MIAMI -- Before the season started, a poll suggested that the Miami Heat were the overwhelming favourite to win the NBA title, collecting a whopping 76 per cent of ballots cast. The voters werent some know-nothings, either. No, this was a polling of NBA general managers. Things seem quite a bit different now. The Heat dont seem like locks for a third straight title anymore. San Antonio and Indiana are top seeds. Brooklyn, Chicago, the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City, Golden State, Houston, Portland and the Heat all figure to have a legitimate chance at being the club to hoist the Larry OBrien Trophy in a couple of months. Usually, the NBA playoffs arent so wide open. Things might change over the next couple of months. "There are 16 teams that have a chance to win it," said Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks, whose team is seeded No. 2 in the West. "If youre in the playoffs, you have a chance. There are some good teams. Any team can beat each other. The West is deep. There are two teams that are really good that didnt make it and had great years. Its definitely open. Theres a lot of good basketball teams that are fighting for the championship." For as good as San Antonio and Indiana were all year -- well, for most of the year in Indianas case, before the Pacers faltered down the stretch -- its never a certainty that the No. 1 seeds reach the NBA Finals. Its happened that way only 11 times in the last 35 years. Then again, the last time that there wasnt either a No. 1 or a No. 2 in the title series was 1978. So while upsets can happen, its not all that common to see bracket craziness -- akin to a No. 7 and No. 8 seeds Connecticut and Kentucky playing for the NCAA title earlier this month -- happening in the same NBA playoff season. "It is going to be tremendous from a fans standpoint, watching," Golden State coach Mark Jackson said. "It going to be a lot of fun." Brooklyns Jason Kidd has plenty of post-season experience as a player. He believes the NBA championship is up for grabs, but also probably knows history doesnt favour his sixth-seeded club. Since 1979, only five teams seeded No. 4 or lower in their conference have reached the finals. But Kidd sees reason for hope. "Its always wide open," said Kidd, the first-year coach of the Nets -- a veteran-laden team put together to win a title this season. "You guys sometimes limit it to just two teams but guys that are playing on a daily basis in the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference feel like theyve got a chance." This year, that doesnt just seem like coach speak. Take the East. On paper, the biggest mismatch is No. 1 Indiana against No. 8 Atlanta, especially because the Hawks are the only sub-.500 team in the playoffs. And just a couple weeks ago, the Hawks went to Indianapolis and absolutely embarrassed the Pacers, running out to a 32-point halftime lead in one of the more stunning games of the entire NBA season. "Theres some good teams out there," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "Every team in the playoffs have given us some problems. Weve been able to win against them as well. But its certainly shaped out to be a good conference." No. 5 Washington won the season series over No. 4 Chicago. Out West, the third-seeded Clippers and sixth-seeded Golden State split four meetings. Memphis ousted Oklahoma City a year ago and those clubs meet in the first round. And San Antonios quest to avenge last years loss in the NBA Finals starts against Dallas -- the last team to beat Miami in a seven-game series, winning the title in 2011. So there are some good stories, and theres intrigue with every first-round series. That doesnt mean everyone in the league thinks itll be a year laden with surprises. Philadelphia coach Brett Brown put it simply -- to him, the game changes in the playoffs, period. "The regular season and the playoffs are like two different sports," Brown said. "If you put me in a bubble and you drag me out in May, I can say this is different than the game Im seeing in November. Its just entirely different." Thats why Brown, a former Spurs assistant, thinks theres a very small number of teams capable of winning it all. "To be the last man standing is so ridiculously hard," Brown said. "People have no idea what its like to play in June." Mark Jackson Jersey . Dillon Brooks scored 26 points on 9-17 shooting for Canada while pulling down six rebounds and picking up six steals. That all changed Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. Lucroy homered leading off the bottom of the ninth to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-3 victory over the Reds. "To be honest with you, the last couple of weeks have been kind of tough for making solid contact, but Im glad to help the team out, contribute and get it done tonight," said Lucroy, who was batting just .200 (21 for 105) in his last 25 games. It was Lucroys second homer of the game and 11th of the season. It was his second career walkoff homer and both were against the Reds. His first was last