Along with other volunteers from the town, Maximoff and Pietro underwent a series of tests conducted by List and Wolfgang von Strucker, where they were exposed to energy from the Scepter, which had fatal effects on all the other volunteers. During the chaos of the battle, Maximoff managed to knock Captain America back with her powers and began "hexing" the minds of Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America.
