Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Blues have activated goaltender Brian Elliott off injured reserve. Elliott had missed 14 games with a lower body injury he sustained during a Nov. 25 game against Ottawa. He will enter Tuesdays game against Nashville with a record of 8-4-1 and a 1.82 goals-against average. The Blues now have three NHL-caliber goaltenders, with Jake Allen and Martin Brodeur also on the roster. Brodeur signed with St. Louis in early December to help fill the void during Elliotts absence. The former New Jersey Devils star has appeared in six games and is 3-2-0 with a 2.63 GAA and one shutout for the Blues. He blanked Colorado on Monday for his 125th career shutout. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong had indicated that the club would keep all three goaltenders until Elliott proves he is fully ready to resume a normal workload. The Blues also placed forward Chris Porter on injured reserve because of a leg injury he sustained during Mondays game against Colorado. Lucas Vazquez Real Madrid Jersey . Franchitti also fractured two vertebrae in his spine and received a concussion. He had surgery on the ankle Sunday night and remained in the hospital afterward. Franchitti is expected to return to Indianapolis on Wednesday and have a second surgery on his ankle. "Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes. They mean a lot to me," Franchitti said in a statement from Target Chip Ganassi Racing. " I would also like to send my best to all the fans involved in the accident and hope that everyone is all right." Thirteen fans and an IndyCar official were injured by debris that flew into the grandstand. Two people were taken to the hospital; Tony Kanaan tweeted a picture of himself and fellow driver Scott Dixon visiting one of the fans and wrote: "Glad to see everybody is ok." The accident occurred when Franchitti ran into the back of Takuma Satos car and launched over it and into the fence. Sato appeared to have a problem with his car and was limping toward the finish when Franchitti came up quickly behind him in Turn 5. The force of the crash tore apart a section of the fence and showered debris into the grandstand, which had a second fence in front of the fans. Franchittis car ricocheted back onto the track and spun several times before coming to a stop. E.J. Viso hit Satos car as he came upon the accident scene, and the three wrecked cars and broken parts and pieces clogged the race course. IndyCar threw the yellow flag, ending the race under caution, but drivers still had to navigate their way through the wreckage on their way back to pit road.dddddddddddd It created a scene reminiscent of Dan Wheldons fatal 2011 crash at Las Vegas, where competitors also had to drive past Wheldons car and through the debris. It was a sobering moment for race winner Will Power, who broke his back in the Las Vegas crash, and for Dixon, Franchittis teammate. Dixon took control of the IndyCar championship race on Sunday but passed by teammate Franchittis car and waved in an attempt to get an update on his condition. Power watched replays of the accident on the big screen, and said the accident reminded him of Las Vegas, where he and Wheldon both sailed into the fence. "I just saw Darios car and him sitting in it with a lot of damage, and yes, thats what it reminded me of," said Power. "I hate seeing that. We try to keep these cars on the ground." The accident ended a weekend that saw Dixon move into the points lead following mechanical failures for Helio Castroneves on consecutive days. Castroneves came to Houston with a 49-point lead over Dixon. But a gearbox problem Saturday when Dixon won allowed Dixon to pull within eight points. Then his gearbox broke on Sunday, and Dixon now has a 25-point lead in the standings and needs only to finish fifth or better in the Oct. 19 finale in California to win his third IndyCar title. "Its still going to come down to the wire," he said. "Its still going to be the last lap, last corner kind of situation. At least I hope that it ends that way." The last time the Canadian and American mens hockey teams met at the Olympics, Sidney Crosbys golden goal electrified the entire country. This time, the two nations meet not for the gold medal, but for a chance at it. Listen on TSN Radio as Canada takes on the United States in the semifinals at 11:30am et/8:30am pt. For Canada, the semifinal offers another chance for their talented forward corps to break out of their goal-scoring funk. Of the 13 goals Canada has scored at the 2014 Games, only six have come from their forwards. Jeff Carter of the Los Angeles Kings remains the only Canadian forward to have scored multiple goals in Sochi, having notched a natural hat trick against Austria in the preliminary round. The United States, meanwhile, has seen their offence click on all cylinders – scoring a tournament-high 20 goals through the quarter-final round. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel leads all Olympians with eight points and five goals through four games. He and his linemates – San Jose Sharks centre Joe Pavelski and his Toronto teammate James van Riemsdyk – have combined for 18 points so far at the tournament. The American attack has been the opposite of the Canadians thus far at the Games, with all but three of their goals coming from their forward ranks. While the Americans are expected to ice the same lineup they have employed throughout the Games thus far, injuries have necessitated a change up front for the Canadians. New York Islanders captain John Tavares suffered a knee injury that put an end to his NHL season in Canadas quarterfinal game against Latvia. He will be replaced up front by Matt Duchene. Canadas Carey Price goes into the game with a .941 save precentage while Jonathan Quick is not far behind at .935. Canada has won three of their four meetings with the United States since the NHL began full Olympic participation in 1998. The United States only win came in the preliminary round of the 2010 Games. Both teams enter the semifinals at the Sochi Olympics with unbeaten records after finishing atop their respective qualifying groups. Both teams, however, have been pushed to the limit at least once by their opposition. T.J. Oshie earned his Sochi celebrity by carrying the U.S. to a shootout win over Russia in the preliminary round. Canada, meanwhile, needed overtime to beat Finland in their Group B matchup. The winner of the Canada-U.S. matchup will meet the winner of Fridays other semifinal between Sweden and Finland in Sundays gold medal game. Saints Jerseys . CARSON, Calif. -- Chad Barrett scored in the 88th minute to lift the New England Revolution to a 1-1 draw with Chivas USA on Saturday night. New England (5-5-6) pressured and got its equalizer just two minutes from the end as Barrett, who used to play his home games here with the Los Angeles Galaxy, was on the end of a cross from Diego Fagundez. The ball deflected off Barrett and defender Carlos Borja and crossed the goal line before it was cleared off as assistant referee Jeff Hosking signalled for a goal. Laurent Courtois opened the scoring for Chivas (3-10-3) in the 18th minute. Tristan Bowen settled a ball just inside the penalty area and fed Courtois, who quickly fired a left-footed shot that appeared to deflect off Revolution defender Chris Tierney and over goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth. Barretts late goal extended Chivas winless skid to 11 matches. Eagles Jerseys . -- Oakland Athletics starting pitchers Jarrod Parker and A. Against everyone else, not so much. Zack Greinke threw eight sharp innings, Yasiel Puig and Scott Van Slyke homered and the Dodgers added to their mastery of the Diamondbacks with a 7-0 victory on Friday night. Los Angeles improved to 8-1 against Arizona this season, and the Dodgers are 15-19 against everybody else. "They have outplayed us, outpitched us," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "The guy that beat us tonight has his best stuff going this year." Dodgers manager Don Mattingly downplayed the dominance. "Theres teams you hit well as a player, you pitch good against," he said. "This is one of those teams we played well against this year. Hopefully that continues." Greinke (7-1), in his longest outing of the season, allowed two or fewer runs for the 21st consecutive game, the longest such streak in the majors since at least 1914. Asked how much he thinks about that he said, "not much, actually" "Its not like one of the more important streaks," Greinke said. "Its not a real big deal." He gave up five hits, struck out six, walked two and had an RBI double. "I forgot how fun it is to catch him," said A.J. Ellis, just back from the disabled list. Puig had three hits and drove in two runs. He and Van Slyke hit solo homers off Wade Miley (3-4) as the Diamondbacks fell to 4-16 at Chase Field. Van Slyke does to Miley what the Dodgers do to the Diamondbacks. He is 7 for 16 in his career against the left-hander with four home runs, three this year. Puig, who fell a triple shy of the cycle, extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games. "Im trying to get hits and put a swing on good pitches," Puig said to reporters in Spanish. "I wasnt worried hitting for the cycle or anything like that." Mattingly said Puig "is getting better all the time and hes getting closer to being that player that has a chance to make a huge impact.dddddddddddd." Brian Wilson, who entered the game with a 10.22 ERA, pitched the ninth to complete the shutout. The Diamondbacks have not led in any of their six home games against Los Angeles, two of them in Sydney, Australia, to open the season. Miley gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. Puig got the Dodgers going with a drive into the right-field seats on a 2-2 pitch from Miley with one out in third. It was