season off closer Aroldis Chapman and this one was off Sam LeCure. The Brewers had lost five consecutive series before beating the Reds in the first two games of this series. Lucroys average had dipped from .341 on June 18 to .308 entering Tuesday nights game. "Hes frustrated because he thinks hes squaring up some balls," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "Its not like he wasnt locked in, but today obviously he was." Francisco Rodriguez (4-3) pitched the ninth to earn the victory. Cincinnati, which is 0-5 since the All-Star break, brought in LeCure (1-2) to pitch the ninth. His outing lasted just three pitches as Lucroy hit a 1-1 offering for a line drive homer inside the left field foul pole. His first homer of the game was on a 3-2 pitch from starter Homer Bailey in the sixth. The Reds came out of the All-Star break just 1 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central but have quickly fallen 4 1/2 games back. "We just havent executed," Cincinnati manager Bryan Price said. "We havent swung the bats well. We havent gotten a quality start. "And we havent played particularly good defence, weve missed some signs and just havent played terribly well," he said. Milwaukee scored all its runs on solo home runs. Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez hit back-to-back homers in the first inninng on the one-year anniversary of the start of Brauns 65-game suspension for violating Major League Baseballs drug policies.dddddddddddd "Im glad Im not facing them so its nice to have them on our side," Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson said of having Braun, Ramirez and Lucroy in the lineup. Braun hit his 13th homer and Ramirez followed with his 12th homer, and first since June 26. Cincinnati made it 2-1 in the fourth on Jay Bruces RBI double that scored Billy Hamilton from third. Lucroys first homer extended Milwaukees lead to 3-1. Cincinnati tied it 3-3 in the seventh. Nelson hit Ramon Santiago on the foot with a pitch with the bases loaded and pinch-hitter Chris Heisey hit a sacrifice fly off reliever Brandon Kintzler. Billy Hamilton then hit a soft fly ball but Zack Cozart was doubled off second base to end the inning. Kintzler, Zach Duke and Rodriguez pitched three hitless innings of relief for Milwaukee. "Kintzler did a great job, coming in with the bases loaded and no outs," Nelson said. The Reds managed only five hits and Milwaukee had six. Nelson allowed three runs, four hits and a walk and hit three batters while striking out five in his fourth major league start. "He was down in the zone and his slider was good," Roenicke said. Bailey allowed three runs, four hits and two walks while striking out three in his first start since leaving a game against the Chicago Cubs on July 10 due to right knee soreness. NOTES: Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett left the game in the fifth inning due to tightness in his right quad. Roenicke said he was day-to-day. ... Cozart left the game after being hit on the right hand by a pitch from Nelson in the seventh inning. X-rays were negative and the team said he was day-to-day. ... The Reds placed RHP Logan Ondrusek on the 15-day DL retroactive to July 13 and recalled RHP Curtis Partch from Triple-A Louisville. ... MANCHESTER, England -- Louis van Gaal has always said it could get worse before it gets better at Manchester United. He couldnt have thought it would get this bad. Barely two months ago, a jubilant Van Gaal was leaping out of his seat and high-fiving his Netherlands players as he masterminded a 5-1 thrashing of Spain at the World Cup in Brazil. Compare that to the glum, stony-faced figure of Van Gaal who remained glued to his seat during Uniteds humiliating 4-0 loss to third-tier club MK Dons in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday. To the right of him, Ryan Giggs -- a club great who is now Van Gaals assistant coach -- buried his face in his hands. Even though United fielded a virtual reserve team, albeit one containing established internationals like Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa, it was one of the most embarrassing results in the history of Englands biggest club. Following on from a winless start in the Premier League after two games of Van Gaals tenure, serious doubts are already being raised about the Dutchmans use of the 3-5-2 formation and the lack of depth in his squad, especially in defence. "The process needs time," Van Gaal said. "We know exactly what we are doing." Time is something United doesnt have. David Moyes only lasted 10 months last season before being fired, and Van Gaal has already virtually written off Uniteds chances of winning the Premier League in this second straight year of transition at Old Trafford. With no European football this season, the FA Cup remains the only genuine opportunity for silverware -- and it is still only August. The optimism of pre-season, when United won six straight games under Van Gaal, including victories over Real Madrid and Liverpool, has disappeared. Van Gaal is now left hoping a spending