TSN GO also offers TSN subscribers bonus online coverage, with live streams of all four venues.Mike Hogan is the play-by-play voice of the Toronto Argonauts on TSN 1050 Radio and contributes articles about the team for TSN.ca. On draft day, he was granted the rare opportunity to report on this years draft from inside the Argos war room. "Youre only as good as your Canadian talent." Its a well-worn cliche among those who follow the Canadian Football League, but it happens to be true. The stakes are high in the annual selection process, so the tension at the Argonaut head office in downtown Toronto was understandably high, particularly as it became closer to the beginning of the draft. Argo general manager Jim Barker sat down with TSN.ca at 4:30 pm et, two and a half hours before the first round commenced, to discuss what could and could not be included in this article. The only restriction was that the names of any players not drafted by Toronto, or names of players involved in trade discussion would not be used. Anything else was fair game. At that point, Barker explained that a trade with Edmonton had been completed. The Boatmen had acquired the third overall pick in the draft and intended to select Anthony Coombs if he was available. Barker had acquired the No. 3 and No. 21 picks in exchange for the No. 6 and No. 15 picks, as well as veteran import offensive tackle Tony Washington. The two teams also exchanged the rights of one player each from their negotiation list. The trade would not be announced until later, but was not contingent upon Coombs being available. The Argonauts love Coombs, a running back from the University of Manitoba. One person inside the room confided that it was a unanimous feeling about Coombs, and among a collection of people within an organization leading up to a draft, thats a rarity. The dye was cast. The Argos had done what they had to do, move up in the draft and get the highest pick they could without giving up too much. They had accomplished that, but now came the toughest part of the day; the waiting. The braintrust tried its best to kill time. Coaches and members of the player personnel department had already completed a mock draft and now had little to do except wait. Coaches asked questions about scheduling that they likely already knew the answer to. Some in the office watched the St. Louis Rams news conference announcing their draft picks to the media. Small talk was the order of the afternoon, and at times it seemed forced. Everybody involved was simply in the mindset that Coombs was out there, and the lead-up to finding out if he would be available with the third overall pick was, at times, excruciating. The malaise ended at 6:20pm et when a report from TSNs Farhan Lalji surfaced, indicating that the Ottawa Redblacks had traded the first overall pick in the draft to Calgary for offensive lineman Jon Gott. That announcement would ratchet up the tension in the office even higher. Would Calgary select Coombs to complement Jon Cornish? It was a possibility, and one that would do nothing to make the following minutes move any faster. At 6:35pm et, Barker and his staff met once more behind closed doors. After a few minutes, the staff emerged, grabbed a last-minute bite to eat and prepared to enter what has been dubbed the war room. In this case, the war room was on any other day an average-sized board room. By the time all had assembled, there were 13 people sitting around a table, another handful sat just behind. It was, to say the least, somewhat crowded. A high-speed fan sat on a mini fridge in the corner of the office. On the wall at that end of the room was a television, tuned to SportsCentre in anticipation of TSNs draft coverage. A collection of photographs was on one of the side walls, featuring a collection of the organizations greatest players who had been honoured as "All Time Argos". They were staring across the room at a wall featuring just the words "Toronto Argonauts. Honouring Tradition". Along the wall at the front of the room was a giant whiteboard. This would be the centre of attention for the next three hours. Along the left side of the board were the logos of the nine CFL teams. Along the top, which ran the entire length of the wall, were the numbers one to seven, representing each round. A grid pattern was drawn up with the overall number of the pick written in the top right corner. If a pick had been traded, a magnetic logo of the team that acquired that pick was placed in the lower right-hand corner. To the left of the grid was the most important aspect of the wall, the list of available players, in the order that the Argos had ranked the prospects. Each magnet has the name, school and stats of the player, with a picture added for good measure. The player atop the list was indeed Anthony Coombs. The man with the most responsibility on this night is general manager Jim Barker. Hes no stranger to the procedure, as this is his fourth draft as the Argos GM. He was also Calgarys GM, then Senior VP of Football Operations for five years before his arrival in Toronto. Also in the room with Barker was Chris Rossetti, the 23-year old who took over the reins as the teams director of player personnel this offseason, Vince Magri, the Argos Canadian scouting coordinator, Demetri Betzios, the teams U.S. scouting coordinator, as well as head coach Scott Milanovich, the members of his coaching staff, three other members of the football operations department and a