his eighth home run of the season. The bottom of the Los Angeles order accounted for two runs in the fourth. Van Slyke led off with a double, then scored on Ellis single. Greinke followed with an RBI double to the gap in left-centre. They were the first RBIs of the season for Ellis and Greinke. Van Slyke hit Mileys first pitch in the sixth high off the batters eye in centre field, far above the 407-foot sign and it was 4-0. Los Angeles got two runs off reliever Randall Delgado in the seventh. Puig singled and scored when Hanley Ramirez doubled. Matt Kemp brought Ramirez home with a fielders choice. The Dodgers added an unearned run in the eighth when shortstop Chris Owings, trying to nab speedy Dee Gordon for a double play, threw the ball 10 rows into the seats above the Los Angeles dugout. Gordon scored from first on Puigs double. In the ninth, umpire Quinn Wolcott ruled that Miguel Montero had beaten out an infield hit but the Dodgers challenged and the call was reversed on review. NOTES: The Dodgers have won 15 of the last 19 games against the Diamondbacks. ... Puig has 33 RBIs. ... Miley has allowed 10 home runs, most of any Arizona starter. ... The Diamondbacks Paul Goldschmidt struck out three times. ... Arizonas 17-year-old minor league pitcher Argeny Hiciano has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for a banned substance. ... The Dodgers send LHP Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 1.74 ERA) to the mound Saturday, while Arizonas Chase Anderson (1-0, 1.69) makes his second major league start, first at home. CLEVELAND -- With his team in trouble, DeMar DeRozan flashed his All-Star form at the finish. DeRozan scored 16 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter, and the Toronto Raptors won for the sixth time in seven games with a 99-93 victory over the injury-riddled Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night. "DeMar was huge down the stretch," Toronto coach Dwane Casey said. "He made shots, he made plays, he made some free throws." DeRozan also made a key defensive play with the Raptors leading 94-91 and 32 seconds remaining. He stole a pass from Spencer Hawes by knocking Tyler Zeller to the floor and then made two free throws for a five-point lead. "I dont have too many of those left in me," DeRozan said of the hard hit. "I kind of anticipated that." Terrence Ross hit a 3-pointer with 3:02 remaining to put Toronto ahead 90-89. DeRozan dunked on a baseline drive and added two free throws to give the Raptors a 94-91 lead with 1:23 remaining. Kyrie Irving, who played 45 minutes and the entire second half because of Clevelands depleted roster, scored 25 points and had nine assists. Cleveland has lost three straight after winning six in a row and fell 5 1/2 games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Irving had no problem with coach Mike Browns decision to leave him in the game. "I told Coach Im willing to do whatever it takes for us to get a win," Irving said after playing a career high in a 48-minute game. The Cavaliers again played without centre Anderson Varejao (sore back) and guards Dion Waiters (hyperextended left knee) and C.J. Miles (sprained left ankle). Ross scored 19 points while Greivis Vasquez added 15 for the Raptors, who beat the Cavaliers 98-91 in Toronto on Friday and have won three in a row. Toronto leads the Atlantic Division and is in third place in the Eastern Conference. Hawes, making his first start for Cleveland since being acquired from Philadelphia last week, scored 15 points. Cleveland took its last lead at 89-87 with 3:11 to play on Zellers two free throws, but Ross 3-pointer put Toronto ahead for good. Irving, the MVP of the All-Star game, was called for charging into Kyle Lowry in the final minute. The call was upheld after officials viewed a replay. Irving was bumped on his way to the basket on Clevelands next possession but no call was made. "Its part of the game," he said of the officiating. "The refs are going to make their call. Thats their job. You move on to the next play and the next game. Im going to pick myself up and get ready for Oklahoma City (Wednesday night)." The Raptors went on a 15-0 run over a span of 6:46 in the first and second quarters to take a 14-point lead, but Casey was displeased his team let the Cavaliers get back in the game. "Were nowhere near where we can walk in a game and expect to win," he said. "All of our games are grind it out. Were going to see everyones best haymaker. They threw their best haymaker at us, they played desperate. Give credit to them." The early offensive struggles were a major reason Brown didnt take Irving out in the second half. "When I pulled him in the first half we had a little trouble scoring," Brown said. "I thought he was in a little bit of a groove. Hes our best player so I wanted to leave him on the floor and see if he could help the second unit generate some easy baskets." Toronto had a five-point