spree of about 130 million pounds ($215 million), capped by the club-record signing of Angel Di Maria for $99 million hours before the MK Dons game, pays off. Van Gaal has played three at the back in his time at United but his defenders look uncomfortable in that formation and the wing backs -- so crucial in a 3-5-2 -- utilized by the Dutchman have no experience in that position. Di Marias arrival will not just introduce pace and fresh ideas into the teams midfield, it might also mean United changing tactics. "We shall see if with Di Maria we have to change the system or not," Van Gaal said Tuesday. With less than a week before the transfer window shuts, the loss again highlighted the need for defensive reinforcements. Left back Luke Shaw and left-sided defender Marcos Rojo have joined but United appears to still require an experienced centre back. The defending was awful against MK Dons, with Jonny Evans -- a regular in recent seasons -- to blame for the first goal. Van Gaal didnt escape blame, either, with critics questioning why he felt the need to rest star players like Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Juan Mata when United isnt in Europe this season. Even with a weakened side, how could a club that won the Premier League 15 months ago and was playing in the Champions League final three years ago play so poorly against third-tier opposition that didnt even exist a decade ago? On Twitter, Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko tweeted "Hahahaha" after MK Dons second goal went in. With only the league to concentrate on until January, the loss may boost Uniteds chances of getting back in the top four and returning to the Champions League. For the time being, though, the embarrassment remains acute. "I am not shocked because I know what can happen," Van Gaal said. "A new team is not built in one month. "Its difficult for the fans, I know that, but they have to believe in our philosophy," Van Gaal added. "At the end, they can judge." The Vikings have known all along what they have in Rudolph, a big, field-stretching tight end who can be a difference-maker in the right offence with the right quarterback. So now theyre paying him like one. Rudolph signed a five-year contract extension with the Vikings on Sunday night, a sign that the team has big plans for Rudolph in new offensive co-ordinator Norv Turners offence. The deal, which was first reported by Fox Sports, is worth $36.5 million with $19.4 million guaranteed. Incentives can push the deal to $40 million. "Im very excited to get this extension done with Kyle," Vikings GM Rick Spielman said. "We drafted him, hes done a tremendous job since hes been here. Our whole focus on moving forward in this organization is to draft our players, develop them and keep them here. Hes one of our young guys who is going to be a building block as we go forward in the future and just very excited to get this behind us so we can look forward to seeing him produce over the coming years." Rudolph missed eight games because of a broken left foot last season. He caught 30 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns last year, but was still named to the Pro Bowl and earned MVP honours in the game. His best season came in 2012, when he caught Rudolph was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Vikings know what he can do when he is healthy. In 2012, he 53 passes for 493 yards and nine touchdowns, just the kind of production the Vikings envisioned when they drafted him in 2011. Spielman toook a little bit of a risk when he made that selection because Rudolph missed the final seven games of his last season at Notre Dame after having surgery to repair a severe hamstring injury.ddddddddddddBut Rudolph played 31 of 32 games in his first two seasons in the NFL before missing half the season a year ago with his broken foot. "Ive said all along I wanted to stay in Minnesota," Rudolph said. "I love the fans, the community and, most importantly, Im excited about where this team is going. Im looking forward to the 2014 season and helping this organization reach our ultimate goal." Rudolphs production to this point has been somewhat hindered by the Vikings inability to find a consistent quarterback. Rudolphs friend and draft classmate Christian Ponder has failed to live up to expectations and previous offensive co-ordinator Bill Musgrave struggled at times to get Rudolph involved in the passing game. New head coach Mike Zimmer brought in Turner, considered one of the best offensive co-ordinators of his generation, to run the offence. Turner has had success in the past with great tight ends like Jay Novacek in Dallas and Antonio Gates in San Diego, and he has been impressed early in training camp by Rudolph. The Vikings also hope to have a much more stable quarterback situation with veteran Matt Cassel and rookie Teddy Bridgewater competing for the job. "The thing Kyle has done is get up the field and he is running better than he has been in the past," Turner said. "I think he is understanding that we are trying to change his