reporter from TSN.ca. A speaker phone sat in the middle of the table. The teams were connected via conference call, with the league running the show. A roll call was taken as the tension continued to build. The nervousness increased even more as Barker learned of a rumour that Calgary was talking to BC about potentially moving the first overall pick in a deal. All eyes turned to the TSN broadcast and seeing Rod Black, Duane Forde, Paul LaPolice and Chris Schultz seemed to emphasize that it was time for football. The majority were glued to the screen as the Ottawa/Calgary trade was dissected. Opinions were exchanged, albeit in subdued tones, about the ability of Gott and who came out ahead in the deal.dddddddddddd That discussion abruptly ended when CFL commissioner Mark Cohon appeared on screen and was asked about the ongoing CBA negotiations. The room was as quiet as it had been all night. Someone spoke up and asked if they should make an offer to Calgary for the top pick. It underscored how worried they were that their man may not last until the third spot. Coombs was ranked No. 5 on Fordes list of the top prospects, higher than most had him going in mock drafts, although now it didnt matter. The speculation was about to end. The CFL once again took a roll call to make sure everyone was ready to go. The procedural rules were explained and then the words that started the draft echoed through the room. "Calgary, youre on the clock". At 7:10pm et, the tension was at its highest level. Calgary was on the speaker phone and ready to make its pick. Each player had been assigned a number on a master list of draft eligible players, Coombs was number 84 on that list. The team would make its selection by giving the players number, name, position and school. John Hufnagels voice came booming through the speakers as some of the assembled Argo staff stared at the phone while others looked blankly into space. Hufnagel made the announcement that had everyone in the room holding their breath. "With the first pick of the 2014 CFL draft, the Calgary Stampeders select player number 219..." The Calgary GM didnt have to get to the name of Pierre Lavertu, the first overall pick in the draft, before a bizarre combination of excitement and relief was exhibited by those in the room. Some physically rose from their chairs, while others simply exhaled. One down, one to go. Winnipeg was now on the clock. The tension had crept back into the room. Eventually the CFL office gave the Bombers a one-minute warning. Someone evoked the name of the BC Lions again. Would they move ahead of Toronto? It was assumed the Bombers would select an offensive lineman, but if someone traded for that pick, all bets were off. There was an immediate sense of relief when the Bombers held onto the pick, and it was almost anticlimactic when the Winnipegers welcomed Matthias Goossen to the fold. There was no fist-pumping or high-fiving in Toronto, just a massive sense of relief when they realized they had their man. The trade with Edmonton had not been filed to the league. Barker didnt want to let others know he was high enough on one of the prospects to move up. The GM told director of football operations Ian Sanderson to contact the CFL to confirm the trade. It was still surprisingly quiet in the room, even though the Argos now knew they would be able to draft the player who would make or break this draft. The pick was confirmed when Chris Rossetti announced to the league something he was hoping hed have the opportunity to do. "With the third pick, the Toronto Argonauts are pleased to select player number 84, Anthony Coombs, running back, Manitoba." Smiles and laughter finally filled the room. The prospect that the football operations department firmly believed was the best pick in the draft was now a member of the Argos. A phone call was made to the newest member of the oldest pro football team to welcome him aboard. Both Jim Barker and Scott Milanovich spoke to Coombs, congratulating him and reminding him to keep working hard. Almost as soon as the pick was made, multiple teams contacted Barker to inquire if Coombs was available. It seems they were playing the same waiting game, but the Toronto GMs ability to aggressively acquire the pick he thought he needed turned out to be the difference. The discussion in the war room turned to what other teams were doing, some of the trades that were made, and what lay ahead. There was discussion about trying to move up again. At the end of the first round, there was a brief break, giving people time to grab a quick bite to eat and reflect on what had been an interesting, and very successful start to the draft. The team didnt possess a second round pick so there was some down time. Barker was inquiring to see if he could trade up. As picks were made, it was apparent that the mood in a pro draft room wasnt much different than a group of friends holding a fantasy draft. Some of the selections made by other teams were acknowledged as being very good, while others were questioned or even mocked. Another interesting aspect of the process was how good staff members were at predicting who other teams would pick. While a team would be on the clock, a staffer would mention that one of their scouts was really high on a prospect, and more often than not, that player would be selected. There was some self-congratulation based on how accurate Torontos mock draft had been. As the second round progressed, there was great surprise