SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramentos City Council on Tuesday approved a financing plan for the Kings NBA franchise, clearing the way for construction on a $477 million downtown arena. The council voted 7-2 on the package during a meeting that caps off the citys lengthy struggle to keep the team from moving to Seattle a year ago. Mayor Kevin Johnson declared "Long live the Kings" after the final vote, and the chamber erupted in cheers along with team owners. "We had our backs against the wall, but we defied the odds. We made a comeback for the ages and in doing so, I feel like we unleashed the very best that Sacramento has to offer," said Johnson, a former three-time NBA All-Star who maintains strong connections to the league. Under the 35-year deal, the city would be responsible for a $223 million subsidy, much of it financed through a parking revenue bond. The city would pay an estimated $21.9 million a year in debt service that would be paid through lease payments from the Kings and a projected increase in parking revenue. The city also is transferring $32 million worth of land and allowing the team to operate six digital billboards. In return, the Kings would contribute $254 million to construct the arena and develop surrounding land with a hotel, office tower and shopping. Construction on the crown-shaped sports facility will break ground this summer and open in time for the 2016-17 season. At the start of the council meeting, Kings President Chris Granger called it a historic day for the team and Sacramento region, saying the arena would serve as a hub for economic development. The project would bring 11,000 construction jobs and 4,000 permanent jobs, he said. "This is certainly bigger than basketball," Granger said. "But it doesnt just end there. At the very core, this project is about community." The NBA had told the city that it must open the arena by 2017 or risk losing the Kings. Former Kings owners George, Joe and Gavin Maloof considered moving the team to Las Vegas, Anaheim and Virginia Beach, Virginia, until announcing an agreement that called for investor Chris Hansen to buy the team and move it to Seattle. Johnson led the city in a fight to keep the Kings and got the City Council to approve a plan for a new arena. The Maloofs then sold the Kings to a group led by TIBCO Software Chairman Vivek Ranadive. The council approved a financing plan that allows for construction on the new sports and entertainment complex to replace an aging shopping mall a few blocks from the Capitol. The Kings have played in Sacramento since 1985 and currently play in the 26-year-old Sleep Train Arena, in the citys north end. Scott VandenBerg, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Sacramento and chairman of the board of the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the council that the arena will support new and existing businesses by expanding tourism. "Just the speculation that an entertainment and sports complex was going to be approved has already helped improve the health of our downtown core," VandenBerg said. Council members who opposed the deal said that the projects economic benefits are overstated and fear the city isnt getting enough from a public subsidy. Councilman Darrell Fong said the arena adds too much debt. "I know my vote wont stop this deal," Fong said. "Believe me, I hope Im proven wrong." A majority, however, hailed Tuesday as a pivotal moment for elevating the citys reputation. "Its not just about a venue for entertainment and sports; its about the type of life that people get to have when they choose to live in our region," said Councilwoman Angelique Ashby. Critics unsuccessfully tried to block the citys subsidy with a petition drive that failed to qualify for the ballot. Opponents including Patrick Soluri, a Sacramento attorney, vowed to continue to fight. "The mayor and City Council no longer represent the interests of ordinary citizens," Soluri told the council. "Cronyism is running rampant, subsidies for the super-wealthy are handed out at the expense of working-class people and basic municipal services." Before the vote, the team sponsored a rally outside City Hall to show support for the project, drawing hundreds of fans, many of them dressed in purple, the teams colour. World Cup 2018 Jerseys England .Y. -- The Montreal Canadiens have had few reasons to celebrate this season as they have been mired near the basement of the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets hooked up to make a deal involving veteran wingers, both of whom have size and can score. Numbers Game looks into the trade that sends Scott Hartnell to Columbus for R.J. Umberger and a pick. The Blue Jackets Get: LW Scott Hartnell. Hartnell, 32, is coming off a season in which he scored 20 goals for the seventh time in his career and his 52 points represented the third-highest total of his career. Since joining the Flyers in 2007, hes one of eight players with at least 100 goals and 500 penalty minutes. While Hartnell does take more than his share of penalties, hes an aggravating player to play against, doesnt hesitate to go to the other teams net and has a tendency to fall, which means he also draws a lot of penalties. So long as hes healthy, Hartnell gets involved in the play. Despite his style of play, Hartnell is durable. Hes missed 23 games in seven seasons with the Flyers, including 16 games with a broken foot in 2013. Part of the reason that Hartnell has been so effective is that he has been riding shotgun alongside Claude Giroux for a good portion of the last handful of seasons. While Hartnell isnt necessarily the one driving play on that line, hes been a very good complement to Giroux and Jakub Voracek, most recently, as that trio has generated better possession numbers together than when they were apart. In Columbus, that ability to play with top talent, could give Hartnell a legitimate chance to spend time on the wing with Ryan Johansen on the Blue Jackets first line, though Boone Jenner and Nathan Horton can make some claims to those wing spots as well. Where this deal could become an issue for Columbus is that Hartnell is signed through 2019, thats five more seasons, at a cap hit of $4.75-million. Hartnell isnt the fleetest afoot already, so as he gets into his mid-thirties, that is only going to be more of an issue in a game that is getting ever faster. But, if Hartnell could fill a top six role for the next couple seasons, and a third or fourth line spot for a couple more, then maybe the last year could be tolerable when compared to what the Blue Jackets felt they could be getting out of Umberger going forward. The Flyers Get: LW R.J. Umberger and a fourth-round pick. Umberger is a 32-year-old who can play all three forward spots and is a five-time 20-goal scorer who has hit for 50 points or more three times in his career. This past season, Umbergers role was reduced, his 16:53 average time on ice reprresenting his lowest since 2006-2007, when he was playing for Philadelphia.dddddddddddd. While Umberger doesnt stir things up the way Hartnell does, hes still a physical player, using his 6-foot-2, 220-pound frame to his advantage and Umberger is a stronger skater. The trouble for Umberger is that hes been getting worse as a possession player. He had some okay years mixed with some bad years earlier in his career, but Umberger has been thumped in possession terms over the past three seasons and virtually every one of his teammates has fared better without Umberger on the ice. That doesnt mean Umberger cant play. It does mean he was likely playing too big a role on a Columbus team that, until 2013-2014, has been on the wrong side of the scoreboard all too often. Where does Umberger fit in Philadelphia? Well, his flexibility does help in this respect. While