style of running in terms of routes and he is taking to it. I expect him to be a big part of what we do offensively." ATLANTA -- Top-seeded defending champion John Isner and Jack Sock each rallied Friday in the Atlanta Open to set up an all-America semifinal between the practice partners. Isner beat Marinko Matosevic 7-6 (8), 6-4 in hot conditions, taking advantage of the Australians mistakes to run his Atlanta record to 14-3. Sock later topped Slovakias Lukas Lacko, 7-6 (6), 6-2 after trailing 3-5 in the first set. In the other quarterfinals, Germanys Ben Becker beat Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker 6-4, 6-2, and Israels Dudi Sela topped fourth-seeded Vasek Pospisil of Vancouver 7-5, 1-6, 6-2. Matosevic and Isner both slowed their pace of play in the second set as temperatures were in the high-80s under a blazing sun. On several occasions, Isner bent over between points to gather himself. "I knew he was struggling out there a little bit, and he knew I was struggling a little bit," Isner said after ending the mid-afternoon match with his 17th ace. "A lot of times in situations like that ... even though I appear to be super tired and I am super tired, I can muster up enough energy to pop some big serves in. "The beginning of that second set it felt like someone put us both in an oven." In the first game, Matosevic broke Isners serve. The defending champion would go on to win a modest 70 per cent of his service games, well below the ATP-leading 93 per cent win rate that he carried into the quarterfinals. Matosevics errors made up for gaps in Isners serves. The Australian sent an overhand smash well long to enable Isner to break serve for a 4-3 lead in the first set, and Matosevic double faulted to hand Isner set point in the 10-8 tiebreaker. Back-to-back double faults gave Isner a 4-3 lead in the second set. "It was just as hot as the 43 Celsius day I played in Australia this year if not hotter," Matosevic said. "(Isner) amped it up, and started serving like 10 mph faster in the second ... it was really, really hot out there." The 21-year-old Sock advanced to his second career semifinal. He made his first two weeks ago by beating Isner in straight sets on grass at Newport. In May, Isner beat Sock in straight sets on clay in Nice, France. They wont need scouting reports. "We practice together almost every day now out at Saddlebrook in Tampa, and so Im going to have to go out and use what I know from practice," Sock said. "These (hard) courts suit him pretty well because its high bouncing and when a 7-foot guy is serving down on you its not going to be easy." Sock teamed with Pospisil three weeks ago to win the mens doubles title at Wimbledon, and the pair will played a doubles match Saturday against Becker and his fellow German Frank Moser before singles play begins later in the afternoon. The "new" Winnipeg Jets arent quite so new anymore as they enter their fourth season at the MTS Centre. For general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, that means that the grace period for fans is over and the appetite for a post-season berth has been on the rise. In conversation with TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Cheveldayoff took on the question of how he plans to steer the Jets to their first post-season appearance in their new era. "We need to take a step in a lot of different areas. I think (using) the draft and develop model that we have said we are going to employ, weve got (Jacob) Trouba and (Mark) Scheifele that are products of that. Both had good starts last year to their pro careers and obviously were looking to them to continue to take steps," Cheveldayoff explained. "We were the third-youngest team, I think, in the National Hockey League last year and were probably roughly going to be around that again. When you are that young collectively youre looking to take steps in a lot of areas. Weve made a commitment to a very young leadership core...and we believe that as those guys can grow and keep moving together that that is ultimately going to be our strength down the line." The successful stewardship of those young players is being left to the head coach, Paul Maurice. Claude Noel was dismissed midway through last season when the team struggled to a 19-23-5 record, but the Jets improved to an 18-12-5 finish under Maurice. "Weve made obviously a substantial change in the philosophy of the organization when we hired Paul Maurice. And were really looking forward to having him at the helm from training camp right at the beginning of the season," said Cheveldayoff. "We think weve seen a lot of players that played very well under Paul and were looking forward to having him at the helm right from the start." McKenzie asked Cheveldayoff what kinds of differences Maurice brings to the club. "Hes a very good communicator, hes very direct and I think that hes someone where what you see is what you get each and every day," said Cheveldayoff. "Hes got the experience of all the games hes coached at a very young age. I think that his diverse experiences in the