possession in the second quarter that began when Vasquez hit a 3-pointer. Hawes was called for a foul when he and Tyler Hansbrough went to the floor. Hawes was then given a technical for arguing the call, and DeRozan and Hansbrough each made a free throw. Hansbrough completed another three-point play after DeRozans basket. Jarrett Jack was called for a foul after Hansbrough was knocked to the floor. Jack was also hit with a technical. Toronto built a 36-22 lead but Cleveland cut the margin to 47-41 at halftime and scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a one-point lead. NOTES: Brown said it was unlikely that Varejao, Waiters and Miles would make the trip to Oklahoma City. Varejao has missed the last seven games while Waiters has been out four straight and Miles three in a row. Brown said Varejao and Waiters have begun some on-court work. ... Raptors C Jonas Valanciunas had two points in 17 minutes and played only seven minutes in the second half. ... Zeller started the first six games Varejao missed. Frank Vatrano Jersey . Seven NHL referees and six linesmen will be assigned upcoming games in Sochi by the IIHF as part of their 28-man officiating roster comprised of 14 refs and 14 linesmen.COLLINGWOOD, Ont. a€“ All signs point to the Maple Leafs having their top offseason acquisition in the lineup on opening night. Stephane Robidas, who broke his right leg for the second time in a matter of months in April, told TSN.ca that he expects to be ready when Toronto hosts Montreal a week from now in the season opener. The 37-year-old will participate in his first exhibition game on Friday. Yeah, I think so, he said of playing against the team that drafted him on Oct. 8th. I feel great on the ice. The plan is to play the game Friday against Detroit and after that weve got a few more practices with the team. I expect to be ready for that first game. Robidas has spent nine of the past 10 months rehabbing his right leg, which he broke twice in two separate places for two different teams in two separate games last season. It was an unbelievably wretched set of luck for a player with 885 games of NHL experience. The first injury occurred at the end of November in a home game against Chicago. Defending Jonathan Toews as he hovered dangerously on a Blackhawks power-play, Robidass right leg gave out from under him as he slid helplessly into the end boards on what proved to be his final shift with the Stars, with whom he had spent 11 seasons. Robidas was wheeled off the American Airlines Center ice for what would be the first of two times that season. Dealt to Anaheim on Mar. 4th, Robidas made his Ducks debut exactly two weeks later. On the 10th shift of his 17th game with the club - a playoff game against his former team no less - Robidas went for a loose puck just outside the Anaheim crease and was undercut by former teammate, Ryan Garbutt. It was the same right knee a€“ albeit just above the last fracture a€“ hed broken more than three months earlier. When it happened I didnt really know what to say, Robidas said from the Leafs team-building experience in Colllingwood, which is located about two hours north of Toronto. Theres things you control and theres other things that you dont control and thats one of those that I had no control over that. I did the proper rehab, I did everything I had to do and it was just an aaccident.dddddddddddd. Inked to a three-year deal with Toronto on July 1st, Robidas spent the offseason months working through a familiar recovery process. However frustrating, painful and bothersome, the first rehab experience left him better prepared for the months of work that lied ahead this past summer. And unlike that first injury, Robidas wasnt on any hurried clock for return this time around. After the first break at the outset of winter, he was racing back for a hopeful Stars playoff berth - which eventually became a union with the wests top team in Anaheim. I think mentally knowing exactly what I was going to go through it was a lot easier, he said of the process, which took more than five months, considerably longer than the first go of it. Though confident in his ability to play this season, the Leafs werent sure, previously, that Robidas would be ready when the year opened against Montreal. Dave Nonis, the teams general manager, said he was hopeful when training camp opening in mid-September. It still remains to be seen how rusty hell be upon his return, but Robidas will at least have the benefit of a weeks worth of practice and that final exhibition game on Friday. Thats a big deal for a player who was markedly behind the furious pace of a playoff chase when he returned in mid-March last season. At least you get a game, he said. Whenever I came back [last time] that first game was really fast. We played Washington in Anaheim and it was like whoa. Everything was so fast. Everything was so fast. By the second game I was already more [comfortable]. It