OAKLAND, Calif. -- Coco Crisp offered a long list of reasons why Oakland is such a great fit for him for years to come -- his sentiments the same whether or not he had a nice new contract to his name. The Athletics have mutual strong feelings about their do-everything centre fielder and speedy leadoff man, who is staying with the As for an additional two seasons after agreeing Friday to a new contract through 2016 that adds $22.75 million in guaranteed money. "Its nice. I dont think it was weighing on me too much," Crisp said Friday, a day before Oakland holds its FanFest. "Either way, if it happened after the season or before, this is the place I want to be." The deal includes a 2017 option that could become guaranteed, the As said. Crisp was set to attend FanFest on Saturday with the two-time reigning AL West champions, a week ahead of the start of spring training in Phoenix. Crisp has a $7.5 million salary this year under a club option exercised Nov. 1. He will earn $11 million per season in 2015 and 2016, and the 2017 option is for $13 million with a $750,000 buyout. A switch-hitter who gets things going at the top of the lineup with his aggressive baserunning and, more recently, pop in his bat -- Crisp hit a career-high 22 home runs last year. "Im just grateful they put me up there and give me the opportunity to do that. If I hit 22, thatd be awesome. If I hit 23, thatd be better," Crisp said, grinning. "If the best part of the wood gets ahold of the balls, that would be amazing." The 34-year-old Crisp, starting his fifth season with the As, hasnt played more than 136 games in a season since arriving in the Bay Area. He batted .261 with the 22 homers, 66 RBIs and 21 steals last year. Despite the power surge, Crisp has refused to call himself a home run hitter. Yet he does hope to duplicate that production in 2014. "Thats a lot of home runs. Its really impressive for a leadoff hitter," new infielder Nick Punto said. "He might not call himself a home run hitter but he has some pop in the bat." Crisps 2017 option would vest with 550 plate appearances in 2016 or 1,000 plate appearances in 2015-16 combined or 130 games in 2016, or 260 games in 2015-16 combined. In addition, the 260 combined games is with no fewer than 110 played in 2016 and he cant finish 2016 season on the disabled list. New Oakland closer Jim Johnson is happy to no longer have to face Crisp. "Hes a pain," Johnson said. "He fights off good pitches. Hes a guy you think you have a plan and your plan goes to crap." Crisps current contract allows him the use of a ballpark suite for six games per year -- excluding the Yankees, Red Sox and Giants -- and the number increases to eight for 2015-17. Former Tigers manager Jim Leyland said several times that containing Crisp was the biggest key for Detroit to beat the As in the division series for the second straight season. Crisp is a career .278 hitter in 30 post-season games for Boston and Oakland. Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes, who said Friday he hopes for an extension to stay with the As beyond his initial $36 million, four-year deal from February 2012, realizes how much it means to be playing alongside Crisp for the near future. "I dont know if Im going to be the next to get an extension, but he is the key for this team," Cespedes said. "I want to play in Oakland beyond my four years. I thank them for giving me the opportunity to play in the big leagues. I dont forget that." The Coliseum field is still dirt piles in preparation for a Monster Trucks event at the Coliseum later this month, then it will be quickly converted and re-turfed for baseball. LOUIS -- Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks believe they sent a message to the rest of the NHL over the past week. "We feel like were an elite team," Getzlaf said. "And now were starting to show it." Getzlaf sparked an early three-goal outburst with his 16th of the season and rookie Frederik Andersen made 26 saves to lead the Ducks to a 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. Anaheim won its second in a row, after beating defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago 3-2 in a shootout Friday. The Ducks 45 points are tied for the most in the league with Chicago. St. Louis lost for the third time in four games and fell to 12-2-2 at home. Corey Perry, Andrew Cogliano, Nick Bonino and Mark Fistric also scored for the Ducks, who had not won in regulation in their previous eight trips to St. Louis. Anaheim completed a four-game run against the Western Conference elite with six points. The Ducks lost in overtime to San Jose and Los Angeles. "This stretch has been big for us," Getzlaf said. "Were playing with a lot of confidence and we believe we can fit in with the best teams in the league." Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau agreed. "What weve proved at this stage of the year is that we can play with the big boys and compete with them," he said. "Were going to leave (here) feeling good about ourselves." Chicago, St. Louis, San Jose and Los Angeles are a combined 76-24-17. Getzlaf, who added an assist, has a point in his last 13 games. He has 10 goals and 10 assists during that span. Getzlaf missed three games in November with an injury and has a point in his teams past 11 games, the longest current run in the NHL. Andersen, who won his first six starts, improved to 8-1 with his second successive victory. He leads all rookie goalies in wins. Jaden Schwartz and Patrik Berglund scored third-period goals for St. Louis, which had won five straight home games. Anaheim scored threee times in the opening 7:29 to chase Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak, who faced eight shots.dddddddddddd Cogliano got it started by banking in a shot off the skate of Barret Jackman after just 70 seconds. Perry scored his team-high 18th on the power play at 5:36. Getzlaf capped the early blitz with a drive from the faceoff circle. "We knew they would make a big push and we had to meet it head on," Getzlaf said. "We did a good job of doing that." Andersen said the three early goals made his job a lot easier. "But you still have to force yourself to stay sharp," he said. "If we can score three goals that quick, they can, too. They fired a lot of shots, but most of the time I was able to see the puck through traffic." Halak was pulled for the third time this season. "I need to look at myself and everybody else needs to probably find the answers," Halak said. "We need to play for 60 minutes, not only for 20." Bonino converted at 17:16 of the second period to push the lead to 4-0. Andersen stopped the first 20 shots he faced and helped kill off 4-minute power plays in each of the first two periods. The Blues have struggled in the first period of late, falling behind San Jose 4-0 and Los Angeles 2-0 in the past four games. "Were obviously not getting ready to play," Berglund said. "Its hard to get back against a good team like Anaheim." NOTES: Anaheim RW Teemu Selanne was a healthy scratch after playing Friday in Chicago. The 43-year-old has played on back-to-back nights only once this season. ... St. Louis C Derek Roy is one assist shy of 300 for his career. ... The Blues are an NHL-best 57-16-8 at home since the beginning of the 2011-2012 season. ... Anaheim G Jonas Hiller was given the night off after facing 76 shots and 12 shootout attempts in the previous two games. ... St. Louis has scored at least two goals in all 16 home games this season. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- A few smooth minutes on the field left Andy Dalton in a good mood. Dalton completed his only pass and led the Bengals to a touchdown in his only drive -- one that took four minutes to finish -- and the Cincinnati Bengals ended the preseason with a 27-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night. The third-year quarterback wanted a crisp drive to finish the preseason. He got it. "We did what we wanted to do," Dalton said of the seven-play drive. "We drove down and scored -- had some good runs mixed in there and some conversions on passes. We did what we wanted the first offence to do." Cincinnati (3-1) has a few decisions left before starting the season, none bigger than picking Daltons backup. Josh Johnson followed Dalton for the second straight game and had a solid showing. He led the Bengals to a touchdown and a field goal in three possessions before halftime. Johnson scrambled twice for 38 yards on a touchdown drive that culminated in his 3-yard pass to Marvin Jones, showing his main advantage over John Skelton in the competition for the backup job. Overall, Johnson was 7 of 13 for 67 yards with three sacks. "I feel good," Johnson said. "I feel Ive improved weekly on everything Ive been asked to do and weve been able to get results on the field. Weve been able to put scoring drives together, finish drives. "But you never know. All you can do is put your best foot forward." Skelton, who was behind from the start of the competition to replace Bruce Gradkowski because hed never run a West Coast offence, played the second half and was 6 of 10 for 99 yards with one touchdown drive. The Bengals played most of their starters on offence and defence for one series only. Daltons brief appearance ended in Giovani Bernards 1-yard touchdown run. The Colts (2-2) rested most of their starters, including quarterback Andrew Luck. He and Dalton joked with each other on the field before the game. "One of the goals is to come out as healthy as you can and we did," coach Chuck Pagano said. Matt Hasselbeck started for Indianapolis and led a 12-play drive against most of the Bengals starters. Adam Vinatieri kicked a 43-yard field goal to complete it. Hasselbeck played two series and went 5 of 9 for 49 yards. Vinatieri also was wide left on a 52-yard attempt. Indianapolis starting defence hadnt allowed a touchdown the past two games. With the play-it-safe approach on Thursday, the results were less pleasing. "We didnt play very well at all," linebacker Pat Angerer said. "But well play better." The Bengals starters moved the ball easily against a Colts defence of mostly backups during their one series on the field. All-Pro receiver A.J. Green, who missed the first three weeks of camp with a bruised knee, played the series and drew an interference penalty from Josh Gordy in the end zone, setting up Giovani Bernards 1-yard run. Receiver Brandon Tate made more of an impact as a kick returner. Tates 51-yard kickoff return set up the touchdown. Tate also had a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown in the previous preseason game at Dallas. Both teams had reserves get hurt. Colts inside linebacker Kavell Conner and offensive tackle Emmett Cleary were treated for ankle injuries but returned. Receiver David Reed left with a concussion. Cornerback Daxton Swanson pulled a hamstring and didnt return. Bengals linebacker Emmanuel Lamur dislocated his right shoulder in the first quarter and was taken off the field on a cart. Guard Mike Pollak suffered a knee injury, but coach Marvin Lewis said it wasnt serious. TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays have sent outfielder Kevin Pillar back to the minors, one day after the rookie threw his bat down the dugout steps when he was pulled for a pinch hitter. The Blue Jays selected outfielder Brad Glenn from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. Pillar was hitting .225 with no home runs and two RBIs, and was demoted to Triple-A. Pillar tossed his bat down the steps leading from the dugout to the clubhouse after Anthony Gose batted for him in the eighth inning Tuesday night against the Yankees. Pillar then walked the length of the dugout and took off his batting gloves while having a brief and civil conversation with manager John Gibbons. On Wednesday, Gibbons said Glenn was promoted to increase offensive production. But Gibbons acknowledged that Pillars antics "didnt help him at all." "This is a team game," Gibbons said. BUDAPEST, Hungary - Eve-Audrey Picard had a three-point game and Shea Tiley made 22 saves as Canada shut out Finland 7-0 on Monday at the under-18 womens world hockey championship. Picard had a goal and two assists to help Canada improve to 2-0 at the tournament. Seven different players scored for the two-time defending champions. "Today all four lines played excellent," said head coach Laura Schuler. "In the past weve had goals coming from one or two lines and today it was all four really contributing. So I was really proud of that." Sarah Potomak opened the scoring at 5:03 on the power play and Stephanie Lalancette made it a two-goal game at 10:53. Canada piled on in the second period as Picard, Victoria Bach, Jessica Healey, Rebecca Leslie and Alexandra Labelle padded the lead. Finnish netminder Anni Keisala stopped 52 of 59 shots. Canada opened the tournament with a 7-1 rout of Japan. Canada has an off-day before resuming preliminary-round action Wednesday against the Czech Republic. "I think weve done really well," said captain Lauren Wildfang. "Weve worked really hard to get where we are and I think that just needs to continue." Will Power won the season finale — a year after he crashed in this race to blow his own title chances — to salvage the night for Penske Racing. But it was Dixon and Chip Ganassi celebrating on the big stage as the New Zealander won his third series title, and Target Chip Ganassi claimed its 10th championship since 1990. Dixon wrapped it up with a fifth-place finish. He was the final car on the lead lap, and beat Helio Castroneves by 27 points for the title. "When youve won a couple, they are all very different," Dixon said about his three titles. "This year has been far different in that midyear we didnt think we had a shot at the championship." It wasnt incident-free. Dixon, also the series champion in 2003 and 2008, nearly overheated late in the race. "We were freaking out," admitted team manager Mike Hull. Penske has now been denied in the season finale six times since Sam Hornish won the organization its last IndyCar championship in 2006. Ganassi has won five championships in that span. "I feel for Helio," Dixon said. "He ran a strong year. Hes a hell of a competitor." This one slipped away in spectacular fashion as Castroneves led the points after 14 races this season and took a 49-point lead over Dixon into the Houston doubleheader two