game, both successes and failures, I think hes grown from them. (He has the) ability to relate to a lot of different players, from stars to third- and fourth-liners alike." It all starts in goal for the Jets with incumbent Ondrej Pavelec back in goal for another season. With play that has been hot and cold at best over the past couple of seasons, Cheveldayoff acknowledged that more will be expected from the 27-year-old netminder. "We have to earn the opportunity to get to the playoffs. Certainly with Ondrej, he knows that hes a year older, hes a year more experienced, and hes going to have to look at those challenges that he faced last year and grows from them and grow with them." One of the young stars the Winnipeg will be relying on is Evander Kane. At 23, the Vancouver native is coming off a season in which he had 19 goals and 22 assists in 63 games and Cheveldayoff feels he has put himself in position where he can excel in the new campaign. "He had a healthy summer and trained exceptionally well, whereas last summer he had a couple of things that he had to take care of from an injury standpoint. "There is a certain amount of self-reflection that will have to go on (with all of our players) and hes a young player when it comes to age and hes an experienced player when it comes to years in the league. Were looking for young players to take the next step, him included." Cheveldayoff also weighed in on last weeks news that in an interview, teammate Blake Wheeler called out Kane as a the player who could step up his play and be a leader for the Jets. "From what I understand those comments certainly came in the context of...we all have to (step up). We meaning the players," explained Cheveldayoff. "I think we all have to, and I think...theres a level where (each player) can be better. I dont look at those things as any one individual thing. Its a matter of there being a lot of players on this team that do care, and theyre going to put their hearts on the line." Winnipegs lone addition to their NHL roster over the summer came in the form of centre Mathieu Perreault. Signed to a three-year, $9 million deal as an unrestricted free agent, Perreault should add some offensive punch to the Jets after registering 18 goals and 25 assists last year with the Anaheim Ducks. "Hes a real good complementary player to a lot of different things. Hes good on faceoffs, hes got some good quickness in his short game, and (age-wise) we think theres still room for growth in his game," said Cheveldayoff. "So were excited about having a bit of a different look down the middle with Bryan Little, Mark Scheifele, him, and a healthy Jim Slater...we think well be a much deeper team there." McKenzie asked Cheveldayoff when he knows that a player is ready to take the next step in his play. "The players ultimately decide where things are, they ultimately decide if theyre ready. Certainly coaches, management, youre always having those group discussions to see, but when a player is ready and steps up his game and shows it then you have to take a real serious look at that. "Youre in it for the long term...certainly the excitement (that young players) can generate in the short term can be intoxicating, but I think you really have to look over the 82-game stretch. Can they play? What roles are they going to play? We want them to continue to have the confidence to grow. Like most general managers, Cheveldayoff isnt afraid of going the trade route should he find a potential asset on another roster. "We have certainly explored (the trade) avenue on several different occasions and I think its not a matter of if you want to or dont want to, it depends if the timing is right and you have a willing partner that makes sense. Certainly (trading) is not something that we are averse to. When the time is right something will happen." So what will be the keys to Winnipeg having a successful season? "Knocking down the goals against. All successful teams have to fall into that category - I think thats the first and foremost thing. I think (it would help) if we can push a lot of the other categories into the top 10s of the league, whether its penalty kill or power play or faceoffs," said Cheveldayoff. "I (also) still think theres a lot of growth (to be achieved) for a lot of our players. For the Andrew Ladds and the Dustin Byfugliens, I dont think weve fully reached the pinnacle of where theyre at in their game. Because again, at age 27 or 28 theyre just entering their prime." PETERSBURG, Fla.MINNEAPOLIS - In a season full of turmoil for the New York Knicks, Raymond Felton has dealt with more of it than any other player on the team. He struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness early in the season and was arrested on felony gun charges late last month. With all the trouble swirling around him, the point guard was just 7 for 32 in the five games since his arrest. Felton broke out of his slump with 18 points and Carmelo Anthony scored 33 points to help the Knicks snap a seven-game losing streak with a 118-106 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. "If