Umberger isnt necessarily a natural choice to play with Giroux and Voracek, playing alongside Sean Couturier and Matt Read could be a possibility. Umberger has also played enough centre that he could fit into that spot if the Flyers juggle some pieces around when composing their lines. If Umberger isnt going to play on the Flyers top line, thats a plum opening. If it is going to come from within, Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn or Vincent Lecavalier could get that opportunity. Umberger is signed for three more seasons, at a cap hit of $4.6-million per season, so he doesnt provide much cap relief, aside from the fact that his deal runs a couple of years less than Hartnells. A fourth-round pick doesnt offer huge value, but of the 600 picks in the 91-120 range made between 1990 and 2009, just over 4% became top-six forwards, top-four defencemen or starting goaltenders, while just under 20% have played (or are most likely to play) 100 NHL games. Immediately, the Blue Jackets appear to be the better team for making this deal. Not that Hartnell holds a monumental advantage over Umberger, but hes been more productive and has fared positively no matter who he plays with. Umberger had requested a move out of Columbus, not appreciating his declining role, and he should have a chance to play a top nine role in an organization that he played with for the first three seasons of his NHL career but, in a vacuum, this deal makes the Flyers slightly worse. Two teams that shed significant parts on Wednesdays NHL trade deadline square off Thursday night as the Edmonton Oilers host the New York Islanders at Rexall Place. The Islanders dealt Thomas Vanek to the Montreal Canadiens after less than a year on Long Island. Meanwhile, the Oilers dealt long-time sniper Ales hemsky to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday for a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a third-rounder in 2015. Edmonton did snap a three-game slide on Tuesday, besting the Ottawa Senators 3-2. Jordan Eberle had the eventual game-winner and Taylor Hall had two assists. Ben Scrivens, one day after signing a two-year extension with Edmonton, posted 34 saves. Hemsky scored twice in his final game with the Oilers. The Czech Republic native posted nine goals and 17 assists in 55 games with the Oilers this season. A first-round selection (13th overall) by the Oilers in 2001, Hemsky has recorded 142 goals and 335 assists for 477 points in 652 NHL games. "Its just a mix of feelings," said Hemsky. "Its hard to leave from here because Ive been here for so long and I was comfortable here. I knew the city and the team and everything. Its the only team Ive been playing for so its kind of weird. Like I said, Im ready for the challenge." Edmonton also traded defenseman Nick Schultz to the Columbus Blue Jets for an upcoming fifth-round draft pick. The Oilers lost a 3-2 decision in New York back on Oct. 17 and have dropped three of the last four meetings. The Islanders, though, have lost three straight in Edmonton, where they have not won since March 13, 2003. The Islanders take aim at their first two-game winning streak in well over a month on Thursday night. New York, aiming for a second straight trip to the playoffs, made a bold move back in October when it acquired winger Thomas Vanek from the Buffalo Sabres for forward Matt Moulson and two draft picks, including a first-round pick in 2014. The Islanders, though, have struggled for most of the season and it appeared as though they were going to be unable to re-sign Vanek before he hit unrestricted free agency this summer. Those factors all led to New York trading Vanek on Wednesday to the Montreal Canadiens. In return, the Isles got prospect Sebastian Collberg and will also get a 2014 second-round pick from the Habs if they make the playoffs. New York would also send Montreal a fifth-round selection should that happen. It marked the second trade in as many days for the Islanders, who on Tuesday shipped defenseman Andrew MacDonald to the Philadelphia Flyers prior to a game versus the hosting Winnipeg Jets. Vanek was a healthy scratch for that contest, but New York still managed a 3-2 victory in overtime to win for only the third time in its past 12 games. Michael Grabner had the winner in overtime, taking a lead pass from Cal Clutterbuck before racing past two Jets defenders. The speedy forward then beat Ondrej Pavelec with a forehand shot with 69 seconds left in the bonus frame. Colin McDonald and Anders Lee each scored in regulation, while Anders Nilsson made 36 saves in the victory. New York played most of the contest without forward Eric Boulton, who exited early with a hand injury. "I think that most guys know that this time of year is a little difficult, but I thought we were focused. We were ready to play obviously against a big strong hockey team thats playing real well," Islanders head coach Jack Capuano said. Despite winning the opener of a four-game road trip, the Isles are 13 points back of a playoff spot. Florian Thauvin France Jersey . Nabil Fekir Jersey . -- The Chicago Bears agreed Tuesday to a one-year contract with defensive lineman Israel Idonije and are bringing him back for a second stint.MANCHESTER, England -- Ashley Cole was left out of the England World Cup squad on Sunday, prompting the veteran Chelsea defender to announce his retirement from international duty. England coach Roy Hodgson said omitting the 33-year-old Cole was part of his plan to "look to the future," making it likely Luke Shaw will be the backup to Leighton Baines at left back in Brazil despite only making his international debut in March. Ahead of Mondays public squad announcement, Hodgson rang the players who were not among the 23 players being taken to Brazil. "I got the call from Roy and agree England team should be about the young players," Cole wrote on his Twitter account. "I think it best I retire from England team now ... like me or not, trust me its hurt me to stop playing for my country." After making his England debt in 2001, Cole went on to win 107 caps, the last coming in the 1-0 friendly win over Denmark in March. "Among many difficult decisions Ive had to make for my squad, not selecting Ashley was one of the hardest," Hodgson said. "Hes been an incredible competitor for England, to amass over a century of caps is a truly staggering achievement and he deserves enormous credit for the desire and brilliance which has shone through over the years he has represented his country. "There are few players who can be considered among the very best in the world, but Ashley in his prime was the best left back without question." Cole, who fell out of contention for England after losing his starting spot at Chelsea this season, endorsed Baines of Everton and Southampton teennager Shaw.dddddddddddd "Baines and Shaw are great players, proved this season, and are the future of this country, it was a pleasure to get 107 caps," Cole tweeted. Before England opens the World Cup against Italy on June 14, Hodgsons side has friendlies against Peru at Wembley Stadium, and Ecuador and Honduras in Miami. "We have a great manager and team and I wish them only success," Cole said. "I will be supporting them like a true fan." Hodgsons intention to take younger players in Brazil could see Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard also miss out on the World Cup despite 103 international appearances. The 20-year-old Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is being tipped as another youngster to make the squad as Hodgson blends a dynamic team to make an impact in Brazil. There was encouraging news for Hodgson on Sunday over midfielder Jack Wilshere, who returned to action for Arsenal after spending two months on the sidelines since fracturing his left foot in Englands