weeks ago. But a gearbox issue in the first race, which Dixon won, saw his lead sliced to just eight points. Then in the second race, Castroneves drove over a bump in the track to cause a catastrophic failure to his gearbox. Dixon finished second and left Houston with a 25-point lead. "One weekend for us, unfortunately for us cost us a lot of points," Castroneves said. "We did everything we could to avoid any kind of mechanical failure and the only time all season we had any kind of mechanical failure, thats what cost us the season. This is the tough part of racing." It backed Castroneves into a position of almost certainly needing to win Saturday nights finale to salvage the title. But with the big boss on his pit stand calling the race — Penske told The Associated Press before Houston hed call the final three races of the season and "if theres any mistakes, any issues, you can blame it on me" — Penske made a mistake. He called Castroneves to pit lane before the pits were open during a late caution, and Castroneves was penalized by IndyCar. He went from fourth to eighth after the drive-thru penalty. "Im so sorry," Penske radioed. Castroneves downplayed the mistake. "That was just a blip on the radar," he said. Instead, contact later with Dixon teammate Charlie Kimball broke Castroneves front wing. The stop to replace it dropped him a lap down, and Castroneves was the first car a lap down with his sixth-place finish. "I feell for Helio," said Dixon.dddddddddddd "He ran a strong year. Hes a hell of a competitor." For Power, who was racing as much to help Castroneves win the title as he was for himself, ended the night with what he called "the most satisfying win of my life." Power had gone into the finale three years in a row with the championship on the line, but hit a seam in the speedway last year and crashed. Hes struggled most of this year and didnt pick up his first win of the year until Sonoma in August. He then added another victory two weeks ago at Houston, and Saturday nights win was his second career victory on an oval. "I wanted to do it so badly all year," Power said. "I knew in the early ovals, I just was kind of conservative because I just wanted to finish every lap. And this time Im going for it." Only nine cars were running at the end, and a six-car accident just past the halfway mark sent Justin Wilson to a local hospital for evaluation. IndyCar medical director Dr. Michael Olinger said Wilson suffered non-operable fractures to his pelvis and a small pulmonary contusion. The accident began when Wilsons car wiggled as his rear tire was caught in a seam on the track. The Brit tried to save it as his car began to spin toward the wall, but as he lost control, Tristan Vautier drove directly into the side of Wilsons car. "I didnt see him before I hit him. There was a big cloud of smoke. Didnt see what was happening," Vautier said. It took the safety team several minutes to get Wilson out of his car. He was placed on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The accident also collected Josef Newgarden, who in trying to avoid Wilson drove into Oriol Servia. James Jakes was also knocked out of the race, and in-car cameras showed a huge piece of debris sailing over his head. "We were on the outside and in the smoke you lose perception of everything," Jakes said. "We lost our vision and then I got hit with the debris. Tough after starting fifth." Simona de Silvestros car suffered damage, but she was able to continue. Before that, Carlos Munoz was impressive driving as the emergency replacement for E.J. Viso, who didnt make the trip to Fontana. Andretti Autosport said Viso was ill, although reports out of Venezuela indicated Viso could be affected by an investigation into the funding of motorsports drivers in that country. So Munoz was given Visos car to drive Saturday night, hours after winning the Indy Lights race for the second consecutive year. Munoz, who finished second in the Indianapolis 500 earlier this year, drove as high as second and was mixing it up with the leaders. But he was aggressive — too aggressive for Castroneves team owners liking — and Penske urged Castroneves to get away from Munoz. It proved to be the correct advice when Munoz spun on Lap 101, ending his night. "You were smart there. He was in totally over his head," Penske radioed Castroneves. Skip Brad Jacobs and Team Canada suffered a surprise loss on the first day of curling competition in Sochi, losing 5-4 to Switzerland on Monday Canadas second draw started off slow, with four straight blank ends. But the Swiss, skipped by Sven Michel, stole three in the fifth to take control. Michel missed a crucial shot in the sixth, allowing Jacobs to score two in response. But the teams swapped singles in the following ends, leaving Canada with a 1-1 record. Earlier Monday, the Jacobs rink opened the competition with a win, 11-8 over Germany. In other results from session 2 of the round robin, Sweden beat Great Britain 8-4, Norway defeated the U.S. 7-4 and Denmark topped Russia 10-9. Canadas next test comes on Tuesday with a draw against the undefeated Swedes. Josh Jooris and Derek Smith also scored for Abbotsford (34-21-7). Joacim Eriksson made 32 stops for the visiting Comets (26-27-7), while Alex Grenier scored their only goal. Roy had struggled of late, being pulled in three of his last five starts, and allowing 18 goals in that stretch. The Heat opened the scoring on the power play at 12:25, with Jooris redirecting Max Reinharts centring feed on his backhand. Abbotsford dominated the second period, but Eriksson did his best to keep the Comets in the game. Turner Elson drove past a defender while shorthanded midway through the frame, and cut to the front of the net, but Eriksson stayed with him and shut the five-hole in time to keep the Comets within a goal. Eriksson reached across to rob Reinhart on the power play with less than seven minutes to go in the second. The Comets gooaltender robbed Brett Olson at the doorstep on another power play before finally succumbing to the Heat pressure in the final seconds.dddddddddddd. Eriksson kicked out Corey Lockes rebound attempt into the slot, but Connolly stepped into a slap shot that beat the netminders outstretched arm with just 12 seconds to go in the period. Roy was largely untested through two periods but made a few big saves in the final frame. David Marshall redirected Alex Friesens shot, but Roy kicked it away four minutes into the third. Then, on a penalty kill, Roy was solid again, including a big save off Colin Stuart in the slot. The Comets finally got to the 22-year-old netminder at 8:33. Roy stoned Grenier on a backdoor one-timer but the Utica right winger chipped it over the goalie, backing it off a Heat player and in, for his 16th of the year. The Comets had a short power play in the final two minutes but couldnt complete the comeback. Smith added an empty netter with 28 seconds to play. Both teams finished 1 for 7 with the man advantage. Bellator MMA was slated to make history this Saturday night with their inaugural pay-per view event. But an injury to headliner Tito Ortiz has forced the California based promotion to offer this card free on TV. With three title fights and a number of UFC veterans littered throughout the card, this remains the biggest event in Bellators history. Once again Jordan Cieciwa (@FitCityJordan) and I (@LynchOnSports) go head to head in our picks for this weekends event. Last weekend my #TeamLynch beat out #TeamJC 7-4 and Im looking to carry that momentum in our first Bellator preview. Let us know which side youre on! Either hashtag #TeamLynch or #TeamJC on Twitter. Also feel free to leave your opinions in the comment section below. Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez (Lightweight Championship) James Lynch TSN.ca (@LynchOnSports) In one of the most anticipated rematches in MMA history, undefeated champion Chandler defends his title for the third time against former lightweight champ Alvarez. If you havent watched their first encounter, look up Bellator 58: Chandler vs. Alvarez on YouTube and youll witness one of the greatest fights in MMA history. When Chandler upset Alvarez in their first fight back in November 2011 to capture the title, he immediately became the promotions poster boy. The DREAM veteran Alvarez was pushed in the opposite direction and was told to re-enter an upcoming lightweight tournament in order to earn a rematch. Alvarez opted to compete in two super-fights instead (against Shinya Aoki and Patricky Freire) and emerged victories on both accounts. His plan was to wait until the conclusion of his contract and move on elsewhere. He had aspirations to fight in the UFC and instead of that storybook ending; he endured one of the worst legal contract battles in the sport. The 29-year old would be forced to sit out a year and in the end remained with the promotion. Thanks to a newly formed rematch clause, fans and pundits instead get to witness this epic encounter Saturday night. So who wins the fight? Despite Chandler getting the best of his foe at Bellator 58, the matchup as a whole was extremely competitive. Both fighters have knockout power and exceptional wrestling. The Alliance MMA fighter has the edge on the mat, but with 27-fights on his resume Alvarez has the clear advantage in experience. Since his win over the Blackzillians member, the 12-0 fighter has made leaps and bounds in his career. Hes finished all of his opponents since then, including lightweight tournament winner David Rickels and current welterweight finalist Rick Hawn. In addition, the former NCAA Division 1 Wrestler has the security with the promotion (signing a disclosed long-term contract) and has been more active fighting. All these factors dont bode well for Alvarez, especially with the long layoff. Expect the company man Chandler to come out with the same intensity in their first fight and land the better power shots. Hell catch the durable Alvarez sometime in the third round and slip in the submission for his 13th career victory. Chandler via third round submission Jordan Cieciwa – TSN 1290 Host This promises to be one of the best fights on paper in any fight organization this year. The UFC got lucky that Sanchez vs. Melendez was an epic battle; this rematch looks to be something special. If you have not been following these two competitors you have been missing something. Alvarez vs. Chandler in Bellator 58 was one of those fights that needs to be watched to be believed. Both fighters have the talent to go to the top of their division in any league. Alvarez has proved his talent with wins over Shinya Aoki (Watch his career highlights) and Patricky Freire. Both wins were first round KOs. At 9-1 in his last 10 fights (Chandler was the loss) Alvarez has finished eight of those fights. Thats impressive. At 24-3, its no wonder the UFC wanted him. That legal battle left Alvarez hungry and he better be for this fight. Across the cage is the man who took his title. Chandler has competed in half the fights, but at 12-0 is no rookie. Chandler has finished his last four fights. The last time these two met, Chandler sunk in a rear naked choke in the championship rounds. Now, I see redemption on the horizon for Alvarez. With no competition he has been in the gym with the Blackzillians, perfecting his technique. It has been almost exactly one year since Alvarez had a fight. I expect him to be healthy, and razor sharp. Alvarez via fourth round KO Pat Curran vs. Daniel Straus (Featherweight Championship) Lynch 26-year old featherweight champion Curran faces off with Season 6 tournament winner Strauss as part of three rematches on this main card. Their first encounter came back in 2009 for the XFO promotion, where Curran won via knockout in the second round. Both fighters have evolved their games since then and currently between the two of them, ride an 11-fight unbeaten streak. The Team Curran fighter has looked spectacular since dropping back to featherweight in 2011 and has dispatched the likes of Marlon Sandro, Joe Warren and Patricio Freire. Looking for his seventh straight win, “Paddy Mike” is in for a competitive matchup against the Team Vision product Straus. The 29-year old has had quite the battle both inside and outside of the cage, with injuries and legal trouble back in March which has delayed this fight from happening. Now ready and with the opportunity to compete on the promotions biggest event to date, Straus hopes his wrestling will be enough to outpoint the current champ. Physically both fighters are similar with Curran having a slight height and reach advantage. Both have over 20-fights on their resume, but Curran has a win over Patricio Freire, a man who handed Straus his last loss. While no doubt the Ohio native is durable, Curran is better in every aspect of this fight. Should the 2011 featherweight summer series winner stick to his game plan, this is his fight to lose. Expect Curran to overwhelm Straus as the fight goes on, and catch him late in the fight, for his 20th career victory. Curran via fourth round knockout JC If you listen to the "Weigh In" on TSN 1290 where Lynch and I sound off with our friend and Co-Host Marvyn Timog, youll know about our respect for the very underrated Pat Curran. He has heavy hands and a ton of talent. Hes the champ for a reason; hes really good at fist fighting. Curran has strung together six wins, while Daniel Straus is on his own five fight win streak. This is a rematch as it was a loss for Straus back in 2009 for the XFO organization. That, coupled with some "out of the ring" legal issues, Im not sure we get to see Straus in the perfect head space for a fight with someone who has been getting better and better as time passes. Pat Curran has looked as sharp as ever in his last six fights. His hands are heavy, and his talent to hit the button is unquestioned. Win number 20 for Pat Curran will come with a booming KO. Watch this one; its going to be the fight your friends talk about. Curran via third round knockout Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal vs. Emanuel Newton (Interim Light Heavyweight Championship) Lynch Another heated rematch fills out the main card, this time in the light heavyweight division as former MFC champion Newton battles former Strikeforce champion Lawal. This past February at Bellator 90, we saw one of the biggest upsets in