youre not there mentally, it can really mess you up," said Felton, who made 5 of 8 shots and also had eight assists and four steals. "But Im not one to make excuses. I got a lot going on, but theres a lot of people in this world that are dealing with a lot. I cant make that excuse." Tyson Chandler had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Amare Stoudemire added 18 points and eight boards for the Knicks, who had not won since beating New Orleans on Feb. 19. Knicks coach Mike Woodson had a long chat with Felton on Tuesday, trying to gauge how focused his point guard was on the court with so much to deal with off it. "I wasnt going to take him out of the lineup, but I wanted to make sure that his head was in the right place for playing," Woodson said. "We just have to continue to help him and get him through this process." Kevin Love had 19 points and eight rebounds, but scored just one point in the second half as the Timberwolves returned from a successful West Coast road trip with a thud. Kevin Martin had 12 points on 3-for-10 shooting and the Wolves were 7 for 26 from 3-point range. "We cant give in and say that this is a killer," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said. "I know everybodys going to say that you cant lose to the Knicks, its a killer. ... We just have to go out and beat Detroit (on Friday). We lost this game. Its not going to be perfect. I dont worry about this being really damaging. I worry about the wayy we played.dddddddddddd" Timberwolves coaches had quietly worried about opening a homestand against a team that had been playing so poorly, fearing that the breakout was coming. They were right. The Knicks hit eight of their first 10 field goals Wednesday night and went 5 for 7 from 3-point range to open a 38-24 lead after one quarter. The lead swelled to 17 points in the second quarter as New York chewed up Minnesotas soft interior defence with pick-and-roll lobs to Chandler, a staple of their 54 victories last year. After such a flat first half, Ricky Rubio and the Wolves came alive in the third quarter, methodically carving into the Knicks lead. Nikola Pekovic asserted himself in the paint against Stoudemire and an emboldened Rubio scored nine points in the quarter to cut the deficit to 88-86 going into the fourth. But Pekovic had to sit out most of the fourth quarter because of a minutes restriction placed on him to reduce the wear and tear on a sore ankle that kept him out for most of February. "Its really frustrating because youre trying to win games, youre trying to stay relevant and everything," Adelman said. "He had it going that third quarter. We had it going with him on the floor and I had to take him out. Its just something we have to live with, but its really hard." Anthony and Stoudemire led a 15-2 charge to start the fourth quarter that sealed the victory. Felton hit Tim Hardaway Jr. for a soaring alley-oop moments later for a 107-92 lead. "Even though Im dealing with a lot of stuff off the court, I got a lot to play for right now," Felton said. "I just tried to clear my head tonight, come out and play, and have fun. This is a place where I can come and just be free." NOTES: Pekovic finished with 17 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes and Rubio had 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Wolves. ... New Yorks 66 points were its second-highest first half output of the season. ... J.R. Smith added 14 points, five assists and five rebounds for the Knicks. As free agency officially opened in the NFL on Tuesday at 4 pm et., TSN.ca presents the top ten free-agent busts of all-time in the league. 10. RB Ahman Green – Houston Texans What they saw: Green was coming off a 1,000 yard season, his sixth in seven years, entered free agency in 2007. He showed terrific downhill running ability playing with Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. What They Got: Needing a feature running back, the Texans handed Green a four-year $23 million contract. Plagued by injuries Green had just 260 rushing yards in his first season with the Texans and 294 in his second. He was cut after two seasons with the team. 9. CB Larry Brown – Oakland Raiders What they saw: Brown and the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 in Super Bowl XXX. Brown had two interceptions for the Cowboys and was the first corner ever to be named Super Bowl MVP. What they got: After the Super Bowl, Brown hit the open market and was given a five-year $12 million deal from the Raiders. Brown was released after just two seasons with the team, he had just one interception in 12 games. 8. WR David Boston – San Diego Chargers What they saw: Boston missed half of the 2002 season, but had posted a 1,500 yard season in 2001, which was enough to create a market for him in free-agency. What they got: The Chargers signed Boston to a seven-year $47 million contract in 2003. In his first season with the team he caught 70 balls for 880 yards and seven touchdowns. Despite decent production, Boston clashed with his coaching staff and traded to Miami prior to the 2004 season. He lasted two seasons with the Dolphins. 