at some of the picks. All of a sudden, there were two names on the war room board that occupied the ninth and 10th slots, and there was now a chance that they would not be chosen before the No. 21 pick. One of the two was selected, but the other one was available when the Argos were once again informed they were on the clock. Jaskaran Dhillon, an aggressive offensive lineman from UBC, was one of three players Barker mentioned in the pre-draft interview as being someone the team would love to obtain. His name was in the 10th spot on the teams prospect list. Because they didnt have a second round pick, the Argos had to wait an hour and 23 minutes to make their second selection in the draft. They felt it was worth it. Six more players would be chosen by the Argos, including Eric Black, the younger brother of Matt Black, the teams starting safety. At 9:52pm et, the Argos night was over, and in their eyes, just as it likely was in eight other war rooms across the league, the night was a success. The room cleared out quickly, most had flights to catch the next morning to spend two more weeks with their families before returning to Toronto to prepare for training camp. They will soon see what these eight newest Argos look like when competing against pros. INDIANAPOLIS -- Eight straight wins isnt enough for the perfect Pacers. They have far bigger plans. The NBAs last unbeaten team remained undaunted Monday night, getting 23 points from Paul George and the first triple double of Lance Stephensons career to run past Memphis 95-79 and complete a brutal five-game in seven-day stretch with a sweep. Indiana extended its franchise-best start to 8-0, becoming the seventh team to achieve the feat since 2000. "Everything were shooting for is attainable, but weve got a long way to go, a lot of work to do," coach Frank Vogel said. "It was probably our most complete game." The Pacers made no secret of this seasons plan -- dethroning two-time defending NBA champion Miami. The best way to do that, they figured, was earning the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and so far, nobody has been able to touch Indiana. The Pacers already have a 3 1/2-game lead over Miami and Atlanta in the East. Indiana is showing no sign of slowing down, either. Rather than look fatigued after back-to-back wins last Tuesday and Wednesday and two more back-to-back wins Friday and Saturday, something Vogel said he had never been part of previously, the Pacers appeared to get stronger Monday. They again dominated the glass, outrebounding Memphis 30-15 in the first half and finishing with a 45-32 advantage. They again relied on suffocating defence, which held Memphis (3-4) to a season-low point total and nearly 20 points below its season scoring average (98.5). And again they were content to share the honours. George scored seven of his game-high points total during a key 9-3 stretch to close out the third quarter. That gave Indiana a 72-55 lead. Stephenson, who is playing the best basketball of his career, finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, a career-high 12 assists and only one turnover. Roy Hibbert added five more blocks to his league-leading total (35), George Hill finished with 13 points in his third game back from a hip injury and Luis Scola added 12 points off the bench. Indiana could be making things even tougher for opponents soon, too. Vogel said before the game that former All-Star Danny Granger, who once led the Pacers in scoring for five straight seasons, will begin working out Tuesday and could return to practice as soon as Wednesday. Vogel did not say when Granger would return to the rotation. Granger has not played this season because of a strained left calf. For now, though, fans seem content with the way things are going. During the final minutes, they even serenaded Pacers players with chants of "un-de-feat-ed." But the Pacers arent content with that. "We are not looking at this 8-0 start," said George, the NBAs Most Improved Player last season. "We want to enjoy it, but we must let our strengths continue to lead us to victory. Everybody helps, everybody is doing their job." For Memphis, it was a rough night. Marc Gasol , who showed his frustration at times during the second half, finished with 15 points and six rebounds. The only other Memphis players to reach double-figures were two guys with Hoosier State ties -- Zach Randolph had 12 and Mike Conley added 11. The Grizzlies shot just 41.3 per cent from the field and were only 6 of 19 from 3-point range, and after a 15-3 run put Memphis in an 80-55 deficit just 83 seconds into the fourth quarter, the Grizzlies never had a chance. "Theyre the best defensive team in this league, they really compress the paint, it was hard for any of us guards to get in there and make anything happen," Conley said. "Theyve got a lot of length, theyve got great guards that play great D and they made us take contested shots." Indiana didnt leave anything in doubt Monday. The Pacers jumped to a 13-8 lead in the opening minutes, scored the final six points of the first quarter to make it 23-16 and then methodically pulled away in the second. Though Memphis closed to 46-39 at halftime, the Pacers opened the second half on a 7-2 run to rebuild a 12-point lead and put it away with the spurt spurred by George and Stephenson that eventually made it 80-55. "Everybodys on the same page, everybodys playing together and everybodys playing smart," Stephenson said. "When we play like