Yak And Merino Wool Characteristics Of Fiber: Take Advantage
Wool from sheep can be silky or stiff as well as coarse or silky. lustrous and matte, soft or tough, soften or shrink depending on the breed. Merino sheep wool is usually thought of as the most soft. The high-quality of the fibers are what gives the wool its softness. They're about 18-24 microns thick. (By contrast, cashmere fibers measure around 11-12 microns, while wool from Romney sheep measures 29-36 microns in diameter.) Merino Wool is among the most comfortable yarn for knitting projects. Merino wool's other advantages include good warmth, reasonable durability, decent elasticity, modest luster, no inherent drape, and very easy feltability. Here's a comprehensive description of the fibers used to make knitting yarns.

Characteristics of Fibers
Softness: This is a personal characteristic that is particularly important for clothing that is cold weather.
The term "strength" refers to the ability to resist pulling (tensile) force.
Luster: Is it shiny? Lustrous fibers (silk and adult mohair) usually dye brightly.
Elasticity: Will the yarn/knitted fabric be able to return to its original shape once it's stretched? It is contingent on how hard it is pulled. How far does it stretch?
Drape: How does it hang? Does it flow?
Halo: Some yarns produce an illuminating glow of fibers that diverge from the main yarn.
Knitted fabrics can become stiff with agitation or changes in the temperature of the water. Sometimes the stitches can become obscured. Different fibers will shrink in different ways when felted.

Thermal Properties Of Yak And Merino Wool
Yak and merino wool base layer fabrics are the pinnacle of base layers. Utilizing the natural qualities in yak wool and combining with Merino wool Our base layers give you exceptional warmth, breathability and all-day comfort. The first ever technical yak wool fabric has been developed. It provides outdoor adventurers with unbeatable warmth and temperature regulation. High altitude is the reason yaks have its warm woolly feel. The tough animals have created super-wool to withstand the winter months and cold at altitudes up to 4,000-6,000 meters.

Our warmest base layer 60 percent premium supersoft yak yarn and 40 percent supersoft Merino. These are a top thermals for men blend.

Other Fibers To Consider
Highland wool is generally raised in Peru and is probably derived from Corriedale sheep. It is not quite as soft as merino, however, it is more durable than merino, it's warm and has an excellent elasticity.
Double-coated animals may be covered in delicate undercoats like baby camel , cashmere or yak down. They are soft and silky warm and elastic. They are more elastic than the merino. They can produce a subtle halo to yarns and knitted fabrics. These fibers are found in natural colors of gray and brown, as well as white. They also can block the colors of dyed yarns.

Tussah and Mulberry silk are silks that originate from cocoons of silk-producing moths. Mulberry (or bombyx), silk is very pure. Tussah, however it is a delicate and golden brown. These silks are both strong, extremely lustrous, and very silky. Silk is cool in hot weather and warm in cold temperatures. These silks drape wonderfully because they have an imperceptible elasticity.

Mohair is the hair fiber that comes from Angora goats. The characteristics of mohair depend on the age of the animal. The clips that are first and second have mohair that is kid-friendly. It's the softest. It has a lovely shine and is elastic. It drapes nicely. While it may appear like child mohair, yearling mohair (third- and fourth clips) is more durable and shiny. Adult mohair (from goats older than 2 years old) can be extremely durable and shiny. It's not elastic and is resistant to being felted. Mohair, regardless of its age, is a warm and cozy fiber.

Nylon is a synthetic polymer. It is commonly added to wool yarns in order to improve the strength (and consequently the longevity) of the knitted or yarn. While it does have some elasticity, it does not retain the same amount of moisture as wool.

Superwash Merino. Wool fibers are coated with scales that ensure that the adjacent wool fibers are able to stick together. This feature allows wool yarns to be spun with a relatively low twist. It's also responsible for some of the springiness and feelability of wool yarns. Superwash wools are those that has taken off or covered the wool fibers with scales. Superwash wools might require a little more twist. The resulting knitted fabrics won't have as much elasticity. Superwash wools can be cleaned by machine. They will not feel as soft, and are therefore easy to care for. Superwash merino is often made with nylon for durable and simple cleaning.

Alpaca (huacaya Sari) adds warmth and softness to the knitted fabric. It feels the same as merino wool if it's not better.
Angora (from Angora Rabbits) is amazing It's soft and warm. It is incredibly light and produces a distinctive appearance.
It is extremely flexible and cool. Merinocotton blends are among my top sweaters. Equally, these yarns make items that are perfect for fall and spring garments.

How To Pick The Right Thermal Clothes
Whether you're looking for the best ski base layer or for any other outdoor activity at altitude. We have found that the yak and merino fibre thermal blend is most versatile and comfortable but here are some additional suggestions for picking the appropriate type of thermals for men and thermals for women.

1. Your Movement Is Free From Restraint
While thermal clothing must be fitted with skin to the body, they should not restrict movement. A good thermal will actually help you move by keeping warm air in and making sure your body is not exposed to injuries from blasts of cold air.

2. Check For Smoothness
If you buy thermals, for both genders be sure the material is soft to the skin and has flat, well-crafted seams. This will prevent you from making an error. Fabric that is rougher, zip edges and bulky seams will create friction and rub the body causing itching and abrasions. The smallest irritation could cause serious problems.

3. Pick The Right Fabric
Learn the difference between synthetic and natural fibers, and the way heat is transferred through different fabrics. For excellent natural moisture-wicking and the ability keep your body dry while layering fabrics we suggest wool clothes. Your body will remain at its best temperature if it is dry. However, sweat trapped in the fabric could cause you to get cold quickly. Also, wool has amazing and natural properties that let you wear your clothing for a longer period of time without washing it... which is a benefit in the event of a long day of climbing.