took me a good five or six games before I could say I started feeling really good. But just by the second game I felt like a big difference. Robidass availability for the opener is also a big deal for the Leafs, who lost Cody Franson to a bruised left knee over the weekend. Franson suffered no structural damage on a scary play that saw Torrey Mitchell shove him into the end-boards, but the team has no timeline yet for his return and he was walking with a notable limp on Wednesday. Robidas is likely to play alongside Dion Phaneuf on the teams top pair. MINNEAPOLIS -- Texas closer Joakim Soria bobbled a slow-bouncing ball hit by Minnesotas Danny Santana to the left of the mound with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth inning, allowing the winning run to score in the Twins 4-3 victory over the Rangers on Tuesday night. The day began ominously for the Rangers when star pitcher Yu Darvish was scratched from his scheduled start with stiffness in his neck. Fill-in Scott Baker gave up three hits over six innings and Chris Gimenez hit a tiebreaking two-out RBI single in the sixth off Phil Hughes. But Soria (1-2) took his first blown save in nine chances with a shaky ninth inning patched together by the Twins, who ended their four-game losing streak. Oswaldo Arcia hit a one-out double off the wall in right-centre, just a few feet shy of where he homered off Baker in the second inning, and Eduardo Nunez tied the game with a two-out single. Then Nunez kept the rally alive with some nifty running. He moved up on the throw home that was up the line by right fielder Alex Rios. On a fielders choice grounder to Adrian Beltre, Nunez stopped short of the third basemans glove, scooted right and circled around to the bag before the tag. Then he scored the winning run when Santana ended the game with the softest of contact. Glen Perkins (2-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the victory, stranding Rios after a leadoff triple that Santana, normally a shortstop, appeared to misplay in centre field and couldnt catch after getting twisted around. Hughes had his winning streak stopped at five. Over his last five turns, he had a 1.08 ERA and a 27-0 strikeout-walk ratio. Aaron Hicks saved Hughes from a huge deficit by sprinting to the warning track and snagging the ball with a perfectly timed leap above and beyond the centre field wall to steal a three-run homer from Donnie Murphy, who settled for a sacrifice fly. Rougned Odor followed with an RBI double to get one of those runs back. Shortstop Eduardo Escobar and left fielder Josh Willingham let a ball by Mitch Moreland bounce between them for a single to start the sixth. After giving up six runs in six innings in his only other start this season, last Friday at Detroit, Baker was supposed to resume a role as a long reliever. But he was in control the entire night. Baker was a second-round draft pick by the Twins in 2003 who spent five years in their rotation, including a 15-win season in 2009, but he developed elbow trouble and needed Tommy John ligament replacement surgery in 2012. So the last three years for the right-hander have been all about rehabilitation and re-establishing his place in the majors. The Rangers, who picked up Baker at the end of spring training, are his third team in two seasons. This was a stellar performance for him, even if hes bound to return to the bullpen soon. Baker didnt allow a walk and struck out four. He surrendered an RBI double to Joe Mauer with two outs in the third before retiring the last 10 batters he faced. NOTES: Rangers manager Ron Washington passed Bobby Valentine on the franchises all-time list for most games managed with 1,187. ... The Rangers will reinstate LHP Joe Saunders (0-1, 9.82) from the DL to start on Wednesday night, with RHP Kyle Gibson (4-4, 4.68 ERA) pitching for the Twins. ... Saunders was hit by a line drive on the left ankle in his first start on April 4, and after nearly two months of rehabilitation he will pitch with no restriction, Washington said. "The Minnesota Twins are going to tell us how limited hes going to be," he said. ... Gibson is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four starts this year at home. ... Twins assistant GM Rob Antony said OF Sam Fuld, on the DL since May 8 due to concussion symptoms, has yet to resume on-field workouts, still lacking the three straight symptom-free days required for clearance. It was a beautiful city and great place to live but didnt seem like much of a sports town as Pittsburgh was. From what Id heard its a transplant city where people come from all over to work there. This showed during games as out crowds were smaller and when playing certain teams there teams fans came out and were so loud when they scored. Its too bad hockey didnt work there. Great place live and play if the support and hockey had been better.Whats your fondest memory of Atlanta? My fondest memory would have to be getting married there. It was a great time and major hot out. Also both my kids were born there which is pretty cool also. We have a few pretty good friends who are local to Atlanta that we remain close with to this day. On the hockey side of things I had a 22-goal season which as a player is a pretty special thing. Felt like I scored every game I couldnt imagine being Stamkos and what that would feel like. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Matias Dominguez of Chile birdied his last three holes Saturday for a 3-under 69, giving him a one-shot lead in the inaugural Latin American Amateur and leaving him one round away from a chance to play in the Masters.Dominguez, a senior at Texas Tech, finished at 10-under 206 at Pilar Golf Cub and was one stroke ahead of 18-year-old Alejandro Tosti of Argentina, who shot 68.The winner of the Latin American Amateur gets a spot at Augusta National in April, along with the U.S. Amateur and British Amateur. He also is exempt into the final stage of qualifying for the U.S. Open and British Open.Chile has not had a player in the Masters in more than 50 years. Enrique Orellana missed the cut in 1964.Juan Sebastian Munoz of Colombia (71) and Joaquin Bonjour of Argentina (73) were four shots behind at 210. Andre Tourinho of Brazil, the 36-hole leader, took a triple bogey on the par-4 15th hole and shot 75. He was five strokes behind. Its been a while since Ive led a tournament, Dominguez said. Im used to coming from the back. I will just try to stay in the present and go shot-by-shot.The stakes are high on Sunday with a Masters bid on the line. The Latin America Amateur is patterned after the Asia-Pacific Amateur, which began five years ago and produced a two-time winner in Hideki Matsuyama, who made the cut both times at Augusta as an amateur.Tosti plans to enrol at Florida later this month. He thought his 68 could have been better except for missing three short putts. But hes in good shape for Sunday and knows Pilar better than most. He trains at the Argentine Golf Associations performance centre at Pilar.I know Im playing really well, and its a really good position, Tosti said. With all my experience playing here, I think I have an advantage. Steven Stamkos Lightning Jersey .Y. -- AJ Allmendingers journey is almost complete. Ryan Callahan Lightning Jersey . When Hockey Canada needed a coach for its womens hockey team less than two months before the Sochi Olympics, Kevin Dineen stepped up. Not long after he won gold, the phone rang again for a job leading the under-18 mens team. "One call to him at the under-18 level, he just said yes right away," Hockey Canadas Scott Salmond said. On Monday, Dineen began the next chapter of his coaching career as he was named as an assistant on Joel Quennevilles staff with the Chicago Blackhawks. "He doesnt care if hes coaching women or men or kids or what it is. Hes a coach, and thats what he loves to do," Salmond said in a phone interview. "To me, great coaches like challenges and they want to coach, they want to be busy, they want to work and Kevins a great example of that. It wasnt a surprise to me that someone in an organization like Chicago would recognize that and his value and what hell bring there." The Toronto native will return to the NHL less than a year after being fired as head coach of the Florida Panthers, armed with plenty of international experience. Salmond, Hockey Canadas senior director of hockey operations and national teams, enjoyed how much energy and passion Dineen put into his work with the national womens and under-18 mens teams, even though he had no previous connection to either. "I think that the players realized right away that he cares," Salmond said. "He really cares about them. And one thing he talked about with the under-18s the whole time was just trying to make them better and trying to have them leave with something. And yeah we wanted to have team success, but if they could gain something from the experience, then that was great." From those experiences, Salmond expects Dineen to be an even stronger coach as he returns to dealing with professionals with the Blackhawks. "I know he spent a lot of time one-on-one both with the women and the men and communicating with them and sharing ideas and having them buy in and share their ideas as well," Salmond said. "The communication side, I think, is huge. Good coaches have that, and certainly its a strength for him." Dineen conceded in Sochi that he was learning on the fly how to communicate differently with women than he did men in previous jobs, joking that he wasnt using the F-word nearly as much. He was not made available by the Blackhawks, who have a policy of not allowing assistant coaches to speak to reporters. Dineen wrote on Twitter that he was "excited about the opportunity to work with this group of people.dddddddddddd World class players and organization." The 50-year-old replaces Jamie Kompon, who