friendly win over Denmark in March. "He can play now, so it shows you that there is no problem for him to be available for England," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said after Sundays 2-0 win at Norwich. Another Arsenal midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, should also be fit for the World Cup despite being out for three weeks with a groin injury, according to Wenger. "He should reintegrate into the squad on Wednesday in normal training," said Wenger, whose side plays Hull in the FA Cup final on Saturday. "He will be available for Roy to pick him. I wouldnt be surprised if he was picked." INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- The Cleveland Cavaliers made a big change with another season falling apart, firing general manager Chris Grant on Thursday. Grant was fired a day after the Cavs dropped their sixth straight game, an embarrassing home loss to a Los Angeles Lakers team that started with eight players and finished with five. Vice president of basketball operations David Griffin will serve as acting general manager. Owner Dan Gilbert made it clear hes unhappy with what has transpired in a season that began with hopes the Cavs would make the playoffs after a three-year absence. "This has been a very difficult period for the franchise," Gilbert said in a statement. "We have severely underperformed against expectations. Just as this is completely unacceptable to our loyal and passionate fan base, season ticket holders and corporate partners, it is also just as unacceptable to our ownership group." Gilbert also met with reporters at the teams training facility following the announcement. He expressed confidence that the Cavs can show improvement under coach Mike Brown over the final 33 games. Grant was instrumental in the rehiring of Brown, who was fired during his first stint with the team in 2010. Gilbert was asked if Browns job was safe for the rest of this season. "Were going to see Mike Brown succeed this year because I think that hell be able to do good things and I think this team will be able to do good things," Gilbert said. "I think theyre going to look at each other and theyre going to look in the mirror and theyre going to rally." Gilbert also was asked why he decided to change his general manager but not his coach. "Coach Brown has only been here over half a season," he said. "Chris Grant has been here 8 1/2 years. Hes been the general manager almost four years. Theres a lot of talent on this team. I think everybody knows that." Gilbert promised last spring the Cavs would not return to the NBA lottery, but Cleveland is 16-33 and has dropped six in a row -- matching its longest losing streak of the season. The Cavs are 5 1/2 games out of the final playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference and their only win in the last nine games came over Milwaukee, which has the leagues worst record. "Accountability starts with me," Gilbert said. "I take responsibility for where were at." Grants tenure will be known for not being able to rebuild the Cavs fast enough despite having a slew of first-round draft picks, including two No. 1 overall selections. Grant addressed the teams poor play last week, saying everyone in the organization was accountable, including himself. Grant took Anthony Bennett with the first pick last June and then signed free-agent centre Andrew Bynum during the summer when no other team would offer the 7-footer a contract. Grant was able to unload Bynum in a trade with Chicago for Luol Deng, but the forwards arrival has done little to invigorate the Cavs. Cleveland has been under .500 since the fifth game of the season and the players have been slow to pick up Browns system on both ends of the floor. In a season thats already had too many low moments, the Cavs hit rock bottom Wednesday. Not only did they fall behind by 29 points to Los Angeles, the Lakers played the final few minutes with five healthy players, including one who was allowed to remain in the game after committing his sixth foul because coach Mike DAntoni was out of bodies. The Cavs were booed throughout the game and Brown, who has been unable to come up with any answers to stop his teams skid, benched All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and three other starters in the fourth quarter as Cleveland got back in the game before losing 119-108. The acquisition of Deng last month brought hope the season could be salvaged, but that proved to be temporary. The Cavs went 3-2 on a West Coast trip, but followed that with a 1-4 record on its longest homestand of the season. Cleveland then lost three consecutive road games, including a 31-point rout by the Knicks on national television. Grant joined the organization in 2005 as vice-president of basketball operations/assistant general manager. He was hired as general manager on June 4, 2010. Griffin was hired later that year after spending 17 seasons with the Phoenix Suns, the last three as the clubs senior vice-president of basketball operations. Andrea Barzagli Juventus Jersey . Or how his team has defended Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Or just about anything that has happened on the court in the first-round playoff series. Instead, Rivers and his players spent Saturday talking about how they would respond to an audio recording of a man identified as Clippers owner Donald Sterling telling his girlfriend not to bring black people to games. Giorgio Chiellini Jersey . But that changed when he committed a five-minute major penalty and helped pave the way for a comeback by the Philadelphia Flyers. Vincent Lecavalier scored at 2:45 of overtime and the Flyers rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 5-4 victory on Sunday. http://www.authenticjuventusteamshop.us ... -Jersey/.Y. -- The New York Islanders were seeking a positive finish to a frustrating season on home ice. Carlo Pinsoglio Juventus Jersey . So true. It is one thing to create a winning football team, and another to keep it winning. Each and every week it changes. The NFL creates a unique interest of not who is "the best", but much more who is "the best this week". Miralem Pjanic Jersey . Head coach Corey Chamblin announced on Monday that Avon Cobourne had been hired as the defending Grey Cup champions new running backs coach.GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Josh Boyd isnt into making a fashion statement, and he doesnt think he needs to go sleeveless to show off his toughness. All the Packers defensive lineman wants is to stay warm in the subzero weather when Green Bay hosts the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC wild-card showdown that could be one of the coldest playoff games in NFL history. So many intriguing story lines between these two NFC powers, and yet the arctic cold may trump them all. "Yeah, Im definitely going sleeves," said Boyd, a rookie from Mississippi. "I mean, I dont see it as a tough guy thing. I just see it as being comfortable." The National Weather Service forecast called for a high temperature in Green Bay on Sunday of 2 degrees, with north-northwest winds making it feel more like minus-15 to minus-20. The coldest NFL game on record is the 1967 championship game, known as the "Ice Bowl" won by the Packers 21-17 over the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field on New Years Eve. The temperature dipped to minus-13, and the wind chill that day was minus-48. This might be little consolation to Boyd, for whom cold games in college meant playing in 30- or 40-degree weather. "Im from Mississippi, so this is a whole other animal," Boyd said. "Ive never seen negatives until I got here." Linemen are renowned for toughing out inclement weather without sleeves under jerseys. Dont want to give the opponent even the slightest idea