that, no one can stop us." Indiana now gets a three-day break before playing another back-to-back -- hosting Milwaukee on Friday and visiting Chicago on Saturday. Notes: Indiana led at halftime for only the second time this season. ... Memphis continued its trend, winning all of its even-numbered games and losing all of its odd-numbered games. ... The Pacers have won the last three in this series and are now 14-3 all-time against the Grizzlies in Indy. ... Growing up in Iowa, his passion for sports was fueled by the player or the team that was not big enough, not strong enough, not good enough to win. He had reason to feel that way at Kapalua for the Tournament of Champions, where he started the final round two shots behind on a course that is suited for power players. It proved to be the perfect recipe for another victory. Johnson didnt blast his way around the Plantation Course as much as he picked it apart, mostly with his irons, especially with his putter. He tied for the lead with an approach from 195 yards into 4 feet for birdie on No. 7. He took the outright lead with a wedge into 2 feet on No. 12. And he pulled away from Jordan Spieth, Jason Dufner, Kevin Streelman and everyone else with three straight birdies for a 7-under 66. "Hit some quality shots that certainly helped," he said. "But I think quality putts helped even more." Johnson started a new year the same way he ended the last one -- by winning. Unlike a month ago in California, when he holed out from the drop zone on the last hole and beat Tiger Woods in a playoff, Johnson didnt doing anything spectacular. He didnt need to. Johnson missed only one fairway. He missed only two greens. He picked his spots and played to his strengths, went bogey-free and matched the best round of the day. That kind of golf wins anywhere. And Johnson seems to be winning a lot lately. Not only was it his 11th career win on the PGA Tour, it was his third win worldwide in his last six starts. It started with the BMW Championship outside Chicago, which made him eligible for this winners-only tournament on the west end of Maui. Dating to his rookie season in 2004, only Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh have more PGA Tour victories. David or Goliath? "I still have that vision," Johnson said of the underdog role, even though the numbers dont back that up. Johnson will say his last three wins were against small fields -- 70 players in the BMW Championship, 18 players in the World Challenge, 30 players at Kapalua. He also faced strong ffields at a playoff event, a holiday event with 18 of the top 30 in the world, and a winners-only gathering Hawaii.dddddddddddd "Ive put myself in a place that is a little foreign to me," he said. "Some of the numbers, Im not exactly comfortable with -- top 10 in the world, that kind of thing. But Im also a realist. I know this game at some point could beat me up again. So Ive got to keep doing what Im doing, try to keep things very simple." Spieth was playing in the final group for the first time, and he held up beautifully. He made birdie on both par 5s on the front nine to take a one-shot lead, and kept his goal of making three birdies on the back nine. He just got started too late and ran out of holes. And three pars on the three easiest holes on the back nine -- 14, 15 and 16 -- didnt help. Spieth didnt trust his read on two short putts at the 14th and 16th, and he came up just short on the par-5 15th. "Yes!" he said, when the ball took off his hybrid like a rocket, headed for the front portion of the green. "Youve got to be kidding me," he said when he saw the ball retreat down a slope. He didnt connect properly on a delicate pitch, and the ball came back down the slope. Spieth had to scramble for par. Three shots behind, he closed with two birdies for a 70 to finish one shot behind. Streelman had a 67 and tied for third with Webb Simpson, who had a 70. Five players had a share of the lead at one point, which included Dustin Johnson early and Jason Dufner late. Dustin Johnson, tied for the 54-hole lead with Spieth and Simpson, made three bogeys before he recorded a birdie. He chipped poorly and shot 73. Dufners rally was undone by a three-putt par on the 15th, and then a shot in to the hazard on the 17th that ended his hopes for good. The last man standing was Zach Johnson, a position with which he is becoming familiar. He tried to imagine what he would have said if told that going into his 11th season on the PGA Tour, he already would have 12 victories worldwide, a top-10 ranking and golf bags from having played on six national teams. "It would have been more than I thought," Johnson said, still seeing himself as David. DeAngelo Hall has signed his four-year contract to remain with the Washington Redskins. The Redskins announced the deal Wednesday, a day after the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback agreed to terms. A person familiar with the negotiations says the contract is worth between $4 million and $5 million per year. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce the financial details. Hall took a pay cut last year to help get the Redskins under the salary cap. He led the team with four interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. He also returned a fumble for a score. Hall told Comcast SportsNet: "I came back, sacrificed myself for the team, and its nice to be rewarded for that." Jaguars Jerseys . The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews has about 2,400 members from around the world and dates to 1754. The clubhouse is among the most famous buildings in golf, overlooking the Old Course at St. Andrews. Pressure has been building in recent years on the R&A to change its men-only policy, especially after Augusta National Golf Club announced in August 2012 that it was inviting two women to join -- former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore. The British Open last year was held at Muirfield, one of three links courses on the Open rotation that does not allow female memberss.dddddddddddd "This is welcome news from the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and I urge its members to follow their committees recommendations and vote yes for women members," British sports minister Helen Grant said in a statement. "It would mark a step in the right direction for the sport and I would hope encourage the remaining golf clubs that still have anachronistic single-sex member policies to follow suit." It was unclear how a favourable vote would affect whether golf clubs that host the Open would change their policies. The next Open at a male-only club is in 2016 at Royal Troon. The R&A governs golf everywhere in the world except for the United States and Mexico. It also organizes the British Open and other championships. However, it shifted responsibility for the Open and administering the Rules of Golf to a separate entity in 2004 known as The R&A. Charlottesville, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Brogdon scored 16 points to lead No. 2 Virginia in a 65-42 win over Clemson on Tuesday. Justin Anderson scored 15 points as the only other player in double figures for the Cavs (16-0, 4-0 ACC), who won the opening four ACC games on their slate for the first time since 1994-95. I thought we guarded and rebounded pretty well, Cavs coach Tony Bennett said. Offensively, we were rotating the ball. Jaron Blossomgame posted nine points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (9-7, 1-3). Virginia used its defense to grab an early lead, but Blossomgames jumper helped the Tigers to a 13-12 advantage with just over 11 minutes to play in the opening half. The Cavs answered with seven straight points, holding Clemson without a point over a 6:45 span from when it took the lead. They couldnt really gain much more separation, however, taking a 25-19 lead at the half. The Tigers made over 47 percent of their shots in the opening half, but committed eight turnovers. They played great in the second half, Clemson coach Brad Brownell said of Virginia. I thought we played well in the first half. We probably should have had the lead more often. Virginia opened up its halftime lead by scoring the first nine points of the second. Brogdon opened and closed the spurt with baskets, the last of which stretching the Cavs margin to 34-19. Darion Atkinss three-point play pushed the margin to a game-high 30 late in the second as Virginia cruised to the finish. Game Notes Virginia has won 20 straight at home and 23 against unranked opponents ... The Cavs have won five straight at home over Clemson ... RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Clarence Seedorf said Tuesday he will take over as the new coach at AC Milan, replacing Massimiliano Allegri who was fired the day before. Seedorf made the announcement at Brazilian club Botafogo, where he has been playing. "The next step for me is as the coach of Milan," Seedorf told reporters. AC Milan told The Associated Press that the clubs former midfielder will sign a contract, but that the formalities would follow his arrival in Italy on Thursday. The 37-year-old Dutchman won the Champions League twice with AC Milan, and also won Europes top club title with Ajax and Real Madrid. AC Milan has been struggling in Serie A, squandering a two-goal lead in a 4-3 loss on Sunday against Sassuolo. The club is 11th in the standings and six points clear of the relegation zone. "The decision was made during the day, but the evening was difficult," Seedorf said. "I told my daughters at dinner, and it was relaxed. There were no cons. There are no cons. There are only pros at this moment." In Italy, AC Milan spokesman Riccardo Coli told the AP that Seedorf "will sign and once he signs then well decide when the presentation will be." Seedorf has no formal coaching experience and will rely on his popularity and respect among fellow players to guide him at the beginning. "Unfortunately, the life of a player is not forever," he said. Asked about the biggest challenge, he replied: "The most difficult thing is always adjusting. Here and there, people and cultures are different; the cultures of the football, of the clubs." Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti gave his former player a strong endorsement. "I coached him," Ancelotti said. "Hes got a strong personality and he will be capable of handling this new experience. He knows the club well and I think Milan has taken this decision in the same manner as it has with (Arrigo) Sacchi or (Fabio) Capello. Its always turned out well for them. TORONTO - By Monday morning - hours after an increasingly perilous skid hit five - more than a few members of the wobbling Maple Leafs were on the third floor of the Air Canada Centre, playing some basketball on the practice court of the neighbouring Toronto Raptors. "I think some guys just wanted to go shoot some hoops and loosen up," said captain Dion Phaneuf on a rest day for most of his teammates. The Leafs are doing what they can to loosen up and shake the ills of a losing streak that has them tumbling closer and closer to another late season collapse and early spring exit. In fine position as recently as two weeks ago - second in the Atlantic following a statement win in L.A. - they are now simply clinging to the final wild card position in the East with a grueling test against St. Louis ahead on Tuesday night. "No ones happy with whats gone on," said Phaneuf, "but its reality. We have got to come [Tuesday] prepared and ready to go." Just as the highs of a win streak are exaggerated so too are the lows of a losing slide. Toronto has lost five straight, all close games and all with a series of consistent and untimely trends. First has been the sluggish starts and inability to score the games first goal. The Leafs have a .714 winning percentage this season when they score first, a .289 mark when they dont. Theyve given up that valued first goal in seven straight games, falling behind by two or more in five of the seven (six losses). And while theyve improbably rallied to tie or pull within one in each of the five losses - even leading briefly against Tampa - the uphill climb has ultimately proven too steep to overcome. "The one issue for us, more than anything, is that we seem to have been putting ourselves in the position of clawing back into games," head coach Randy Carlyle observed. "And you wont have success if you continually have to do that." "Weve played from behind too often," Phaneuf concurred. "When we have been coming from behind thats when weve been attacking more than from the start. When you do get down you play with more desperation. We have to find a way to play with that desperation right from the get-go." Not helping matters, though certainly not the singular point of blame, has been the goaltending. His confidence simply sunk at this point, James Reimer has not provided anywhere near the top-tier caliber of goaltending that Jonathan Bernier delivered before his injury, the kind of elite nightly theatrics the defensively-inept Leafs require to win. Consider Berniers 8-2-2 record and .947 save percentage this season when facing 40 shots as reminders of that ability to perform under heavy strain. Reimer, meanwhile, has a disastrous .871 save percentage in five starts in place of Bernier. Nursing the first groin injury of his career, Bernier was on the ice again Monday afternoon, but wasnt sure if hed be available to return against the Blues. "It hurts to see your team lose," he said, "but at the same time its one of those injuries [where] youve got to take time. Dont want to rush and then youre out for another four or five games after." Bernier said his readiness would be determined by the teams medical staff, but said hed know for himself when he was able to make "a split save or that I can make that stretch save and not think about it I guess." Update: Bernier was the projected starter on Tuesday morning. Without him, Carlyle would be faced with difficult question in goal for a tough tilt against the best team in the West. Start Reimer for the sixth consecutive game despite his struggles or hand the net to Drew MacIntyre, the 30-year-old who has yet to start an NHL game. While perhaps difficult to envision Carlyle turning back to Reimer yet again, consider that under similarly challenging circumstance - two sets of back-to-backs in the past week - he went with the struggling former no. 1 each and every time. The tried and tested product, however unstable at the moment, may be more appealing than the unknown. Reimer was pulled for MacIntyre in the teams fifth straight loss on Sunday night. "What happened last game, surely you take that into consideration, but the most important thing is that the individual we choose to represent us at that position tomorrow night we feel confident he can get the job done," said Carlyle. Beyond goaltending are the series of game-changing mistakes and breakdowns that have often left Reimer on an island all his own, left to sink or swim in an unforgiving crease. Bernier bailed out those mistakes more often than not. Reimer has not. There was Troy Brouwer left all by his lonesome in the slot during the first loss in Washington. There were two Gustav Nyquist breakaway goals in Detroit. It was three times open for Steven Stamkos in Toronto. There was the Phil Kessel neutral zone giveaway which sprung Max Pacioretty against Montreal, a Rene Bourque breakaway coming shortly after. And most recently, a bad line change and pinch that sparked an odd-man rush goal from Damien Brunner and then later another breakaway, this time from Patrik Elias. "What we have to do is we have to limit our mistakes," said Carlyle. "Were making too many of them that are costing us in the hockey games." Additionally, the Leafs have been unable to find much offence beyond their top line. Without the likes of Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk, and Tyler Bozak scoring two or three a night, theyve simply not produced enough to overshadow other faults as was often the case in victories earlier this season. "Theres still lots of hockey to be played," Phaneuf said. "Theres lots of points that are available for us. We obviously are not happy about what has happened, but whats happened has happened. Theres no going back to yesterday or three days ago or a week ago. Right now our focus is on St. Louis and coming out and playing the way that we can. "Weve slid far