became general manager and coach of the WHLs Portland Winterhawks, filling the void left by Mike Johnston when he took the head-coaching job in Pittsburgh. "I am thrilled to join Joel Quenneville, a future hall of fame coach, and (assistant) Mike Kitchen, as we strive to reach the ultimate goal in professional hockey," Dineen said in a statement released by the Blackhawks. "The measure of success is very high in Chicago. I look forward to supporting the coaching staff and working with some of the best players in the National Hockey League." During his playing days, Dineen spent time as a linemate of Quennevilles with the Hartford Whalers. In total he played 1,188 NHL games, finishing with 355 goals and 405 assists. "Kevin brings proven leadership qualities, having served as an alternate captain and captain for several of his teams during his 19-year NHL career," Chicago general manager Stan Bowman said in a statement. "He will bring another well respected voice to our coaching staff and we look forward to his contributions to our team." Dineen represented Canada in international competition six times as a player, including the 1984 Olympics and 1987 Canada Cup. He only added to his international resume with his most recent international coaching jobs, and Salmond called Dineen "a great friend to Hockey Canada." Salmond credited Dineen for changing "a bit of the culture" with the womens team after taking over for Dan Church, who resigned in December, and capturing the nations attention with the gold-medal run. With the under-18 mens team, which won a bronze medal, Salmond said Dineen did a fantastic job by helping Canada play to a level it hadnt reached in recent years. "I think we are very grateful for what he was able to bring," Salmond said. "Hes obviously a professional, a former professional player and I think he brings that kind of mentality to coaching. He was great for our program, kind of gave us another perspective and helped us with some things both on the womens side and on the mens side that hell leave behind." Dineen coached the AHLs Portland Pirates for six years before taking over the Panthers. Florida made the playoffs in one of his two full seasons behind the bench, and Dineen was fired 16 games into 2013-14. Alexander scored all of his points and grabbed all nine of his rebounds in the final 21:54 of the game. Kansas (16-3, 5-1 Big 12) has won two straight since dropping a road game against Iowa State. The Cyclones, who are in action this afternoon against Texas Tech, also have one conference loss. With seven seconds to go in the extra period, Daxter Miles Jr. hit a go-ahead 3- point shot for the Mountaineers to give them their first lead since regulation, but Trey Zeigler put TCU back on top with a second left. Jevon Carter got behind the defense on the inbounds pass, and after being fouled attempting a layup as time expired, hit a pair of free throws to send West Virginia to the win. Williams pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and Staten handed out 12 assists. Jonathan Holton added 15 points and eight boards for the Mountaineers (16-3, 4-2 Big 12). TCU (14-5, 1-5) received a game-high 22 points from Kyan Anderson, but it was his foul that sent Carter to the line for the winning free throws. Charles Hill Jr. chipped in 13 points, and Kenrich Williams and Amric Fields each contributed 11. Final Score: (21) Baylor 69, (19) Oklahoma 58 Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Lester Medford scored 17 points and dished out five assists to help No. 21 Baylor exact some revenge on slumping Oklahoma with a 69-58 victory over the 19th-ranked Sooners. Oklahoma held Baylor to a 37.3 field goal percentage in the previous meeting, but the Sooners shot just 38.7 percent in Saturdays rematch to fall for the fourth time in five games. Buddy Hield, the Big 12s leading scorer, went 0-for-7 on 3-point tries and 6-of-17 overall to finish with 12 points for Oklahoma (12-7, 3-4). The Sooners managed only a 6-of-24 rate from long distance. Final Score: (22) Dayton 63, Richmond 60 Dayton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Dyshawn Pierre scored 21 points and 22nd- ranked Dayton survived a challenge from Richmond to earn a 63-60 victory in an Atlantic 10 clash. Kendall Pollard added 14 points, including a clutch hook shot with 2:16 remaining that snapped a 55-55 tie. Dayton (16-3, 6-1 A-10) stayed in front the rest of the way to avoid a second straight conference loss and extend its home win streak to 16 games. Richmond (10-9, 3-3) was able to overcome a 37-27 halftime deficit to hold a slim lead with three minutes left, but couldnt hold it down the stretch en route to a 10th consecutive road defeat. T.J. Cline netted 10 of his 14 points in the second half for the Spiders, with Terry Allen, ShawnDre Jones and Alonzo Nelson- Ododa each finishing with 11 points in the loss. Final Score: Purdue 67, (25) Iowa 63 