SANDY, Utah - In the waning moments of the U.S. womens rout of Mexico, the crowd behind Hope Solos goal began chanting her name. They knew she was on the verge of making history. With the 8-0 U.S. victory, Solo collected her record 72nd shutout with the national team. "The best part about it is the best is yet to come," she told cheering fans when the milestone was announced at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night. She passed Briana Scurry (1994-2008) on the career list. Solo has played in 154 international matches. "Its been a long journey. A lot of tears, a lot of blood, a lot of sweat. Some heartaches, Some incredible moments," she said. "Its crazy to think its been close to 15 years." Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach each scored twice for the United States, which improved to 28-1-1 against Mexico and extended the womens winning streak to 86 straight games on American soil. Sydney Leroux, Heather OReilly and Whitney Engen also scored. The U.S. will host Mexico again on Thursday night in Rochester, New York. Both teams are training for Octobers championship of soccers North and Central American and Caribbean region, which serves as qualifying for the Womens World Cup next year in Canada. The United States and Mexico are in opposite groups for the championships, which will be played in four U.S. cities with the final scheduled for Oct. 26 at PPL Park in Pennsylvania. The United States went up 1-0 in the 12th minute on Mexico captain Alina Garciamendezs own goal. Garciamendez was trying to slow the hard-charging Wambach and stumbled, knocking the ball over goalkeeper Cecilia Santiagos head. Wambach made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, and Morgan scored in the 36th minute, dribbling the ball off her chest and over Santiago into the goal. Santiago threw her hands up in frustration following the play. Wambach added her second goal in the 41st minute off a feed from Morgan. Morgans second goal came in the 56th minute. Less than two minutes later, Engen scored on a header to put the United States up 6-0. Morgan needs just two more goals to become the 10th player in the teams history to reach 50. "I thought we had a lot of opportunities and I thought we put away a lot. Obviously there were a couple that were close, a couple unlucky shots, but overall I think everyone was really happy with the result tonight," Morgan said. "And just the fact that we didnt really drop our level too much, obviously there was waves her and there, but I thought overall we set the tempo." Morgan made her international debut at Rio Tinto, the home of Major League Soccers Real Salt Lake, back in 2010 — a game that was dubbed the Snow Clasico because it was played in a frigid snowstorm. The United States won that one 1-0 and players made snow angels on the sidelines. Mexicos lone victory over the United States came during qualifying for the 2010 World Cup. Mexico won the semifinal 2-1, forcing the U.S. into the third-place match and then a two-game playoff against Italy for a World Cup spot. The last time the two teams met was in Washington D.C. last September. Leroux had four goals in a 7-0 shutout. Ranked No. 1 for the past five years, the U.S. has been in Salt Lake this past week for its first extended training camp under coach Jill Ellis, who took over on an interim basis when Tom Sermanni was fired in April, and then got the job going forward in May. Ellis is charged with cutting her roster to 20 players for the CONCACAF championship. Ellis praised Solo for her accomplishment. "I tip my hat. Im phenomenally proud of her," Ellis said. "Her teammates worked hard for her to make sure Mexico had lots to do on the other end. Really proud of her. Very deserving." Solo was already thinking ahead. "I still feel young, I still feel good, I still feel healthy," she said. "And hopefully the best part of the journey is yet to come. Hopefully next summer in Canada." Mexico is ranked No. 25 in the world.
Phil Jones Jersey . The roster changes have been constant and continuous since late last year, but even with their 46-man roster set for the start of the season, the banged-up Bombers will be kicking off Week 1 with a handful of fresh faces and back-ups in the starting lineup.

Canada dropped the bronze medal game to Russia by a score of 2-1 on Sunday, marking the first time it has failed to win a medal in back-to-back tournaments since the Program of Excellences inception in 1982. Russia stormed out to an early 2-0 lead over Canada on Sunday thanks to first period goals from Mikhail Grigorenko and Eduard Gimatov. It would provide the basis for a lead Russia would never surrender. Canada would get on the board mid-way through the third with defenceman Josh Morrissey giving the Canadian team some life, but it would not be enough as the Russians would beat Canada to claim bronze for a second straight year. Andrei Vasilevski turned away 28 of the 29 shots Canada threw at him on Sunday, improving his all-time World Junior record to 11-4 over the course of three tournaments. He was named Russias Player of the Game. Aaron Ekblad was named Canadas Player of the Game. Canadian goalkeeper Zach Fucale took over as starter after Canadas preliminary round loss to the Czech Republic and stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced in the semifinal. The Montreal Canadiens draft pick expressed disappointment with the result despite his strong play. "This is absolutely not about me," he told TSN in a post-game interview. "This is just about the team winning and we came here for a reason and we didnt get it done." Canada has now gone five tournaments without bringing home World Junior gold. Their last gold came in 2009 when they claimed their fifth consecutive tournament, winning on home ice in Ottawa. The loss sets Canada up for a tough group at the 2015 World Juniors that will be hosted in Toronto and Montreal. With the fourth-place finish, Canada is set to once again be drawn with the United States. They will also be joined by defending gold medalists Finland as well as Slovakia and Germany. "For guys coming back next year its good motivation," said forward Curtis Lazar, who finished third in team scoring with three goals and four assists in seven games. "Its Canada, yoou want to get back on top.dddddddddddd Its a tough tournament to win, thats the bottom line," Lazar added. This Canadian team has 11 players that would be eligible to play in next years tournament, including Lazar. However, 17-year-olds Sam Reinhart and Aaron Ekblad are projected to go first and second in the 2014 NHL Draft and their availability for next years team would be questionable. It was a tough tournament for Canada, as the team surrendered the first goal in all but one of their games. But the bronze medal game saw a better overall effort for Canada than the one they put forth in the semifinal loss to Finland. "In this particular game you could make a case that Team Canada deserved a better fate but in the bigger picture of where they finished in the tournament I dont think you could say they deserved anything more than what they got, which is a fourth-place finish," TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie said. "In a difficult game to play, they had more emotion, they had more commitment and more chances to score and generated a lot more than they did in the semifinals against Finland, where they generated only three shots in the third period," McKenzie added. The tournament also saw head coach Brent Sutters perfect World Junior record shattered after Canada lost its preliminary round game to the Czech Republic 5-4 in a shootout. Sutter had gone 6-0 and won gold in both his previous coaching tenures in the 2005 tournament in Vancouver and Kelowna and the 2006 tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota. McKenzie believes Canadas troubles may have less to do with Canadas on-ice personnel and more to do with the mental approach the team takes to the high-profile competition, especially the knockout games. "Its more along the lines of [being] terrified to lose than [they] are determined to win," McKenzie observed of three years worth of semifinal defeats. Fucale would also acknowledge the weight of high expectations after the defeat. "Here its all about results," said the 18-year-old. "Canada expects more, we expect more from ourselves and you know we didnt get it done."