7. CB/KR Deion Sanders – Washington Redskins What they saw: One of the most exciting players in football. Primetime was a shutdown corner and ace kick/ punt returner with the Cowboys, he even spent time at wide receiver. Sanders Dallas highlight reel is as diverse as any player of you will ever see. What they got: The Redskins signed Sanders to a seven- year $56 million contract with an $8 million signing bonus in 2000. What they got was the 33-year-old version Sanders, who was a shell of his former electric self. Sanders had four interceptions on defence and no return touchdowns in 16 games. After the season Primetime announced his retirement (he would later return in 2004 with the Baltimore Ravens, but thats a different story). 6. QB Neil ODonnell - New York Jets What they saw: ODonnell appeared to be a solid starter with the Steelers, he posted 37-16 record in his previous four seasons and 17 touchdowns to seven interceptions in his final season with the club. What they got: The Jets released Boomer Esiason after the 1995 season and went after their next franchise quarterback, ODonnell. They signed him to a five-year $25 million deal. Things didnt go well for ODonnell in his first season with the Jets, he went 0-6 with four touchdowns and seven interceptions. He went 8-6 the next season with 17 touchdowns and seven picks, however the Jets decided he wasnt their man and cut him after just two years. 5. WR Javon Walker – Oakland Raiders What they saw: A wide receiver, who, when healthy, could create mismatches and get deep for their divisional rival, Denver Broncos. What they got: The Raiders believed signing Walker to a six-year $55 million contract in 2008 was a win-win; he boosted their passing attack and weakened the Broncos. Walker, however didnt add much to their passing attack, appearing in eight games Walker caught 15 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown. Walker appeared in just three games for the Raiders in the following season, catching no passes. He was released after that abysmal season. 4. WR Andre Rison - Cleveland Browns What they saw: Rison entered free agency with 5,633 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns in his last five seasons, he was seen a proven receiver. What they got: “Bad moon” Rison, one of the greatest nicknames of all-time, which, apparently, was worth $17 million over five years. Rison had just 47 catches for 701 yards in first season and the relocating-Browns released the wide receiver. He registered a 1,000 yard season just once in his final five NFL seasons. 3. QB Jake Delhomme - Carolina Panthers/ Cleveland Browns What the Panthers saw: In 2008, Delhomme went 12-4 with 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in the regular season. However, Delhomme had a brutal playoff performance against the Arizona Cardinals, when he threw five interceptions and just one touchdown as the Panthers were blown out 33-13. What they got: Despite not being a free-agent, the Panthers were sure Delhomme was their man and decided to prove it with a five-year $42 million contract with $20 million guaranteed. Unfortunately the Delhomme the Panthers saw in the playoffs was there to stay. He threw eight touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 11 games in 2009, he was benched and eventually released after the season. Browns tenure: Despite seeing Delhommes struggles in Carolina, the Browns decided to sign the quarterback in free agency in 2010. The Browns signed Delhomme to a two-year deal, worth $7 million in his first season. In that season, Delhomme battled an ankle injury and went 2-2 appearing in just five games. He threw two touchdowns and seven interceptions that season. Once the season was finished the Browns cut Delhomme. Between the money owed to him by the Panthers and money made from the Browns, Delhomme made $19.7 million in 2010. 2. S Adam Archuleta – Washington Redskins What they saw: Archuleta was coming off five seasons as a starter with the St. Louis Rams where he had 13 sacks, three interceptions and 304 tackles. What they got: The Redskins signed Archuleta to a seven-year $35 million contract with $10 million guaranteed in 2006, he instantly became the highest paid safety in the NFL. Unfortunately for the Redskins, Archuleta was not the playmaker they had hoped for. He only started seven games for the Redskins in 2006, not because he wasnt healthy, because he benched. After the season the Redskins traded him for a sixth-round pick and, an agreement to restructure his contract. 