the promotions history Newton landed a first round, spinning back-fist knockout on Lawal to advance to the Season 8 tournament final. With “King Mo” winning this past summers light heavyweight tournament and current Bellator 205lb Attila Vegh apparently sidelined due to injury, this rematch was made possible. Since the loss, the always charismatic Lawal is on a two-fight win streak, finishing both Seth Petruzelli and Jacob Noe. If the 2007 Pan American gold medalist wants to emerge victorious, hell need to neutralize the standup of the “Hardcore Kid” and not become over confident like he was in their first fight. For Newton, hell need to unload on his standup and try to turn this into a dogfight. A glaring difference between these two fighters is experience, with Newton having 29-fights on his resume compared to Lawals 14. With whats at stake for the 32-year old, expect Lawal to play it safe and try to outwrestle his opponent on route to a unanimous decision victory. Lawal via unanimous decision JC I had the pleasure of watching King Mo train right after he was cleared from an ACL repair. That same ACL that had him sidelined for a long time, thanks to a subsequent infection. I got to see King Mo up at Reign MMA working with a ton of top talent. No doubt, he is a talented wrestler. The Kings striking is good, but its not great. Enter the Interim Champ, Emanuel Newton. He is much sharper in the standup world. Newton is still training with Reign MMA, and his sparring days are over at Kings MMA. Rafael Cordero turns out top prospects at Kings MMA, and thats exactly why Newton has the belt right now. The last go between these two had Newton landing a back fist for the KO. I dont think this one will end that fast, but I do expect the striking to be the factor in this that gets the win. I expect Newton to confuse Lawal, and stay on the outside and avoid takedowns. You have to beat the champion, if this goes to decision, it will stay with Newton Newton via unanimous decision. Joe Riggs vs. Mike Bronzoulis (Fight Master Final) Lynch In a matchup that was slated to take place back at Bellator 98 in September, Team Jackson fighter Riggs returns from injury to battle Team Couture fighter Bronzoulis. The 31-year old Riggs had a well-documented fall from grace, from fighting for the UFC welterweight title against Matt Hughes in 2005 to battling an opiate addiction which lead to him bouncing around from promotion to promotion. A win for the Strikeforce veteran on Saturday would not only earn him a spot in the upcoming welterweight tournament, but also resurgence in his career. Heading into this bout, “Diesel” is riding five-fight win streak and hopes to add “Fight Master Champion” to his resume. Meanwhile the former Legacy FC welterweight champion Bronzoulis looked dominant during his tenure on the Fight Master reality series, defeating Chris Lozano and Eric Bradley to earn his spot in the final. Riggs has a significant advantage in experience, with 54 fights in his career (compared to Bronzoulis 21) and has fought the likes of Matt Hughes, Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle and Phil Baroni. The 34-year old “Greek” has finished 12 of his 15 opponents, and will no doubt make this a competitive matchup. Because these fighters are on the biggest card in Bellator history and with Riggs having a vast amount of experience, this should be his fight to lose. Expect The MMA Lab fighter to play it smart throughout the three round affairs and earn a unanimous decision victory. Riggs via unanimous decision JC Who hasnt Joe Riggs fought? With 39 wins, this guy has seen it all. At 31 years-old, Riggs has a lot of time left on the clock. That clock has had some rough times on it. Riggs has lost a lot of key fights, had some personal problems and has seen time in almost every single organization out there. He is a fighter who needs to start winning again. As he takes to the cage, his opponent will be very ready. Mike Bronzoulis has put together two wins in a row, and is making his debut for Bellator. That means he is going to do everything he can to impress. Neither of these fighters possesses a distinct advantage in striking or wrestling. This may be one of those typical brawl matches, Riggs is known for mixing it up and putting on a good show. I think the fans are in for a great fight to start the night of Rematches up. Riggs via unanimous decision Mike Richman vs. Akop Stepanyan Lynch A pair of exciting featherweights clash to open up the main card as former Marine Richman battles Taekwondo black belt Stepanyan. Richman is coming off a hard fought loss to Frodo Khasbulaev at Bellator 95 in the Season 8 featherweight tournament final. Prior to the loss, “The Marine” was on a 6-1 run, including wins over Canadian Chris Horodecki and Alexandre Bezerra. Looking to earn his spot in the upcoming featherweight tournament, the 28-year old understands the importance of a win over his Russian- Armenian foe. The 27-year old Stepanyan also had a disappointing outing in his last fight, in an upset loss to Justin Wilcox at Bellator 99. Losing of three of his last four contests, should he not come out on top Saturday, hell likely be released from the promotion. Expect that to happen, with Richman using his superior standup and wrestling over the course of three rounds to earn the decision nod. Richman via unanimous decision JC As usual Im going against Lynch and picking Stepanyan to win the fight. He hasnt looked impressive since signing with Bellator, but that will change on Saturday as hes going to show the form that lead him to an impressive 12-3 record while he was competing in his native Russia. Richman was knocked out in his last fight and I expect that to happen again here. Stepanyan via second round knockout Undercard Picks: Lynch: Etim, Souza, Guymon, Halsey, Juarez, J.Smith, Luciano JC: Etim, Souza, Guymon, Halsey, Williams, J.Smith, Camacho Also be sure to tune into the “Weigh-In” on TSN Radio 1290 Winnipeg every Saturday as myself, Jordan and “Big Marv” Timog go toe to toe discussing the hottest topics in MMA. Sergio Romo Jersey . - Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte sees the commitment to the handoff and cant help but come away impressed. Trevor Plouffe Jersey . The three Calgary natives will compete after the sport was skipped by the Vancouver Games in 2010 but later included on the program for Sochi, Russia. The fight to include womens ski jumping prior to Vancouver went to the courts only to have the Supreme Court of Canada rule against the athletes appeal in 2009. http://www.authenticbaseshoprays.com/Wi ... os-Jersey/. -- The NFL Players Association wants to determine if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers leaked information about quarterback Josh Freeman being in the NFLs substance abuse program. Steven Souza Jersey . The closer wasnt available. The road trip, a disaster to that point. Steve Cishek Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. Phil Jackson won NBA titles as a player and a coach. Hell now try winning as an executive. And this quest will take him back to where his career began. Jackson has agreed to run the New York Knicks front office