that youre soft, the line of thinking goes. Well, 49ers defensive tackle Justin Smith is as tough as they come, and even he might wear sleeves for what he estimates would be just the second or third time in his 13-year career. "Youre not going to have an advantage having no sleeves. Youre not going to scare the opponent," said Smith, who has 6 1/2 sacks. Across the line of scrimmage, centre Jonathan Goodwin said he had no problem wearing sleeves. "I gave up on the dont wear sleeves to look tough a long time ago," he said. In some ways, players might be warmer than the 80,000 fans expected to pack frigid Lambeau. Once they get to the sideline, players can take a break on heated bbenches.dddddddddddd Theyll likely wear long, heavy coats while not in the game. "This is not the norm. Anytime you get outside the norm for whatever your occupation, its obviously challenging mentally and physically," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "Thats definitely going to be the case Sunday." Footing on the field will be a key issue. Lambeau does have a heating system buried beneath the turf, encompassing 30 miles of pipes. There was supposed to be a brief "break" in the cold snap with temperatures rising into the upper 20s on Saturday, which McCarthy said would give groundskeepers a key day to work on the field. "It could be just a normal game thats played at a little slower pace. Or it could be where theres a lot of slipping and sliding going on, then you have to adjust a little bit," 49ers defensive co-ordinator Vic Fangio said. "You need to wait to see Sunday exactly see how the field affects the game." Another key for players will be to stay hydrated, though McCarthy jokingly put his index finger to his lips as if to tell a reporter to not let out the secret when asked the question Friday. "Weve seen it in past games where guys do cramp, so yes, its all part of our preparation," McCarthy said. If not for the arctic front marching into Wisconsin, more of the attention before Sundays game might be focused on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernicks mastery of Green Bay in the teams last two meetings. Or quarterback Aaron Rodgers triumphant return from a left collarbone injury to help the resurgent Packers get back into the playoffs. Instead, San Francisco and Green Bay will have to deal with an unwelcome extra opponent: the bitter cold. Packers defensive lineman Mike Daniels seems to subscribe to the sleeves-are-soft philosophy. He doesnt like wearing them and plans to just play through the big chill and block out the conditions. And dont get him started on hand warmers. "I see offensive linemen with hand warmers, that tells me about them, man," Daniels said. "A defensive line coach in college said that, so I kind of kept that mentality." WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost their leading rusher Wednesday after Nic Grigsby sought and received his release over a decision to make him take a backup role for a second straight week. Its just one more blow for the slumping Blue Bombers (6-9), who started the season on a winning streak but now find themselves with only a slim chance of making the playoffs. They have three games left, two against the league-leading Calgary Stampeders (12-2), starting this Friday in Winnipeg. Their remaining home game after that is set for Oct. 25 against the B.C. Lions (8-7), now four points ahead of the Bombers in the CFL West race for a crossover playoff spot. The Bombers announced Grigsbys release in a one-sentence statement Wednesday. I brought him into the office to explain what his role was going to be this week and he asked to be released, Bombers coach Mike OShea said later. The team agreed to the release and OShea wouldnt say why a trade wasnt considered. Grigsby leads the CFL with nine touchdowns and is fourth overall with 744 rushing yards, but he sat out last weeks 41-9 loss to Edmonton. Grigsby said his farewells on Twitter: To all my fans I love all the support and they backed me into a corner! That I had know (sic) other choice! Only they can answer that! OShea tried to spark his teams faltering offence last week by giving Paris Cotton the start instead of Grigsby. Cotton had eight carries for 31 yards against the Eskimos, but OShea plans to give him another shot against the Stampeders. Last week in the first half we were so far behind that we werent giving Paris a chance to get a look, OShea said. He just wasnt going to get the touches so I needed to see him again. The Bombers were down 37-0 at the half. Cotton refused to answer any questions about Grigsby after Wednesdays practice, which was held behind closed gates because of police training in the stadium. Cotton challenged for the starters job in camp but was injured in a pre-season game and Grigsby claimed the spot. He took full advantage and led the CFL in rushing yards at one point when the Bombers were still on a roll. Since then, their ground game has weakened and the losses have mounted. Other players wished Grigsby well but slotback Nick Moore said he wouldnt quit over being asked to take a backup role, even though he wouldnt like it. If he (OShea) asked me to back up and I was healthy, I mean I would definitely be frustrated, said Moore, a high-profile free-agent signing for the Bombers. That being said, I wouldnt, you know, ask to be released. Im not saying anything about Nic, because I wouldnt do something like that, but I would just accept the role and do what Ive got to do. The Bombers, who are coming off one of their worst seasons ever, havent won a game since Aug. 22. They finished with a 3-15 mark last year and cleaned house in the front office and coaching ranks. This is OSheas first season as a head coach and general manager Kyle Walters first full season in his position. Winnipeg also has a rookie starting quarterback in Drew Willy, who has proved both durable and competent, although his effectiveness has been hampered by a league-leading 58 sacks allowed. Willy is still second in the CFL in passing yards at 3,526, although it was uncertain Wednesday whether hell be able to start against Calgary because of nagging problems with his throwing hand. Winnipegs offensive line has been blamed for his lack of protection and that certainly isnt new. I think since Ive been here, everybodys kind of dumped on the O-line, said Veteran Steve Morley. It sucks ... but all we can do is do what the coaches tell us. The Bombers have had trouble recruiting Canadian starters like Morley, now in his sixth season with the team and ninth in the CFL. You cant make excuses, you know, he said. We just have to be better. Its no one persons fault, its a group effort and everyone in that room knows that. Veteran defensive back Johnny Sears added the team cant give up with three games left. You go in that locker-room right now and were gonna tell you we expect to win Saturday and thats the mindset we have to have, he said. Troy Apke Jersey . De La Rosa pitched six strong innings to win his sixth consecutive decision, Todd Helton homered and the Colorado Rockies snapped the Los Angeles Dodgers six-game winning streak with a 7-5 victory on Wednesday night. Derrius Guice Jersey . Right-hander Todd Redmond took the loss. Jose Bautista hit his second home run of the spring. Here are a handful of tidbits from around camp: Hutchison impressive The Blue Jays are being cautious when talking about their young arms but internally, excitement is building over the way Drew Hutchison is looking and performing this spring. http://www.theredskinsshoponline.com/. Mike Ribeiro had a goal and an assist as Phoenix held on to snap a two-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. Troy Apke Redskins Jersey . Notes on Bergeron, Marchand, Gorges, Vanek, Gaborik, Doughty, Hiller and more. BRUINS