enough. Weve got to grab some traction here and regroup with a big win." Ronnie Harrison Jaguars Jersey . Harden scored a season-high 44 points to lead the Rockets in a 113-109 decision over the Sacramento Kings. Harden, who scored 34 points in a loss to Golden State on Wednesday, sent the game to overtime with a deep 3-pointer, then scored the first 10 Houston points in the extra session. Trevor Ariza and Patrick Beverley each netted 15 points and Donatas Motiejunas added 14 points for Houston, which has won five of its last six. Darren Collison had 24 points with seven assists and Ben McLemore tallied 21 points for the Kings. Harden fueled the Rockets comeback in regulation and continued in the extra session as he opened with seven straight points to give the Rockets a 102-95 lead with 3 1/2 minutes to play. The Houston offense ran through Harden in the overtime period. He slashed through the lane for a layup following a free throw from Jason Thompson, then split a pair of free throws to extend the lead to nine. Rudy Gay trimmed the deficit to six with a 3-pointer, but Harden drove on two defenders and skipped a pass over to Beverley, who nailed a corner 3 with 45.3 seconds left. Beverley missed 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch that allowed the Kings to hang around as Nik Stauskas trey made it a three-point game. Collison buried a 3 following a pair of free throws from Jason Terry, but Harden closed his evening with two free throws to account for the final margin. Harden tied the game at 88-88 with a tough dunk througgh traffic with 2 1/2 minutes left.dddddddddddd Each team traded a basket before Gay drove and kicked out to an open Derrick Williams, who hit a 3-pointer to make it a 93-90 game. Motiejunas was whistled for his sixth foul at the other end, which allowed Thompson to make a pair of free throws and stretch it to a two-possession game. Houston trailed by three when Harden tossed up a high-arching trey that hit nothing but cotton to tie the game at 95-95 with 20.5 seconds on the clock. Gays jumper from just inside the arc rattled out on Sacramentos final chance in regulation. The Rockets grabbed the rebound and called a timeout with under a second left, but Hardens final effort was long. Sacramento led 46-36 at the half. Houston opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run to close the gap to 49-46 just 2 1/2 minutes in. Later in the quarter, Beverley nailed a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to two, 55-53, then the Kings ripped off 10 straight as a McLemore dunk off a feed from Collison highlighted the surge. Harden scored the final four points of the third to cut it to 69-61 entering the fourth. Game Notes Houston has won four straight over the Kings ... Sacramento has lost two straight overall ... Williams scored 17 points off the bench in the setback ... Joey Dorsey had a career-high five steals in the win ... Houston went 15- of-44 from beyond the arc ... The Rockets scored 27 points off turnovers, while the Kings netted 20 off turnovers ... Thompson finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds for Sacramento. Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry, In the third period of Game 6 between the Bruins and Canadiens, Boston came within millimetres of getting one past Carey Price. Zdeno Charas shot from the point bounced off Carey Price and into the air before dropping right in the crease. David Desharnais then swept it away with his glove, but should a penalty shot have been called??? David KrastBoston David: The answer to your question is found in Rule 67 - handling the puck. Generally speaking anytime a player places his hand over the puck while it is on the ice in order to conceal if from or prevent an opponent from playing the puck, a minor penalty shall be assessed for "closing his hand on the puck". When this is done in his teams goal crease area, a penalty shot shall be assessed. More specifically to David Desharnais handling of the puck as it was about to cross the goal line following the shot by Zdeno Chara, rule 67.4 states; if a defending player, except a goalkeeper, while play is in progress, falls on the puck, holds the puck, picks up the puck, or gathers the puck into his body or hands from the ice in the goal crease area, the play shall be stopped immediately and a penalty shot shall be awarded to the non-offending team. In the application of this rule a player is allowed to bat, drag, push or sweep the puck clear of the goal crease with an oppen palm or closed fist so long as this action does not cover the puck in any manner.dddddddddddd. David Desharnais legally handled the puck in the goal crease area when he dove and contacted the side portion of the puck with a closed glove (tight fist versus open palm on top of the puck) and bunted/dragged the puck with a swift, forceful motion from narrowly crossing the line. This legal action by Desharnais propelled the puck away from the goal line toward and under Carey Price to stop play. It is important to note David, that had the puck had come to rest and been covered under the body of Desharnais instead of Price, a penalty shot would have resulted. It was a tremendous defensive play by the Montreal forward to prevent a sure goal through the legal use of his hand on the puck inside the goal crease. Referee Kelly Sutherland also did an outstanding job to attack the net along the goal line as this play developed and then to wave off a potential goal and penalty