Last Wednesday, a mob of President Donald Trump’s supporters nearly stormed the House chamber, forcing members of Congress to fear for their own safety. Members and staffers were barricaded into the chamber, and police protected them before eventually evacuating the room, but some observers warn the riots — which left four participants and one police officer dead — came dangerously close to imperiling lawmakers.
One of Congress’ most vocal gun advocates is freshman Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who owns a firearm-themed restaurant in Rifle, Colorado. She drew controversy last week when she vowed in a viral ad to bring her Glock to work. In a statement to Forbes, Boebert promised to follow “all applicable firearm laws and regulations,” but she blasted the decision to place metal detectors outside the House, which she called a “political stunt.”

Boebert has also faced scorn from her colleagues in recent days after appearing to tweet out information on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s whereabouts during the Jan. 6 riots. She insisted in a statement that her tweets were taken out of context.