STORM BACK TO TAKE GAME TWO The Boston Bruins rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring four unanswered goals, to win Game Two, 5-3 over the Montreal Canadiens. Custom Washington Redskins Jerseys . So they rushed to re-sign the first baseman who general manager Ben Cherington described Friday as "a unique player." The World Series champions finalized a $32 million, two-year agreement Thursday with the slugging former catcher who turned into a surprisingly good defender. SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds has paid $4,100 in penalties stemming from his obstruction of justice conviction two years ago. A filing Monday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco says Bonds paid the money Oct. 2. Bonds was fined $4,000, which goes to a crime victims fund, and given a $100 special assessment. The seven-time NL MVP was convicted of one obstruction count in April 2011 by a jury that found an answer he gave was criminally evasive during 2003 testimony before a grand jury investigating the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs. The jury deadlocked on thhree counts charging Bonds with making false statements, and they were dismissed.dddddddddddd. Bonds sentence from U.S. District Judge Susan Illston in December 2011 also included 30 days of house arrest with location monitoring, two years of probation and 250 hours of community service with youth-related activities. Bonds conviction was upheld in September by a unanimous three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and he agreed to start serving the sentence. He has asked the 9th Circuit to have an 11-judge limited en banc panel review the case. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Detroit slugger Miguel Cabreras 10th inning at-bat against Tampa Bay closer Fernando Rodney overshadowed the Rays comeback victory. Yunel Escobar had an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Rays rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night. But most of the attention after the game centred on Cabrera yelling at the Tampa Bay dugout after he struck out against Rodney. The Rays right-hander threw an in-tight and up pitch to back Cabrera off the plate during the at-bat. "I dont know what hes saying," Rodney said. "Im trying to do my job. You have to pitch inside sometimes. You have to pitch inside, outside, everywhere. You dont want to hit nobody because the game is on the line. "Thats what I got on my mind, try to move (him) a little bit because the guy is a dangerous hitter." Cabrera declined to comment about the confrontation, but Tigers manager Jim Leyland talked about it in a strong way. "I dont care about throwing inside, but I dont like it up there, and we will not tolerate that," Leyland said. "Im not accusing anybody of anything but we wont tolerate that. If youre going to just rare back and throw it, you cant throw it there. Thatll cause a lot of problems for people. Thats not a good idea. Thats not acceptable. "We lost a tough game. They earned the win, they got the win, and OK, more power to them, but throwing in that area is not acceptable, and somebody pays the price for that throughout baseball. Thats just the way baseball is. Thats not free. Theres no free lunch. That wont be tolerated. You can take that to the bank" Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said he had no idea why Cabrera was upset. "Youd have to ask him why," Maddon said. "I was kind of surprised, actually." Rodney (3-2) threw two scoreless innings for the win Cabrera went 1 for 4 with a walk, but his major league-leading batting average dropped two points to .375. He has a 14-game hitting streak. James Loney had a one-out single in the 10th off Bruce Rondon (0-1). Pinch-runner Sam Fuld went to second on Wil Myers single, and after Luke Scott struck out, both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Escobar won it for the Rays with a line drive that sailed over the head of centre fielder Austin Jackson. "Im very happy that I was able to help the team win," Escobar said through an interpreter. Scott tied it at 3 on a solo homer with one out in the eighth off Tigers starter Justin Verlander, who allowed three runs, nine hits and four walks during a season-high eight innings. Verlander is winless in his last four starts. "This is the game weve talked about that we have to start winning, and we won it tonight against a really good team," Maddon said. Rays slugger Evan Longoria was out of the starting lineup for the first time this season due to a sore right foot. The third baseman, who left Friday nights game, is also expected to sit out on Sunday against the Tigers. Jackson hit an opposite-field solo homer to right, and Jhonny Peralta had a two-run single off Chris Archer that put the Tigers ahead 3-0 in the third. Archer gave up three runs, five hits, three walks and had three strikeouts in five innings. Loney had an RBI single during the fifth to get the Rays within 3-2. Verlander avoided further damage by getting a double-play grounder from rookie Myers with two on and one out. Loney grounded into a double play with runners on the corners and one out in the seventh. Myers flied out with two runners on to end the first. Tampa Bays Desmond Jennings tripled and scored on Ben Zobrists grounder in the third. Jennings, playing in centre, was charged with an error in the eighth, which snapped a streak of 262 games in the outfield without a miscue. EDMONTON -- Edmonton Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins wasnt concerned with how his team won on Tuesday, simply that they did. Jordan Eberle scored in overtime as the Oilers continued to try to drag themselves back from a tough start to the season with a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. The Oilers had led 4-1 at one point, but allowed the Hurricanes back into the game. Carolinas Justin Faulk took a penalty early in the overtime session for a hit from behind on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers forward was able to remain on the ice and set up the winner, sending a pass to Eberle at the side of the net to put the game away 1:48 into OT. "Id love to have a win every night. I dont care how we get them," Eakins said. "It was two points. Would we have like to have ended that game 4-1? Absolutely. But the important thing is there is two points in the bank." Eberle said it was a good feeling to come away with the victory, especially after almost letting it slip away. "It was a relief to get the win," he said. "We played extremely well in the first and for a little bit in the second and then completely took our foot off the gas. I dont know what it was, but we just started turning pucks over and losing battles and playing bad defensively. Its frustrating when that happens, but we found a way to win and thats the biggest thing." Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov, Nugent-Hopkins and Jesse Joensuu also scored for the Oilers (11-18-3) who have gone 7-3-1 in their last 11 games. Edmonton also improved its troubling home record to 7-9-2 with a 2-1-1 record through the first four games of a five-game homestand. "We are working hard to get out of the hole we created for ourselves and it seems we are on a bit of a run now," Hall said. "Now it is time to get two in a row, something we havent been able to do for a while." Tuomo Ruutu, Jordan Staal, Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner replied for the Hurricanes (13-13-6), who have lost two in a row on the heels of a three-game winning streak. "Were a pretty resilient team," said Carolina head coach Kirk Muller. "We have to look at the positives, we got a point. We got out-played in the first, and came back in the second. We had a really good second and third. We got a really big point and possibly could have had two." The Oilers were buzzing to start the game and got on the board just 1:33 into the first period. Hall had a clear lane to the net and seemed to catch Carolina goalie Cam Ward napping with a quick shot that beat him glove-side. It was Halls 12th goal of the season and fifth in the last three games. The Hurricanes tied the game just over six minutes into the opening frame on a power-play goal. Ruutu was able to tip a Skinner shot on net and then get his own rebound after Edmonton defender Nick Schultz failed to clear the puck in front and put it past Oilers starter Devan Dubnyk. Edmonton vaulted back in front with nine minutes remaining in the first period as Yakupov took a pass from Hall and sent a blast from the slot that went through the legs of both defenceman Ron Hainsey and Ward. It was just the fourth goal of the season for the 2012 first-overall draft pick. Yakupov was looking for another with three minutes left with another bullet from in tight, but the puck went off the post. Edmonton kept coming and made it 3-1 with 1:46 remaining in the first period as Nugent-Hopkins was able to beat Ward with a shot up high while sliding in towards the net on his knees. Edmonton out-shot the Hurricanes 14-6 in the opening 20 minutes. The Oilers added to their lead less than two minutes into the second period as Mark Arcobello worked hard to get a backhand away off his knees from behind the net to set up Joensuu for a quick shot on the doorstep and a 4-1 Edmonton advantage. Carolina started to push its way back into the game and was finally rewarded for it midway through the second. After sustained pressure in the Edmonton zone, a puck came loose to Jordan Staal in front of the net and he buried his seventh of the season through Dubnyks legs. The Hurricanes made it a 4-3 game eight minutes into the third period, as Eric Staal was able to pick off a poor Eberle pass and streak down the ice on a short-handed breakaway. Staal faked a slapshot and got Dubnyk to commit and go down before calmly putting the puck into the empty net behind him. Shortly after, Carolinas Riley Nash was tossed from the game and given a major penalty for a hit from behind on Edmontons Corey Potter. But it was a wasted opportunity for the Oilers, who barely registered a shot. "We definitely lost some momentum there and they gained some," Nugent-Hopkins said. "We cant let that happen. When you get a five-minute power play, you have to get at least one goal. That wasnt our best job. But it is a big win for us and we have to build off this now." The lack of offence proved costly as the Hurricanes tied the game with just over five minutes remaining in the third after Edmonton failed to clear the zone in a sloppy sequence. Skinner was able to take a no-look turnaround shot from the point that somehow got past Dubnyk for his 10th goal of the year to make it 4-4 and eventually send the game to extra time. Both teams return to the ice on Thursday as the Hurricanes play the third game of a four-game trip in Calgary against the Flames, while the Oilers wrap up a five-game homestand against the Boston Bruins. Notes: It was the first of two meetings this season between the Oilers and Hurricanes, who havent played a game against each other since December, 2011. It was only the 19th regular season meeting ever between the two teams, who met in the 2006 Stanley Cup final. Their next game will be on March 16 in Carolina. ... PHILADELPHIA -- The 76ers fans came to celebrate Allen Iversons No. 3. Trevor Ariza left them talkin about 40. Ariza made eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 40 points to help the Washington Wizards win their sixth straight game, 122-103 over Philadelphia on Saturday night. Ariza made all six 3-point attempts in the first quarter for 24 points and finished 14 of 23 from the floor overall. The 76ers lost their 13th straight game on the night they retired Iversons No. 3. Iverson had his number sent to the rafters, fit between Maurice Cheeks No. 10 and Charles Barkleys No. 34. The Sixers even gave him a boat named, "The Answer." The Sixers enjoyed their first sellout of 20,856 for Iversons triumphant homecoming. The fans, though, saw the same old sorry Sixers. Ariza had his milestone game in front of one of his childhood favourites. "What he brought to the game made me love the game the way I love it," he said. "He was amazing for a lot of years and he definitely changed the culture of the NBA. This was his night and, I guess, thats definitely a thanks for all the things hes done throughout my life and my career. "Just being a fan of his since I was young, its great to be able to perform that way on a big night like that for him." Ariza had plenty of help for a Wizards team making a run in the Eastern Conference. John Wall had 17 points and tied a career high with 16 assists, and Marcin Gortat had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Ariza, averaging 14.3 points, seemed like he would top his career high of 33 in the first 12 minutes. The Sixers were helpless as the 6-foot-8 forward made his 3-point shots with the ease of a pop-a-shot contest. With the building buzzing over Iversons retirement ceremony, Ariza silenced them at stretches with six 3s and 9 of 10 shooting overall, helping the Wizards storm out to a 15-point lead. Wall had the assist on most of those looks and finished the quarter with eight. "What more can you ask than a guy who wants to see you succeed," Ariza said. "I feel like thats what we do here now; we all want to see each other succeed." The fans were mostly distracted by the parade of former greats the Sixers trotted oout for Iversons big night.ddddddddddddThey went wild for Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and former team president Pat Croce. But they came for the global superstar who popularized "talkin about practice." The Sixers may as well have turned the arena into an AI museum. Four banners greeted fans at the main concourse entrance, and photos of him were plastered all around the arena. The merchandise stands sold Iverson jerseys for $130, and lower level tickets were going for as much for $1,280 on Stubhub about an hour before the 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The fans loved him, and he blew them kisses after the No. 3 was raised to show how much he loved them back. "I am Philly," Iverson said. "Its always going to be that way." Wall, who had his 22nd double-double, returned to the court at halftime to record Iversons ceremony. "He was my role model and I looked up to him," he said. "Being a small guard, thats where I took a lot of my game from. This city embraced him and let him be who he was as a person. He always gave his best effort. "I always wanted to grow braids like Iverson. The only thing I didnt have was the tattoos." Iversons return injected a rare dose of excitement into a franchise playing some of the worst basketball in the league. The Sixers, in full-blown rebuilding mode, lost their 12th straight home game. The Wizards made some history as well, scoring a Wells Fargo Center record 74 points in the first half and led by 12. Perhaps fueled by Iversons ceremony, the Sixers went on a 9-0 run in the third to trim the gap to 12 points. It just wasnt enough and the Sixers allowed 100-plus points for the 13th straight game. Tony Wroten led the Sixers with 19 points and Thaddeus Young had 17. Coach Brett Brown didnt hesitate when asked if he wondered if the Sixers would win another game. "All the time," he said. Notes: Arizas previous career best was at Houston on Oct. 31, 2009. ... Trevor Booker had 14 points and Bradley Beal 11, giving the Wizards five starters in double figures. ... Ariza also had four steals. ... Phillies OF Marlon Byrd wore Iversons No. 3 during spring training batting practice. 23:21ET 01-03-14 Cheap Authentic Jerseys Camo China NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Gear Wholesale Jerseys 2019 Wholesale NFL Hoodies Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping ' ' '