shot from his final location directly behind the net. As a result of Sutherlands attack angle and close finish behind the net, the referee was able to clearly determine that the puck had not crossed the goal line nor had Desharnais covered the puck with his hand or body. On this crucial play inside the goal crease, referee Sutherland demonstrated excellent visual awareness to read the play and then quickly move his feet to gain the optimum position to render the correct call. Game 7 back in Boston should be a real dandy. EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers found their resolve in the third period on Sunday. Jordan Eberle had a pair of goals as the Oilers snapped a four-game losing skid by holding on for a 5-3 upset win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. After staking themselves to a 3-1 lead after the first period, the Oilers started to fall apart in the second, allowing the Lightning to tie the game 3-3. "We were turning pucks over in our own end, it was the same old story with this team," Eberle said. "But as soon as they tied it, we found a way to get back to playing the way that got us the lead in the first place. Thats what won us the game." Taylor Hall, Luke Gazdic and Boyd Gordon also scored for the Oilers (14-26-5), who have won just three of their last 13 games. Edmonton, which has the second-worst record in the NHL, avoided its fourth five-game losing streak of the season. "There were certainly some shifts in the second period where we didnt play well, but for the most part our effort was good tonight," Hall said. "Our execution was good. There have been a lot of times this season where we have gone into a third period tied or in a close game and we just havent really played the way we should. Tonight was a different story. It was nice to see, especially against a team that is as good and as high in the standings as Tampa." It was the Oilers first win against a team above the playoff cutline in a calendar month. "We need to spin this into a positive," Gordon said. "Hopefully we can get things turned around here and start playing some winning hockey." Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman and Valtteri Flippula replied for the Lightning (25-13-4), who saw a five-game winning streak on the road come to and end. "I thought we owned that second period and we had a bad break for us on the fourth goal and then a good play by them on the fifth one," Hedman said. "Thats not the way we wanted to come out of this. We were carrying the momentum going into the third. Its obviously frustrating that we didnt play better in the third." Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop left the game with an undisclosed injury in the first half, something head coach Jon Cooper did little to explain after the game. "I have no idea," said Cooper when asked of Bishops status. "I dont ask, so I can look you in the eye and say I dont know, so I dont know. "We dont know, its hard to speculate. I dont know what the injury is, but I dont think its going to be major serious. I hope not anyway. But if it is, then (Anders Lindback) is a proven goaltender in the league and hell be fine, lets make that determination when we find out whats wrong with him. I think its way too early to speculate on whats going on." Tampa Bay started the scoring with a power-play goal less than three minutes into the game as Matthew Carle made a cross-ice pass to Kucherov at the left face-off dot. Kucherov beat Oilers starter Ilya Bryzgalov with a quick shot glove-side. Edmonton responded a minute-and-a-half later, however, as a stick got caught in the skates of Martin St. Louis in front of the Tampa net before Eberle could fish it out and lift his 13th of the season past Bishop. Bishop left the game after the play with what originally looked like an equipment problem. Lindback came in as his replacement, just as Alex Killorn took a double minor for high-sticking. Edmonton went up 2-1 on their second shot of the game, just past the six minute mark as an Eberle shot pinballed in front and was inadvertently deflected past Lindback by defender Sami Salo on a power play. It was Eberles second goal in less than two minutes after only scoring one in his previous 11 games. The Oilers took a two-goal lead with five minutes left in the first period as Gazdic tipped the puck past Lindback off a point shot from Justin Schultz. The Lightning started to rally in the second period and were rewarded for it just under nine minutes in as a stolen puck at the Oilers blue-line eventually led to a long screened-shot goal by Hedman. Tampa Bay tied it 3-3 with 5:35 remaining in the second period as Filppula hooked off the half boards and picked the bottom corner of the net with a quick wrist shot for this 16th goal of the season. Lindback kept the Oilers from regaining any momentum on a late second period power play, making big stops on Eberle and Gordon to keep it 3-3 after 40 minutes. Edmonton moved back in front eight minutes into the third period as Gordon did a good job to fight off a defender and swat home the rebound from his own backhand shot in tight. The Oilers went up 5-3 just past the mid-mark with the teams playing four aside as Hall made a perfect redirection of an Andrew Ference point shot for his 16th goal and team-leading 41st point of the season. Both teams return to the ice on Tuesday as the Lightning finish a four-game trip in Winnipeg and the Oilers play host to the St. Louis Blues.