and will be formally introduced by the team at a news conference at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday morning, a person familiar with the negotiations between the 11-time champion coach and the franchise told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Knicks would only confirm that a "major announcement" involving team executives was scheduled. Jackson also did not make any immediate public comment, but the move had been expected for several days -- and was practically confirmed earlier this week by Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, who said he had heard the Hall of Fame coach was "coming on board." Jackson had been courted by clubs before, and fans in Los Angeles clamoured for him to return to coaching not long after he left the Lakers after the 2010-11 season. Hes largely shunned limelight during this three-year break from work, during which he did things such as working on his health -- arthritis pain hampered him toward the end of his coaching career -- and released a book chronicling his basketball life. Denver coach Brian Shaw, who played for Jackson and has been an assistant under him as well, said Friday that he would not be surprised to see one of his mentors take on the challenge of rebuilding the Knicks. "I think hes a basketball lifer, a basketball junkie," Shaw said in Miami, where the Nuggets were playing the Heat. "I think that with all the success that hes had, what hes learned and his passion for the game, I think it gets boring when you do something like hes done all his life and all of a sudden youre kind of out of the mix. If he does do it, hed be excited about the challenge of attacking the game from a different position." Jackson played his first 10 NBA seasons with the Knicks -- he was there for 11 actually, missing the 1969-70 championship season because of injury. Jackson was a key part of the 1972-73 team that wonn the NBA title, topping the Lakers.dddddddddddd New York hasnt won a championship since. Jackson has won 11 since, six with the Chicago Bulls and five more with the Lakers. Shaw has spoken with Jackson regularly during the season, saying that his former coach will sometimes call or text to ask if a play the Nuggets run was one that they used together during their triangle-offence days. But Shaw -- who will likely be mentioned as a potential coaching candidate in New York if the Knicks decide to part ways with Mike Woodson -- has kept his distance from Jackson during this will-he-or-wont-he process. "Ive kind of left him alone during this period of time because I know its a lot going on and certainly people are hitting him from every different direction," Shaw said. Odds are, that wont change anytime soon. Jacksons arrival in New York will likely usher in a new era for the Knicks, who may miss the playoffs this season after winning 54 games a year ago. Even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said earlier this week that he wanted to see Jackson back in the game, saying "the league needs him." Apparently, the Knicks felt they needed him as well. New York could lose Anthony this summer through free agency, will likely look to upgrade their roster in several other areas, and Jackson will have to tackle all those issues -- and plenty of others -- even though the Knicks have spent about as freely as any team in recent years. And a playoff trip this year is hardly a certainty, with the Knicks currently on the outside of the post-season picture. With the Bulls, he had Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. With the Lakers, he had Shaquille ONeal and Kobe Bryant. With the Knicks, hell have more questions than answers, at least in the beginning of his first foray into life as an executive. Theres also the issue of how much power hell actually have working for Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan. Since the start of the 2004-05 season, the Knicks have gone through six head coaches and won a total of seven playoff games. Starting Tuesday, itll apparently be Jacksons job to change all that. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Broncos coach John Fox says the only change he plans to make following open-heart surgery is his vantage point. "My goal and dream is to be there (on the sideline) before the conclusion of the season," Fox told Denver media during a conference call Tuesday from his Charlotte, N.C., home where hes convalescing from surgery to fix a genetic heart defect. Fox said he was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, one that has only two leaflets instead of the usual three. The aortic valve regulates blood flow from the heart into the aorta, the major blood vessel that brings blood into the body. He said it was discovered in 1997 when a murmur showed up in a physical while he was the Giants defensive co-ordinator. He was told earlier this year that surgery was necessary, but he had hoped to delay the operation until after the Super Bowl. That changed when he almost passed out Nov. 2 while golfing in Charlotte, two days after hed visited his cardiologist in Raleigh. Less than 48 hours later, he had surgery and was released from the hospital Friday. Hell soon begin his cardio rehab in North Carolina and wont be back in Denver until hes strong enough to fly back. Fox said after he became dizzy on the golf course, he chipped within 2 feet for par, then lay down on the grass before being taken to a hospital where a CT scan showed "my valve was almost completely closed. I was receiving very little blood to my body." Fox seemed to bristle when asked if any lifestyle changes were in the offing. "Im very, very healthy," he said, noting that normal hospital stays following this type of surgery is five to seven days and "I was out in four. So, this isnt due to poor lifestyle, not being healthy, too much stress, not enough stress. This is basically something I was born with that I needed fixed. I think the quick recovery speaks to what great shape Im in. "This is really not a lifestyle problem. Its just, lets call it a birth defect. Im not really sure what you call it. But I just came up a little short in that department." Fox said hed have needed this operation even if he werent an NFL coach. "Sure, there is some pressure and stress involved in coaching, but I think a lot of people out there in Denver, in this country, really around the globe, have very pressure-packed jobs. "I think our military comes to mind maybe as one of those that I dont think coaching compares to," Fox said. "So, it wasnt the pressure of coaching or any kind of thing." Foxs voice sounded good during his 16-minute call, he also displayed his usual sense of humour, quick wit and charisma that players and coaches alike say they miss around team headquarters. Fox said he was relaxing Tuesday and "just getting around to seeing the San Diego game from Sunday." Thats the coaches copy. He watched the broadcast live, although he admitted there were times he had to stop watching lest his blood pressure skyrocket. One of those moments surely was when Peyton Manning came up limping after Corey Liuget dived at his ankles in the closing minutes of Denvers 28-20 win. The Broncos (8-1) asked