West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rapheal Davis scored a career-high 24 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer in the final minute, and Purdue got a boost from seldom-used wing Basil Smotherman to knock off No. 25 Iowa on Saturday, 67-63. With Kendall Stephens left hand heavily wrapped because of a broken finger, Smotherman saw extended minutes and took advantage, providing 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and pulling down the games two biggest defensive rebounds. Purdue held a two-point lead following Davis 3 with 50 seconds remaining, and Smotherman flew in to grab Mike Gesells missed jumper at the other end. After he split a pair from the foul line, Peter Jok launched a triple and again Smotherman went up high to haul it in. He made 1-of-2 from the line once more, producing the final tally. Purdues center tandem of A.J. Hammons and Isaac Haas added 23 points between them on 9-of-11 from the field. The win snaps a 13-game losing streak against ranked teams for Purdue (12-8, 4-3 Big Ten). Iowa nearly overcame the loss of star forward Aaron White thanks to late heroics by Gesell and a dominant effort on the glass, but ultimately fell short. White, Iowas leading scorer and rebounder, left the game in the first half with a right shoulder stinger. Gesell scored 12 of his 18 points in the games final six minutes, and Gabriel Olaseni pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end. Iowa (13-7, 4-3) had 24 offensive rebounds as a team. Jerome Baker Dolphins Jersey . "But at this point," Nonis said a few hours after the conversation, "I dont think theres a deal there for us." Despite interest in moving up the ladder of the first round – from where they currently stand at eighth overall – Nonis didnt believe the current price-tag fit the bill for his club, particularly if it meant sacrificing young talent. The cost was simply too high. "It is for us," Nonis said of the first overall pick. "It may not be for other teams. I know that Dale is serious about moving it – I think hes happy to keep it as well – but hes not going to give that pick away. "Theres been dialogue, but we havent made any traction and as it stands right now, I would expect that were going to stay at eight." Having hoarded a slew of promising building blocks in recent years (including Aleksander Barkov with the second overall selection in 2013) and with the draft lacking in a consensus, slam-dunk superstar, Tallon is inclined to give up the rights for the top spot. But hes labeled the price for the pick as including a top young player, one who can step right into the Panthers lineup, and perhaps a pick or something of similar value. "Somebody has to knock our socks off for us to make the move," Tallon told TSN recently. In a different draft, Nonis might be prepared to pay that price. He was second in command to Brian Burke at the time of the 2009 draft when Burke spoke openly and aggressively about his pursuit of the first overall pick in a draft that featured star John Tavares. "That price-tag is different than possibly moving up to take the player whos going to go [first] here," Nonis said.dddddddddddd "It doesnt mean that the player who goes [first] is not going to be a great player, but those price-tags are different and I think every team in the league would tell you that. Theres a number or a value that we place on moving up and it wouldnt include our top young players, no." Beyond Aaron Ekblad, theres a definite aura of unpredictability at the top of this draft, making the possibility of the Leafs landing a quality asset at eight all the more likely. Toronto has demonstrated a strong inclination toward selecting North American players in recent years, picking just seven Europeans since 2009 and none in the first round since 2006 when Jiri Tlusty was picked 13th overall. They may not be able to land the top centre theyve long desired with the eighth pick – Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart and Leon Draisaitl all figure to be off the board – but theres potential to add front-line skill at wing, perhaps in the form of Nick Ritchie or Jake Virtanen (Nikolaj Ehlers and William Nylander are both intriguing, but neither seem to fit the current Toronto mold). "This [draft] may not have the superstar at the top, but I think most teams would agree theres some pretty good players in this draft that are going to be useful players on good teams," said Nonis. "Its important when youre picking at eight that you get one of those players." Back in 2008, with Cliff Fletcher minding the helm, Toronto moved up two spots in the draft to land Luke Schenn with the fifth overall pick, sending their first round selection (seventh overall) to the Islanders along with picks in the second and third round. The Leafs selected hulking centre Frederik Gauthier with their top selection a year ago (21st overall), adding Morgan Rielly to their young mix in 2012.