1. DT Albert Haynesworth – Washington Redskins What they saw: Haynesworth was one of the most dominant defenders in the NFL when he hit free agency in 2009. He was coming off two straight All-Pro team selections and was due for a monster deal. What they got: He got that deal from the Redskins. Haynesworth signed a seven-year $100 million contract with $41 million guaranteed. Haynesworth was a major disappointment in his first season, he registered just four sacks and was suspended by the team for the final month of the season. In 2010, Haynesworth showed up to training camp out of shape played in just eight games, starting none. He registered a career-low 13 tackles and just 2.5 sacks. After the season the Redskins traded Haynesworth to the New England Patriots for a fifth-round pick. The Patriots waived him during the season. After his time with the Redskins, head coach Mike Shannahan said Haynesworth was "lazy, lacking character and lacking passion." Jamaal Wilkes Lakers Jersey . - Anthony Beauvillier had the winning goal in the third period as the Shawinigan Cataractes edged the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 2-1 on Wednesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. LeBron James Lakers Jersey . A wide-eyed 18-year-old visiting North America for only the second time in his young life, Caboclo immediately noticed the "big tower" his new home is best known for. http://www.lakersbasketballshop.com/Mag ... on-Jersey/. But San Diego had even more trouble against right-hander Tanner Roark, who pitched a three-hitter for the first complete game of his career as the Nationals shut out the Padres 4-0. The 27-year-old set down the first 16 batters before San Diego catcher Rene Rivera, an . Kobe Bryant Jersey . Carey Price made 27 saves for Montreal (30-21-6) for his fourth shutout of the year and second in four games. David Desharnais added an empty netter for the Canadiens. Reto Berra stopped 25 shots for Calgary (21-28-7). Magic Johnson Lakers Jersey . The veteran NFL receiver received his work permit and is in Montreal for the start of the Alouettes rookie camp. Johnson even took in the Montreal Canadiens Game 5 win over the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre Tuesday night. The Triple Crown is made up of three races in three states that use three different sets of drug rules. A lawmaker is hoping the buzz from California Chromes run for the Triple Crown might build support for a bill that would place the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency in charge of drug testing at races nationwide. "Its an industry that has, for years, pledged to clean things up," said Rep. Joe Pitts of Pennsylvania, who sponsored the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act. "But things seem to be getting worse, not better." Pitts introduced the bill last spring, and since then, it has been in committees awaiting a chance to be voted on by the full House. Drug use is widely seen as the biggest problem facing horse racing today. A recent investigation by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sparked an investigation into successful trainer Steve Asmussen for allegedly mistreating horses. A 2012 investigation by The New York Times found that 3,800 horses had tested positive for drugs, the large majority of which were for illegal levels of prescription drugs. Some critics of the current rules point out that the 38 states that operate horse tracks work under 38 distinct sets of rules. The National Thoroughbred Racing Association has adopted a set of uniform rules and is pushing state legislatures, racing commissions and other regulatory bodies to pass them in the individual states. So far, 19 states have passed or are considering a rule that would remove all controlled substances except for Lasix -- a diuretic known to improve horses performance -- from racing, and standardize testing for the other drugs. Eight states havve passed another rule that standardizes a penalty structure for trainers who violate drug rules.dddddddddddd Horse racing is highly regulated by the states because it involves gambling. NTRA president Alex Waldrop says he hasnt spent much time analyzing the proposed national legislation, but the reality is that its very hard to pull rulemaking away from the states. "Its a very difficult balance were trying to strike here," Waldrop said. "Its about respecting every states interest and unique concerns. But were constantly pushing for greater uniformity through education and scientific research." The clumsy nature of the issue came into focus shortly after the Preakness, when California Chromes trainer had to get a waiver from track stewards at the Belmont to wear nasal strips, which were allowed in Kentucky and Maryland but not in New York. Though the nasal-strip issue turned out to be minor, USADA CEO Travis Tygart said those sorts of rules differences put horse racing in much the same position Olympic sports were in before they went for more standardized enforcement after the scandals of the 1990s. "The lack of uniformity and strict enforcement has created huge loopholes, where, if youre playing by the rules, youre at a competitive disadvantage," Tygart said. Dionne Benson, who helped write the uniform rules being proposed by the NTRA, said improving anti-doping measures will involve more than one national law. "Its not as easy as enacting a bill," she said. "Its unclear whether that bill would fully regulate in this area, or if wed just be adding another layer."