the league to look at the hit, but the NFL determined it was a clean tackle. Fox declined to confirm it was he who raised the issue with the NFL: "Well, were not really allowed to discuss anything to do with officiating. I can say that I did communicate with somebody at the league office," Fox said. Aside from his concern over his quarterback, Fox said he was feeling good and thanked everyone for their well wishes and the Broncos for allowing him "this time to get my health back, and that process is going very well. Its been helped by everybody there in Denver, and probably first and foremost my wife, Robin." Fox and interim head coach Jack Del Rio speak every day by phone and Fox said hes texted and talked with some of his players, too. Famous for saying every injured player is "day to day," Fox was just as coy about the timeline for his own recovery. "I can just tell you that Im working very hard to get better and I feel like my doctors are pleased that Ive improved every day," he said. "So things are going great. I like where Im at right now and well see where that leaves us." Donte Moncrief Jersey . The Wizards gave up two seldom-used players — forward Jan Vesely and point guard Eric Maynor. Vesely goes to the Nuggets, while Maynor gets shipped to the 76ers. Philadelphia receives two second-round draft picks, one from the Wizards in 2015 and one from the Nuggets in 2016. Tanner Lee Jersey .Cameron sustained his third concussion in three seasons last week on a hit by Oakland safety Brandion Ross, who was fined $22,050 by the NFL for the helmet-to-helmet blow. http://www.jaguarsfansclub.com/Black-Lo ... ml?cat=990. It was the start of one nice night for the goalie and the Minnesota Wild. Backstrom made 33 saves in his first win of the season and the Wild defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Saturday in a rematch of their first-round playoff series. Taven Bryan Jersey . It was just time for him to make a big play. Nicolas Batum had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Wesley Matthews scored 18 points, and the Trail Blazers overcame poor-shooting nights by two of their best players in a 94-90 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday. D.J. Hayden Jersey .com) - Wayne Simmonds, Scott Laughton and Jakub Voracek each posted a goal and an assist as the Philadelphia Flyers thumped the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-1, on Saturday.BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Pete Rose is returning to manage a baseball team, but just for one day. The 73-year-old Rose, who has the most career hits in major league history, is scheduled to skipper the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League on Monday. Rose was managing the Cincinnati Reds in 1989 when he agreed to a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball. He later admitted that he bbet on Reds games while running the team.dddddddddddd Rose can take this one-game job because the Bluefish are not affiliated with any major league team. He has occasionally appeared at official events since his ban, with MLBs permission. The Bluefish will host the Lancaster Barnstormers in Roses game. BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Sabres are already hosting the NHLs annual pre-draft scouting combine in each of the next two years. Now, theyre getting the 2016 draft.NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman formally announced Buffalos selection at a news conference shortly before the Sabres home game against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday afternoon.Awarding the 2016 NHL draft to Buffalo honours the passion of its fans for our sports and reflects the commitment Terry and Kim Pegula to the Sabres and to Buffalo, Bettman said, referring to the Sabres owners.Bettman said that awarding the draft to Buffalo also builds on the growing buzz taking place in the city after the Pegulas completed their purchase of the NFL Buffalo Bills last week.Theyre great owners, Bettman said. The fact that they have so invested themselves in Buffalo and the Buffalo sports scene is great news for the city.It will mark the third time Buffalo will be home to the leagues annual draft. The Sabres previously hosted the draft in 1991 and 98.The draft is scheduled for June 24 and 25, 2016.Aside from Montreal, which was home to the draft from 1963-84, Buffalo will become the NHLs first market to hold the event more than twice. Next years draft will be held in Sunrise, Florida. The timing of the announcement further boosts Buffalos reputation as a major North American hockey market. In August, the NHL selected Buffalo to host the next to rookie combines, which had previously been exclusively held in suburban Toronto. Buffalo has played host to two of the past three USA Hockey All-American Prospects games.Next month, the Pegulas privately financed $172 million two-rink hockey/entertainment complex called HarborCenter is scheduled to open across the street from the Sabres downtown arena. When Terry and Kim came here three-and-a-half years ago, we wanted to transform Buffalo into a premier hockey destination, Sabres president Ted Black said. And I think were at a tipping point. A lot of the heavy lifting has taken place, and its wonderful to see the efforts the Pegula family has made to push it over the goal line. And Black added, Its not over yet.The Sabres have also said they intend to bid for the right to host the 2018 World Junior Hockey championships after previously hosting the event in 2011.Bettman hinted the Sabres could be due an outdoor game, after they successfully hosted the first outdoor regular-season game in the United State at Ralph Wilson Stadium in 2008. He also suggested the Sabres should submit a bid to host an NHL all-star game. The Sabres estimate the draft will create about $9.2 million in economic impact for the city. This announcement is a confirmation of the great vision of Terry and Kim Pegula, who have set out to make Buffalo one of the best places in the world for hockey, from peewee to professional, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said.Bettman credited the Terry Pegula for his commitment to Buffalo in owning the Sabres, and now the Bills. My first reaction when I heard that he was interested was the NFL would be lucky have him, Bettman said. Hes a terrific owner and I know how committed he is to Buffalo. Chandler Catanzaro Buccaneers Jersey . Team officials did not indicate the extent of the injury Saturday, simply listing Rose with "left knee soreness." Rose has played two preseason games without any sign of problems. LOS ANGELES -- Aaron Hill was having a miserable night at the plate until he got one more chance to redeem himself. A few well-chosen words of encouragement from manager Kirk Gibson didnt hurt. Hill hit a two-run single in the 12th inning and Miguel Montero homered, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. "Gibby told me in the seventh or eighth inning, Youre going to get the game-winning hit tonight," Hill said. "He knew I was frustrated a little bit, so it just picked me up a little bit and I appreciated it. I dont know if I believed him at the time, but