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Ninth-ranked Syracuse beat Colgate for the 48th straight time in the series between upstate New York schools, and Orange coach Jim Boeheim seemed OK with another so-so performance by his young team. C.J. Fair scored 20 points and freshman guard Tyler Ennis hit four 3-pointers as the Orange won 69-50 on Saturday. Syracuse (3-0) dominated the glass 52-34, including 26-7 on offence rebounds, its active defence forced 21 turnovers that led to 18 points, and the Orange outscored the Raiders 30-10 inside. "It was a learning experience. We were pretty solid defensively," Boeheim said. "Offensively, we got the ball inside. There were more positive things." And a few negatives, to be sure. Ennis was 4 for 6 from behind the arc for his first 3s of the season, but the rest of his teammates were a paltry 3 for 18 from long range as Colgate focused on sharpshooting Trevor Cooney and Fair. "When youre playing a game like this, youve got to risk something at some point," Colgate coach Matt Langel said. "A little bit of the philosophy was dont let Trevor get going, try and make some other guys shoot the more difficult ones." Cooney, who had a career-high 27 points and hit 7 of 8 3-pointers in the season opener against Cornell, was 1 for 5 on 3s. Fair was 2 of 6 from behind the line against the Raiders. "They were coming out on Trevor and C.J., so I was wide open," said Ennis, who didnt have an assist and committed two turnovers in 21 minutes. "Im comfortable shooting the 3." The Orange also were 12 of 28 (42.9 per cent) from the foul line. "We cant miss free throws and layups," Boeheim said. "We got a lot of good looks from the 3-point line. Weve got to shoot it better." Syracuse leads Colgate 121-45 overall in the longest-running series for both teams. Colgate (0-2) was coming off an 89-78 road loss to Wake Forest last week in the Raiders season opener. Michael Gbinije had 11 points in 18 minutes and Cooney scored 10 for the Orange. Colgate led for much of its first game of the season and had six players score in double figures. It also led the Orange in the early going before Syracuse used its superior athleticism to take control. Ethan Jacobs topped Colgate with 13 points and Austin Tillotson, a transfer from Monmouth who had 14 points and nine assists against Wake Forest, finished with nine points and four assists. Syracuse failed to put together two straight consistent halves in winning its first two games against Cornell and Fordham. The Orange dominated the second half against the Big Red after trailing by 14 in the first and pounced on the Rams in the first half Friday night to gain a 25-point halftime lead and won by 15. They were a little more consistent this time but still shot just 36.8 per cent -- a tick better than the Raiders. Fair scored 11 of Syracuses first 13 points, but the Orange still trailed midway through the first half as the Raiders excelled from beyond the arc and reeled off nine straight points, smoothly passing the ball around until somebody was open. "I thought offensively we moved it well," Jacobs said. "We needed to get it into the zone more. I think we got some good shots at times." Pat Moore, who sank 5 of 6 from beyond the arc against Wake Forest, made his first two long-range attempts against Syracuse and the 6-foot-11 Jacobs hit another for a 15-11 lead. The Orange missed six of their first seven free throws. Fair hit five of his first nine shots while the rest of his teammates were 2 for 11. A follow by Fair and a floater in the lane by Gbinije tied it at 15 and sent the Orange on a 15-0 spurt that was keyed by a pressing defence. Consecutive 3-pointers by Fair and Cooney also played an important role in the spurt. "Theyre more athletic, theyre longer, theyre bigger and they can force you into that," Langel said. "We practiced against seven guys in the press and its still not the same." The Raiders trailed just 36-26 at the break due in part to Syracuses 9-for-20 start from the free-throw line. Fair scored twice inside and Ennis hit two more 3-pointers to start the second half, boosting the Orange lead to 46-31 with 16:19 left. Cooney then stole the ball and threw down a resounding two-hand slam dunk over Murphy Burnatowski after a court-long dash. The Raiders rallied to 51-40 midway through the period behind a pair of 3-pointers by Tillotson and another from Damon Sherman-Newsome. Syracuse responded with a 10-1 rush to seal the triumph. "The press helped get us going," said Fair, whos averaging 21.6 points. "Free throws are not a concern, but we have to be more consistent." Trent Alexander-Arnold Jersey . LIVERPOOL, England -- Everton ensured a miserable return to Goodison Park for former manager David Moyes by overwhelming Manchester United in a 2-0 win to keep pace with Arsenal in the race for Champions League qualification on Sunday. First-half goals by Leighton Baines -- from the penalty spot -- and Kevin Mirallas kept Everton one point behind fourth-place Arsenal with three games left, and guaranteed United wont be playing in Europes top competition next season. "I think everybody knows that we are on track to make changes and do some different things," Moyes said on another disappointing day in his first season in charge at United. "We are rebuilding." Languishing in seventh position, six points behind sixth-place Tottenham, United may not even qualify for the Europa League -- an indication of the deposed champions decline since winning the Premier League last year by 11 points. Moyes left Everton after 11 years to take charge of United. But while his first season at Old Trafford has been extremely disappointing, Moyes replacement at Everton -- Roberto Martinez -- has been widely praised for guiding the Merseyside team to its best haul of points in Premier League history already. Everton, which has achieved the double over United for the first time since the 1969-70 season, played much the better football here and still has a great chance to qualify for the Champions Leagues qualification round -- something Moyes achieved only once. "I thought we were devastating on the counter attack," said Martinez, who revealed that his game plan was to let United have the most of the possession. "If anything, we should have scored more." A flurry of boos greeted Moyes as he emerged from Uniteds team bus before the game and then from the tunnel prior to kickoff, with many home fans unhappy at the circumstances surrounding his departure to Old Trafford and also his attempts at poaching Baines and Marouane Fellaini from Everton over the summer. Fellaini ended up moving for 27.5 million pounds ($43 million) on deadline day in September -- he was an unused substitute here -- but Baines stayed at Everton and showed Moyes just what he is missing by having an excellent game and driving home a 28th-minute penalty to open the scoring after Phil Jones handled Romelu Lukakus shot. With Mirallas running beyond a wide-open defence to add a second from Seamus Colemans pass in the 43rd minute, it amounted to an uncomfortable first 45 minutes for Moyes, who was sat near a spectator dressed as the Grim Reaper and waving an imitation scythe in Moyes direction. The spectator was escorted out of the stands midway through the first half. The margin of defeat could have been a whole lot bigger for United, whose left side of fullback Alex Buttner and midfielder Shinji Kagawa in particular was over-run by the marauding Mirallas and Coleman. Steven Naismith wasted great chances in either half and David de Gea pushed aside a curler from Lukaku. Moyes said he "couldnt fault" how United played, adding: "We need to try and get rid of the bad things and do better with the things we should have done." Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was called into action just twice, saving from Jonny Evans and Wayne Rooney. The frustrations of Rooney, Uniteds captain for the day against his boyhood club, were highlighted by a reckless challenge on Evertons James McCarthy that was fortunate to escape a booking. ST. LOUIS -- Now it starts to get intense for Michael Sam and the rest of the St. Louis Rams rookies. The first openly gay player drafted in the NFL is enthusiastic about the challenge. Twice on Tuesday, he mentioned how enjoyable it was being back on the field and trading wisecracks with teammates. "Im so excited to be back with the guys," Sam said. "Footballs fun." Sam hopes there will be less attention about his sexual orientation, but added his focus has to be on making the team. He said hes in the best shape of his life, dropping 13 pounds in the month since the last OTA workout, weighing in at 257 pounds. "Feeling great," he said. "Its just where I want to be speed-wise, so I can run fast and make plays. I want to be as fast as I can." Sam declined to offer specifics about his 40-yard dash time, adding "Im not worried about the combine." He didnt have much to say about his experience at the ESPYS, where he received the Arthur Ashe Courage award. Sam got a hug from the Hall of Famer Jim Brown on his way to the stage, and teared up throughout his speech faltered at times. "You know, it was a great award and I had a great time in LA," Sam said. "But thats over and Im focusing on football now." Just as they did after the draft and during OTAs, teammates didnt seem to care that Sam was gay. Offensive lineman Demetrius Rhaney, taken the pick after the Rams created a stir by selecting Sam, had only compliments. "Hes a football player, hes not a bother," Rhaney said. "Hes laid-back, funny, jokes a lot. Pretty good." Quarterback Garrett Gilbert, drafted in the sixth round out of Southern Methodist, said there was plenty on his plate without worrying about Sam. Gilbert said this will be the seventh offence hes had to learn in eight seasons counting high school and college. "When Mike got drafted he became part of our team, and thats what he is," Gilbert said. "Were both here competing, our jobs arent guaranteed. "He as well as the other guys in our rookie class are members of this family." Coach Jeff Fisher will address the media for the first time on Friday after the first full-squad workout. Sam knows he must improve across the board to make the team. The Rams already had one of the best pass rushes in the NFL, with stars Robert Quinn and Chris Long at the ends, before taking Sam in the seventh round. Long was among those observing on Tuesday. "Its not college anymore," Sam said. "Thats childs play compared to this." A little more than two dozen newcomers participated indoors. Sam thought it felt much like another OTA, but noted no one had pads on yet. On Day 1 his biggest concern was mastering nuances of playing right end. He was the SEC co-defensive player of the year at Missouri rushing from the left side. "I thought I did pretty good," he said. "Not totally satisfied because I havent been on the right side in a few years." At times, Sam had to try and get past Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick of the draft who played a little tackle on Tuesday. Robinson, wholl begin his NFL career at guard, left the first workout feeling pretty good. "It was definitely a positive feeling to have a jump start on camp," Robinson said. "I was kind of familiar with a lot of the plays that we went over today and it helped with the speed of the game. "It helped me play a little faster." Virgil van Dijk Liverpool Jersey . The gifted five-year-old was hot favourite to bring home the double in the big race at Ascot on Saturday, but he will not run because of a respiratory infection.Varian told The Daily Telegraph: Its heartbreaking, particularly when you ask yourself how many times you might train the odds-on favourite for a King George. But, as bad as we feel and as disappointed as we are, its only a fraction of the disappointment we would have felt on Saturday if he had run like half the horse. Its like humans. You can feel all right with a lung infection until your lungs start burning, then you can forget it. Its the right decision. If you run them when they are sick, they take longer to recover. The decision was easier because I have such an understannding owner (Sheikh Mohammed Obaid).ddddddddddddIts disappointing for the race and the public. I was at an event (on Tuesday) telling everyone how happy I was with the horse and, not even 24 hours later, Im not so happy with him.Thats horses, Im afraid.Postponed could still run in the Juddmonte International at York next month, after which the Prix de lArc de Triomphe at Chantilly and the Breeders Cup in America are under consideration in the autumn. VANCOUVER - After making a big splash on Day 1 of free agency by signing Ryan Miller, the Vancouver Canucks took some time to gain some organizational depth with three smaller deals. The Canucks signed centres Dustin Jeffrey and Cal OReilly and defenceman Bobby Sanguinetti but did not announce the term of any of those contracts. Jeffrey most recently played 24 games with the Dallas Stars after 100 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has 17 goals and 14 assists in his NHL career. OReilly spent the 2013-14 season with Vancouvers AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, after playing a year in the KHL. In 113 games with the Nashville Predators, Arizona Coyotes and Penguins, he has 13 goals and 28 assists. Sanguinetti, a first-round pick at 21st overall in 2006, is perhaps best known for being drafted just ahead of Claude Giroux. The big defenceman played only five games for the New York Rangers and has spent the bulk of his career with the Carolina Hurricanes. Sanguinetti spent last season in the KHL. This years combines will held in Edmonton on March 17, Montreal on March 19, and Toronto on March 20. The national CFL combine is set for March 21-23 in Toronto. "The league introduced the regional combines last season in order to provide more players opportunities to work out in front of scouts and coaches," said Kevin McDonald, the CFLs vice-president of football operations. "And the results and feedback were very positive." The CFL also announced it has adjusted the invitation process. The top 40 players eligible for the CFL draft on May 13, as ranked by the teams and league office, are invited to attend the national combine. The league, with input from all teams, will then invite additional players from the regional combines based on performance. Theres no minimum or maximum number of players required tto be invited to the national combine, but the expectation is that six to 12 players will be extended an invitation.dddddddddddd "This year we have initially invited fewer players to the national combine to provide us with more flexibility to invite players who perform well at the regional combines," McDonald said. "Last years regional combines added three excellent players to the national combine roster, and they all went on to be selected in the first four rounds of the CFL Draft." Those players were Concordia defensive back Kristopher Robertson, who was selected in the second round (11th overall) by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers; Jermaine Gabriel, a defensive back from the CJFLs Calgary Colts, who went in the second round (17th overall) to the Toronto Argonauts; and Michael Klassen, a defensive lineman from the University of Calgary, who was taken in the fourth round (32nd overall) by the Montreal Alouettes.