it worked out." Arizona snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 5-14, the worst record in the majors. To do it, the Diamondbacks had to overcome Juan Uribes tying homer in the ninth off closer Addison Reed. "Obviously, the last week or so has been rough," Hill said. "But every day these guys come in with a great attitude, and it doesnt matter if its extra innings or not. It was a beautiful win tonight. It was refreshing, and hopefully we can keep it going." Chris Perez (0-1) gave up a leadoff double to A.J. Pollock in the 12th and plunked pinch-hitter Cliff Pennington on the left foot as he squared to bunt. Gerardo Parra advanced the runners with a sacrifice, and Hill lined an 0-1 pitch to right-centre to break the tie. The second baseman was hitless in five previous at-bats and didnt hit the ball out of the infield. Joe Thatcher (0-1) pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings for the victory and six-year veteran Trevor Cahill got three outs for his first major league save. Cahill was 0-4 with a 9.17 ERA in four starts before he was demoted to the bullpen. "I dont think I was spending all day today thinking I was going to get a save tonight," Cahill said. "Youre out there watching the game, then all of a sudden youre in there and you dont have time to think about it. It was a close game, and I guess I got lonelier down there with everybody leaving. But it was fun. "You dont have to worry about pacing yourself. You can just let it go. Its a lot different than starting, because your adrenaline goes so quick. Then its over, and you dont know what happened." The Dodgers had won the first five meetings with the Diamondbacks this year, including both ends of their season-opening series in Sydney and last weekends three-game set at Phoenix.dddddddddddd The Diamondbacks took a 2-1 lead in the ninth when pinch-runner Tony Campana scored on a wild pitch by reliever Chris Withrow, who was attempting to walk Martin Prado intentionally after falling behind him 2-0. "Ive seen that before, but never been a part of it," Dodgers catcher Tim Federowicz said. "I think if I wouldve jumped a little higher I mightve got it." Uribe responded in the bottom half with a one-out homer on a 2-2 pitch from Reed. Six of Uribes last eight regular-season homers have come against the Diamondbacks -- three in an 8-1 victory last Sept. 9 at Dodger Stadium. Arizona starter Wade Miley took a two-hitter and a 1-0 lead into the seventh in his rematch with Zack Greinke, but Scott Van Slyke drove Mileys 108th and final pitch the other way into the right-field pavilion leading off the inning. "It was a fun game to be a part of," Miley said. "Obviously I wasnt enthused about the walks, but I got through it. I told Gibby I wanted to go out there for the seventh and save the bullpen a little more. It wasnt a terrible pitch, but it caught a little more of the plate than I wanted it to and he did a good job with it." Miley struck out eight and walked five in his third start of the season against Los Angeles. Both of the left-handers losses have come against the defending NL West champions, including an 8-5 victory by Greinke last Saturday in Phoenix. "Miley had better command tonight. He attacked more and threw a lot more strikes early," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "The two games before, we were getting into favourable counts." Montero homered in the sixth off Greinke, who struck out eight over six innings as Los Angeles opened a 10-game homestand. NOTES: The Dodgers havent won their first six meetings against a team in their own division since 1988, when they started 6-0 against Atlanta. The Braves were in the NL West at that time. ... Thatcher has not allowed an earned run in his last 32 appearances against the Dodgers spanning 19 innings. ... Thirteen of the last 14 home runs Greinke has allowed have been solo shots, including the last nine. ... Tommy Lasorda and his wife, Jo, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary at Dodger Stadium. They were a big hit on the "Kiss-Cam" after the fourth inning. Every night of the Stanley Cup playoffs, TSN hockey analyst and former NHL goaltender Jamie McLennan breaks down each goalies performance. Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Steve Mason, Philadelphia (4) - Mason was brilliant all night long with save after big save on Benoit Pouliot, Carl Hagelin and Derick Brassard. He was the difference in the game for Philly. They were good tonight as a team, but the Flyers still gave up chances and had breakdowns and thats where Mason came in. He showed elite puck-handling, as well, in this game and was a big reason that they did not spend extended lengths in their own zone. Henrik Lundqvist, New York (2) - Lundqvist didnt really get a ton of help tonight. He made a few big saves on Wayne Simmonds early on, as well as Brayden Schenn and Scott Hartnell, but was eaten up by Simmonds over the game and was mercifully pulled after two. That was the right call by Alain Vigneault, as the focus would be to get him ready for Game 7 on Wednesday. Cam Talbot, New York (N/R) - He was on mop-up duty and not tested much. The running back told The Tennessean he was having surgery in Pensacola, Fla.What kind of situation were you in when the trade happened?I knew I wanted to be a Number 1 somewhere, and at the end of that season, I was going to become a UFA. So once that season was played out, I knew I was going to be on the open market. How did you hear the news? We got to Toronto and we were having a morning skate the day of the deadline, since we were playing that night. Lindy Ruff called me into his office before I got on the ice, and we started talking about what I wanted to do. Did I want to go be a Number one somewhere?I told him it was out of my control. I knew I was going to try to move on in the summer, but I wasnt going to demand a trade: I loved the group of guys and the fans. So we talked for a little bit, and then he said, “Youve been traded.”And I said, “Oh! Well, okay. Where?”He said: “Dont know yet. Still working out the details.”I dont know if there were a couple options out there, but he said, “Get your stuff at the hotel and take a car service backk to Buffalo, head home and well figure it out from there.dddddddddddd” About a half an hour later I got a call from [GM] Darcy [Regier] saying, “Youre going to Philadelphia, youll get a call from Paul Holmgren pretty soon.” He said, “Why dont you meet the team in Boston, theyre playing there in a couple days.” So I flew to Boston and met everybody there. Is it awkward joining a new team for the first time?It was very interesting. I was in an unfamiliar place, with new teammates and coaches and trainers. But I knew Robert Esche and Simon Gagne, so I went and talked to them. You find the guys youre comfortable with and you latch onto them! Did it feel like your whole life had been upended? My wife and I had two young kids, but we were prepared for it. I went to Philly and found an apartment we could stay in for the rest of the year. I got it all set up, and my wife drove down with the kids about 10 days later. I was waiting on the corner for her, showing her where to park.
